Re: Petrol in Burnley
From driving past and seeing cars at the pumps I think pretty much all of them have Petrol, not sure about Diesel
Re: Petrol in Burnley
When all this is sorted, petrol stations will be dead for a month as hardly anybody will need to fill up.

Re: Petrol in Burnley
Don’t know why they don’t put “OUT” or some indication on the price board so that you know if there’s any available without having to drive onto for forecourt.
Would make things a lot easier
Would make things a lot easier
Re: Petrol in Burnley
Most of them have shops and they know some people will go in and buy food, a newspaper etc. Put up a sign and they'll lose that.
Re: Petrol in Burnley
I've seen people get out of their car and walk into the shop to buy while they are waiting for the pump. Most stations haven't run out, so no point them saying they have.

Re: Petrol in Burnley
Most stations haven’t run out? Nite before last I drove round Burnley Nelson Padiham and Simonstone without finding a station with diesel. Not one.
Re: Petrol in Burnley
If the £30 limit was the minimum instead of the maximum any queues would surely disappear as many drivers now are just topping up with £10.amounts and blocking forecourts.

Re: Petrol in Burnley
Craggs in Padiham opened up to the public for diesel. Normally trade with fuel cards. Been big queues in the morning apparently but I went past yesterday at 1pm and just 2 cars and a tractor in line.
Back of Tesco nr the old Main Gas if you don't know it.

I think things are finally starting to calm down, it was only people going mad before which kind of created the problem in the first place had everybody behaved normally with topping up everything would have been fine.

Re: Petrol in Burnley
Might take a few weeks yet, but the price of fuel is going up again, to what seems like eye watering levels.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 12:30 amI think things are finally starting to calm down, it was only people going mad before which kind of created the problem in the first place had everybody behaved normally with topping up everything would have been fine.
Re: Petrol in Burnley
I've not had a car since before the pandemic which of course put me off buying as I thought I'd wait until it was over. I'm now wondering whether I should bother at all and instead stick to taxis and buses.
Re: Petrol in Burnley
You pay first, a bit like ordering fast food pay at the pump only.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 11:17 pmIt really isn't. People would just put in the amount they pleased and refuse to pay any extra.

Re: Petrol in Burnley
If you consider somebody a “prat” for being unfortunate because some idiot decided to crash into him whilst his vehicle was stationary I guess you could be right. That same incident could have happened to anybody in the wrong place at the wrong time.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 11:44 pmFor all those driving around looking for petrol at least you didnt crash you car in the process like that prat Nigel Farage did![]()

Oh Jakub.

Re: Petrol in Burnley
Does anyone know how they enforce the £30 limit? Does the pump just stop dispensing fuel?

Re: Petrol in Burnley
If your tank hasn't got space for mimimum £30 fuel do you just continue gushing it all over the forecourt?

Re: Petrol in Burnley
I think the general idea could be is that you only fill up if you know to start with that you’ve got less than half a tank, the £30 is a good idea because it would prevent plenty of repeated journeys with people topping up with paltry amounts. You only top up when you need to or when you are sufficiently running low enough to.
Re: Petrol in Burnley
Very true, however I am persuaded you may be right.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 6:16 pmI can see you've never had to work in a petrol station.

Once again, unworkable. People would just put in whatever they wanted and refuse to pay the difference.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 6:42 pmI think the general idea could be is that you only fill up if you know to start with that you’ve got less than half a tank, the £30 is a good idea because it would prevent plenty of repeated journeys with people topping up with paltry amounts. You don’t understand it would be a measured amount only allowed to dispense to that set amount.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 6:45 pmOnce again, unworkable. People would just put in whatever they wanted and refuse to pay the difference.

I know it doesn’t, it’s an idea you are questioning how it would possibly work & I'm explaining to you in theory how it would work in practice if the idea ever became reality.

Re: Petrol in Burnley
You could fit a probe into the tank & it would detect if the fuel capacity in the tank is sufficient enough to hold the £30 shot, to prevent the overflowing issue that’d only apply to a minority of customers because the vast numbers would turn up knowing that £30 is enough.

Utterly pointless. By the time an engineer had installed such a facility, the fuel crisis will have ended.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 6:57 pmYou could fit a probe into the tank & it would detect if the fuel capacity in the tank is sufficient enough to hold the £30 shot, to prevent the overflowing issue that’d only apply to a minority of customers because the vast numbers would turn up knowing that £30 is enough.

Yes it’s futile short term but if the shortages ever became long term & consumers had to be rationed that’s the best way of going about it.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 7:08 pmUtterly pointless. By the time an engineer had installed such a facility, the fuel crisis will have ended.
