BFC Social Media & Cornet

I am all for promoting our players, making new heroes, but I must say I am getting a little uncomfortable about how much air time Mr Cornet is receiving, particularly on official social media channels. For one, he's played the equivalent of just under 2 games so far. Secondly, the make up of BFC is the sum of the team - not one player. Promoting one player above all others has never been the ethos. Thirdly, it just seems like a brazen attempt by the club to broaden our appeal. These things should be a slow burn.

Could it be a way of making him feeling welcome considering he has moved country to join us ?

More unnecessary outrage that’s symptomatic of society today.

Dammed if they do, damned if they don’t.

I expect it is mostly marketing and that things are somewhat different day to day on the training ground and around the club.

That's my initial thought too after reading the OP. They are trying to make him feel at home.

Club’s social media strategy temporarily replaces ethos with pathos shocker!

Media clearly changing at Burnley - I used to look at the Twitter account for info but alas it has changed and moved away from that.

1. Player comfortable with social media. Not all are.
2. Chance to attract his fans over to us.
3. Making a fuss of our new boy.
4. Lot of potential interactions and shares all around the world.

I think most people in social media land would do the same.

And not just the Ivory Coast, Roberts is having to cope with making the transition of coming from a third world country too.

I don't mind new ideas in the marketing, at least they're trying to grow social channels.

I'm more shocked at Burnley having FIFA players on contracts.
Gamers on contract?? Worlds gone mad.

I think I'll check back tomorrow.

Nowt better to do than make a thing out of this and making a story up in your own head that the squad are going to get fed up with this attention.

What's next on your worry list? Ben Mee going to retire because Cornet has had his song sung more times this season that Mee has in the last 3-4 at least?

Do people genuinely worry about these things?

Can’t see the issue. We sign an exciting player. He likes the crowd and the crowd like him. Promote him and make him feel welcome.

Talking of Cornet, do you think this could give the club more confidence in signing more players abroad? They've obviously done their homework and brought in a quality player - why stop here? This could open up our options 10 fold instead of only relying on the Championship or loans.

Hi Papabendi, Maxwel Cornet scored our best goal of the season, so far in his first Premier League start. That alone is something to celebrate. If that isn't celebrated on "official social media channels" what are those social media channels for? Yes, BFC is a team and a lot of effort in the transfer window was spent on adding to our team. So, again, let's celebrate that the first of those players to get his Premier League start has scored an excellent goal. Yes, of course, it's aimed at broadening the club's appeal. That's what social media is for and that's what Burnley FC need to do.

Oh, and it's Black History month. Again, reason to celebrate.

I think so. If we can demonstrate overseas players being successful here it will encourage others. Think we need to be careful still due to signings that don’t work like Vossen and Hennings etc. Still think there is some hidden quality in African country players and many of these who play in the French League.

Yeah, scouting is obviously massively important. But the likes of Vossen and Hennings are a long time back and I doubt we have the same people scouting. The thing with Cornet is that he's young and we have a profit sale on him. Young + quality + profit is perfect for the club at this moment in time. We get the best out of him, he makes Burnley FC a lot of money and he moves on to a bigger club and we make a profit. Everybody is a winner.

Certainly is. Our proximity to Manchester could be good for signings of bigger players in future. Cornet clearly knows a few of the players there and it is a big city which offers a lot for all ages of players. Cheshire as well for the schools and housing which I know a lot of our players use.

At least it's a change from the "hilarious" pics of Westwood drinking a brew every week.
