40th anniversary of Only Fools and Horses today
Interesting article on the beeb about some long lost archive footagehttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-58419852
My favourite episode has to be To Hull and Back, but there's so many classics it's hard too choose between them.
Sadly a lot of the original cast are no longer with us, but the 4 principal actors in the roles of Del Boy, Rodney, Cassandra and Racquel are still happily with us, as are the "Boycie" and Marlene protagonists.
I know most people vote Del Boy falling through the bar as their favourite scene, but on reflection I'll opt for when the chandelier smashes, and they only had 1 take to get that scene perfect for obvious reasons.

Re: 40th anniversary of Only Fools and Horses today
Love Only Fools and will happily sit through repeat after repeat on Gold.
I turned up to work one morning, around 20 years ago to find the car park full of TV production vehicles. Yorkshire TV were using it as a location to film A Touch of Frost. We were basically quarantined indoors as the filming was all outside but I had to walk back and forth to the gates to collect deliveries. At one point David Jason was ******* himself at me as I struggled to carry a stack of boxes, delivery note tucker under my chin. He hung around after they had finished filming and chatted with all the staff; thoroughly nice bloke. I probably still have a signed photo somewhere.

Re: 40th anniversary of Only Fools and Horses today
My favourite comedy show of all time, I have seen each episode countless times but still laugh each time I watch it.
Some great moments throughout the whole series, Del asking Rodney about the car phone before hand gliding a particular favourite. But my favourite has to be when Rodney has left Casandra and asked a girl out to the pictures and Del wants to give "Rodders" an ear full about it and Uncle Albert gasping in all the wrong places

Batman and robin come running thru the fog… howling at that, and as funny as the fall thru the bar was, it’s the chandelier for me.

So many classic episodes to choose from, but Uncle Albert's mistimed 'gasps' still raise a chuckle.
How could one programme have so many memorable characters?
I'll have to get the boxset out for viewing tonight.

It's so simple and blindingly obvious, but the chandelier clip had me in hysterics.
Re: 40th anniversary of Only Fools and Horses today
Jolly Boys Outing, Mother Natures Son and Chain Gang are my personal faves. Timeless comedy.
Re: 40th anniversary of Only Fools and Horses today
Like the OP, I don't rate him falling through the bar as the funniest. The chandelier smashing is funnier, and a very funny short scene is Trigger's broom.

The switch to 50 minute episodes took the quality up a notch. Not sure why it should make such a difference when it was so good to start with.claretburns wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 4:36 pmSeason 6 is just the most perfect TV show season you can get, each episode is brilliant!

It would be cancelled in todays woke culture, which is why you will never see it on the BBC again.

The one with the blow up dolls from “ dirty barry’s” sex shop . Just so funny the episode and the black blow up doll as the guy comes out the flats and says “ good evening ladies “ is one of my funniest ever comedy moments .

Re: 40th anniversary of Only Fools and Horses today
Fantastic show, great casting and acting and underneath it all the genius writing of the late John Sullivan. So many great moments. The classics have been covered already but a couple of others ones I like.
Del is speaking to the receptionist at the dentist.
What do you want you moron? she asks Del
A previously out of shot Trigger appears and answers just a filling this time.
And Del gets a microwave and is trying to explain it to Grandad. I thought it was strange says grandad, I was trying to watch Dukes of Hazzard

“Wanted” was my favourite episode.
I seem to be one of few that thought the earlier years were the better episodes.
Damien was awful when they introduced him, particularly in the final few episodes.

Chandelier funniest moment, but the cast, set, script settings etc was perfect.

I saw a Transit van this morning which had 'Trotters Independent Trading Co on the side and a picture of the famous Reliant Robin. Indeed it seems you can get stickers for your Reliant Robin and hire one for weddings according to the internet.

Very funny, classic tv comedy. I always loved how all of they had their own personalities and this was done brilliantly when they were in the Nags Head.
Wonderful acting and exceptional comedy writing.

Brilliant programme, probably my favourite of all time.
The chandelier, Peckham Spring, Uncle Albert confusing Maxwell House for Bisto, “I don’t care if you’re related to the Surrey Trotters, the Berkshire Trotters or the Harlem bloody Globetrotters” etc. etc.
So well written and brilliantly acted.

Agree with others who say they can watch it over and over. For me the familiarity of the programme is comforting. The number of times I’ll go into the kitchen on a Saturday night to cook dinner and scroll through the channels past all the mindless guff and end up on Gold or Dave just for some familiar background noise with OFAH. It’s a fantastic and timeless show.

The pregnant German au pair in the pub with Uncle Albert speaking German. Vhat ist your name?
And then Rodders having to translate Del Boy's lingo to the German.
If you have a favourite scene or episode though, I would suggest that you haven't seen them all.
Absolute classic comedy.

Re: 40th anniversary of Only Fools and Horses today
So many favourite moments but a couple of quotes spring to mind:
Rodney: What's wrong with going out with a women of 40?
Del: Nothing, nothing at all if you happen to be 50! Blimey she's even too old for me.
Grandad: Well, I'd have to think twice.
and
Trigger: If it's a girl they're gonna name it Sigourney, after the actress. And if it's a boy they're gonna name him Rodney, after Dave.

I was watching one the other week and I was sniggering for about 10 minutes after the line was delivered:
Rodney: What am I having for dinner grandad?
Grandad: Do you like haddock pie Del Boy?
De Boy: No I do not!
Grandad: You’re on haddock pie Rodney
A bit later in the episode Rodney is on the phone trying to get the doctor to come out and visit Grandad after his legs are playing up
Rodney: He can’t come Del, he’s about to go out for dinner with his wife
Del: Well tell him he can have dinner here
Rodney: Yeah, he could have my haddock pie!

It was also on BBC1 live last Saturday night. However, it was so offensive to us sensitive types that when they edited it, they were only left with the chandelier falling scene, which they looped for the full 30 minutes. And at the end there was helpline for anyone affected by the issues in the programme.
