I was told last night that he was taken ill after the Arsenal game last Saturday and was driven to the hospital at Blackburn by another supporter.

Well done to whoever took him, and best wishes to Spike for a full and speedy recovery.

My mate rang his wife and she came with a view to take me Blackburn services and get a lift home from there thinking it wasn’t serious , Thanks to John and Kathy Williams
Big thanks to Landlord of new Brewm who helped get me to car
Collapsed again getting out of car at services and ambulance came this time, straight to Blackburn resus
Heart rate was down to 28 when 60 is dangerous. Family straight to relative room and paramedics said I was very poorly
Thankfully got stabilised and dual pacemaker fitted Monday basically because none done Sunday

Must have been a terrifying experience. Good to hear you are on the mend and that genuine, decent people are still around.

Take it easy Spike, my father in law collapsed in a car park and played it down to everyone. It was only when we forced him to go to the hospital, he walked in (alone because of Covid) and explained to the staff that he fell on uneven ground so they took him to the fracture clinic, it was there when he collapsed again and died a week later from a heart attack and a stroke.

I'm not trying to scare you, but some blokes of a certain age think they know their bodies and are immortal.

Good luck, Spike with your rehabilitation. I got put on cardio rehabilitation physio with a group of other heart patients. Happiest bunch of people you will ever meet!

Regular exercise, adjusted diet, lots and lots of fruit and veg. Reduced red meat, more white meat, more fish. I also cut out alcohol - I like the non-alcoholic beers, now.

All worth it, 5+ years so far, for me. Now playing walking football.

My wife is a cardiac specialist nurse and deals with patients that have had these implantable defibrillators, pacemakers, surgery, etc. You’ll no doubt be assigned your own, but if you have any questions whatsoever just let me know and I’ll put them to her.

I imagine some of her advice will sound like Paul’s, but doubt even she is draconian enough to recommend no -alcoholic beer!!!!

You’ll soon be back. I’ve just recently had a relative who needed a big heart operation. I’m amazed at how quickly he’s recovered from it.

First and foremost, get well soon spike it must have been a terrible ordeal.

Secondly, I find it extremely sad that it took 3 hours for an ambulance to arrive, and the fact nobody picked up on that seems to suggest that is just normal these days. I do not for one second suggest that the fantastic people who operate these ambulances are to blame, but clearly something is wrong. My grandma had a nasty fall the other week outside marks and Spencer’s, the guy who worked there said a lot had been falling. She could not move and an ambulance would not come out to her. Fortunately I wasn’t working this day and I took her to the hospital. It was clearly broken, never offered an X-ray and was given exercises to do only to be told 6 weeks later that she should have had an X-ray, the exercises were given too early and she may never be able to lift her arm above her head again and the healing process could now take a year.

Sorry for the digression, but the NHS is clearly stretched and when you work good people to the ground, these things can happen. A sad situation indeed.

My daughter is a cardiac nurse in a large city hospital. The fear of catching Coronavirus in hospital has scared many from phoning for an ambulance. In her experience, people (mostly men) have been getting chest pains but deciding to 'tough it out' waiting 3 or 4 days before finally phoning.

Sadly too much irreversible damage has been done to the heart in those 4 days and a patient who only needed a minor procedure dies. Sadly, these people are not being listed in the Covid related death figures but perhaps they should be.

To anyone suffering any kind of heart pain....go get it checked out. The sooner you phone the more likely the ambulance crews and hospital medical staff will be able to help you.

I had chest pains whilst walking last year and ignored it for weeks on end. When I finally decided to report it I had 2 stents fitted within a couple of hours of arriving at Blackburn.

My LAD artery (widow maker) was 95% blocked and the rear one bad but not quite the same.

I was very, very lucky and very, very fortunate not to suffer more damage to my heart.

I miss-diagnosed my symptoms, we all think we are Consultants since Google arrived.

Please, let the real experts decide for you!

Whilst generally good advice, the experts don't always get it right. I was fitted with a Bi-Ventricular Pacemaker which led to the worst twelve months of my life. I couldn't walk forty metres, struggled for breath, aches and pains etc., etc. After much pleading the experts turned the device off and I'm now improving - walking four kilometres a day with concomitant improvements overall.

She said if you’ve had a duel chamber pacemaker “he’ll be fine”, if that’s any reassurance. Should avoid the football for a couple of weeks after fitting, so fine for Norwich if you feel well enough, but said make some normal adjustments like arriving early/leaving after the crowds have left so you don’t get knocked.

Sounds like me. Kept getting chest pains while walking the dog in the mornings mainly. Like you I just ignored them but finally mentioned them to the wife who was a nurse for 30 odd years. After getting a ferocious bollocking I got finally went to the doc’s. Just had a stent fitted 2 weeks ago because of 90% blockage of LAD. I’ve got my cardiac rehab appointment next week.
