Mention of Spurs letting him go. Not a bad central defensive midfielder. Thoughts?

Yeah fair enough…. Where would he play?

I'd have him all day long, great work ethic, passing range and abit of bite in the tackle, as a replacement for westy it would also be an upgrade in my opinion.

I'd definitely have him here but as above, can't see it. Then again, I didn't give us a chance of signing Cornet. January would be a good time as well if he's not getting minutes, even if it's a loan with the option of signing in the summer.

2.5yrs left on his spurs contract come January - Levy always gets the maximum he can out of any deal, the lad is English etc so are we looking at £20 million plus for him?
It's suggested his wages are at least £50k a week, so we may possibly need to break our wage structure to get him.
Clearly stagnating at Spurs, still only 25, but is he the type of player to take us to the next level?
I haven't seen enough of him to know whether he would or not tbh.
His stats would suggest he doesn't do a lot of forward passing/attacking play so would we be getting another Brownhill type player?
That wouldn't bother me, but it may some others.

Great player, but there would be serious competition, no doubt from other London clubs-as happened with Will Hughes, Sissoko, Gallagher

He'd be an upgrade on all our central midfielders. Wasn't that long ago it looked like he was going to be a regular for England.

He'd walk into our team. And many others. A little lightweight, bit otherwise an excellent player. He hardly ever gives the ball away. Wages and other interested parties will make this a no go though

I’m always a bit wary of these promising young players at the big clubs, and always wonder if they’d look as good when they’re surrounded by players of lesser quality! On top of that, the fact that you have to pay top dollar when you sign them. There are plenty of examples of these players not making the grade, and IMO these types of signings are an expensive gamble we can’t afford to take.

I can't say I have seen that much of him to be honest, but when he was first playing for England, the pundits were saying he was the best option for receiving the ball off the defence on the half turn and carrying it forward.
We certainly haven't got anyone to do that regular.

He’s a bit of a sideways tidy type midfielder but a very good passer and would be an obvious replacement for Westwood. I think he’s the kind of signing that could take us to the next level.

It wasn’t that long ago that Jack Cork was in the England squad in fact both in 2017.

The 2017 Jack Cork would walk into our midfield and is easily better than anyone we've got at the moment including Jack himself.
Winks was playing for England in 2020 and would walk into our midfield but I cant see us being able to afford the transfer fees and wages we'd likely be talking about to sign him.
Im not sure Winks would fancy a move to Burnely and would probably fancy his chances at getting a better club and he would probably be right too

Premier League is a lot bigger than the La Liga so I would bet he has increased his wages whilst staying within our wage structure and that the exposure he will get if he does well at Burnley potentially moves him to the next level.
Winks will fancy his chances of getting an existing Premier League club who pay higher wages than Burnley, play better football, are likely to finish higher and are likely to be better geographically.
Thats not a dig at us but the fact that we are so massively over achieving on such a relatively small budget means signing players like Winks is extremely hard.
That said its not impossible, just my opinion and I could very well be wrong on this one

Harry Winks is exactly the level of signing we're after.
It might prove beyond our means to persuade the actual Harry Winks but there will be other players of his ability who we should also be aiming for.

I’ve not seen anything since he went to Swansea that suggests to me he is the level we want to be looking for tbh. I think some fans get too carried away with the hype that surrounds the big clubs, our own experience should warn against assuming just because they arrive with big reputations they are better than what we find elsewhere. History suggests it remains very much pot luck signing from a big club.

Some Burnley fans didn't think Jack Grealish was good enough for us when he was at Villa in the Championship. The same applied when Jesse Lingard was mentioned.
Harry Winks would get into our midfield, no problem at all.

The mere suggestion that Lingard, Winks or Grealish would not walk into our team, tells you all you need to know about how much most fans actually watch other clubs

He's like David Jones x1000. Don't think it will happen though. More likely to go to somewhere in London like Crystal Palace.

Winks would be a cracking signing, but I doubt it'll happen, due to wages and transfer fees, plus he's likely to want to remain in the London area.
Definitely the standard we should be chasing though, and under the new regime we do appear to be getting more ambitious in our targets.

Here come the usual suspects who can't seem to understand when some fans have concerns about a player and then proceed to spend the next couple of years taking our concerns out of context in an attempt to belittle/bash us.
It's boring now, but feel free to carry on looking daft

He came from Ligue 1 in France. I am pretty sure it was reported that Cornet has to come to Burnley on lower wages with Lyon paying part of it. I believe it was Nixon that confirmed that.
Winks is on a reported 50k a week so that puts him in our wage bracket.
He walks in to our centre midfield, I can’t believe there are posters saying otherwise.

I meant Ligue 1 but as for his wages being higher then maybe but it would surprise but again if Lyon are contributing it makes sense. With regards to Winks I think he would likely get offered a better wage elsewhere but again who knows.
One thing I agree with you and most others on is that he would be a great signing and much better than what we've got

Winks is a completely different calibre of player. Someone that can get the ball and spray it about.

Is Dyche really a fan of Winks? I’d like it if he was, City were linked to Winks a few years ago with Pep being an admirer. He fits the profile for us if we are looking to upgrade plus lower the age of the midfield. Good player.

I think he’s plateaued out. Promising 2-3 years ago but has not made any improvement.
Absolutely nailed on for Palace or Villa you’d think.

A move to a club where he can be first choice would help him get back on track.
I'd have him here, especially as Cork is entering the twilight of his career and Stephens is pretty much at the end of his.
I just wouldn't have the illusion that he'd be a forward attacking player like Gallagher for example.

I'd like us to be going for a more athletic midfielder of the phillip Billing variety first but Winks would be a good addition to improve what we have at the moment.
