X43 from Manchester - ticket info

Hello, can anyone help me?

I'm bussing in stead of driving tomorrow so x43 from Manchester. I'm looking at the tickets on the transdev app for witch way and the first one that pops up is "day tripper" but it only mentions travel in Lancashire and Yorkshire. I figured this was the right ticket but below there are some that specifically mention greater manchester but nothing for one days travel. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Cheers

I don’t really want to put the bus company out of business but the train from Victoria to Manchester Road is your better option and only 40 minutes journey time. £11 return or just over £7 with senior railcard.

I think the app only offers day travel tickets rather than destination to destination. If you are travelling directly from Manchester to Burnley and back I think you will be better getting a return ticket when you get on the bus. You can contactless now on the X43.

It might be just me but I trust a bus to turn up more than a train. And a bus is always easier to book and just jump on.

I probably just need to get out more.

I always use the bus if I'm going to Manchester for three reasons.

1. More frequent
2. Bus stop close to home
3. I don't pay on the bus.

I might only be 41, but I'm just an old-timer when it comes to bus and train. I caught a bus for the first time in what must be 20 years, a few weeks ago. I was like... do they accept card payment? I had no idea!

It was cash only up to March last year which I always thought strange but they prefer contactless now and the new buses aren't bad with the phone chargers etc.

They are indeed very good buses Tony. However once I have had two or three pints in Burnley I find it difficult to make the journey back to Manchester knowing that I will need to empty my bladder. In fact the last time I caught one I had to get off at Prestwich, called in pub and caught the next one an hour later after a couple more pints. It could of course be something to do with my advancing years.

The daytripper ticket is basically any of the local buses around Burnley, plus return to Manchester.

There is also an offer of a 1 anywhere deal after 7pm on the x43.

So all in all. If you are only getting the bus from and back to Manchester forget the Daytripper. Ask how much a return is. Then ask how much single is if you plan to return after 7pm. It will probably work out cheaper a single to Burnley then a single back to Manchester for £1 if you indeed want to set off back after 7pm.

The train when they are on time or actually turn up are far better. But I mostly go for the bus, I know it’ll be there on time or at least within 5 minutes.

With Northern Rail it seems to be a 50/50 chance if the train actually turns up these days.

I was getting the X43 bus into Manchester last Saturday on my journey to Leicester.
The bus I had planned to catch at 8.30am didnt turn up, the next one was 10 minutes late!

I missed my train from Piccadilly, I had an advance single ticket which meant I had to buy another ticket for the next train!

I would always leave more than a 10 minute cushion for catching public transport.

Manchester rd from the Trafalgar st roundabout up to Rosehill pubs/shops is closed (was closed yesterday - Friday) for resurfacing, expect chaos and allow extra travel time

He did. It was the 2nd bus that was 10 minutes late. The first didn't turn up.
But you make a very reasonable point. I always build an hour in if traveling by bus to Piccadilly. Too many "unpredictables" and it costs you a lot if you miss your pre-booked train.

Well spotted, I read it wrong as the X43 is every 15 minutes or so in peak times.

I once went into Manchester for a few beer on a Wednesday night after work. Jumped on the X43 at Chorlton St not realising both Manchester clubs were playing in European fixtures and the Xmas markets were on. An hour and 37 minutes it took just to get through Manchester. I don't know when a bus is late or actually becomes the next service haha, but about 7 should have got through in that time.

I would have thought that was plenty of time to catch the train (or should have been!)
