Forget all the politics surrounding Brentford. They have been smart in the transfer market, just as they have been in manager appointments in the last 8-10 years. They have made some brilliant low cost investments in players, grown them, then made a massive profit. Maupey, Watkins, Benrahma, Konsa,Andre Gray, and a few more. They even snatched Tarkowsli ahead of us when we were bulking at giving Oldham £800k for him. They shrewdly bought Toney off Peterborough and in two seasons his value must have risen close to £45m

There nothing stopping us beung smart. It doesn't depend on the size of your fan base, the wealth of our owners etc, its just about having vision

They’ve done really well. I like the pace they have throughout the team and the way they all move quickly as a unit.

"Brentford are in a much more appealing geographic location than Burnley" not quite so stupid when you take in context, which was to attract younger players who are London/South East based. Clearly if you are one of the biggest clubs in Europe and able to offer multi million pound salaries, then location becomes less of an issue.

Out of interest, how many young players from London/South East have we managed to sign in the past 5 years? As i have already said, Andre Gray was one but once he had the "popstar" girlfriend, he was off to the London area at the first opportunity.
Don't kid yourself about the area because if Burnley paid wages of 2ook and paid fees of 100 million they wouldn't give a shite what area of the UK we was in, footballer's follow the pound not the postcode

And Burnley is close to good areas for footballers anyway. No football club is really right in the middle of a lovely area...

Footballers in the country already may prefer to stay down south with their family but if the moneys better they don’t care.

The problem for us is when southern teams match our offer and give an alternative location, meaning we may have to pay more to land targets.

They've done very well, but whenever you see a smaller club breaking through there's always a rich owner subsidising them with multi millions. Except Burnley, we're just the best club in the country.

Their team and manager have been very impressive this season and they look like they should survive fairly comfortably.

All the best to them, apart from when they play us of course.

Built a new ground sold it off for £65m
I spent last year working at the school next door
The deal was then to pay £1 per season lease along with London Irish
Their scouting network is superb though
How on earth did we not sign Tarks when he was at Oldham .Brentford did says it all really
Although I do feel Alan Pace will sort out our recruitment. We have already got two class acts in with Max and Nathan

...Remains to be seen if they can do if for 6 successive seasons.... or even the whole of this season...
I'm sure I can recall some club coming up via the play-offs once before - it was a while back, around 2009 maybe? - and really surprising everyone early on in the season; I keep thinking of Barnsley, but they're from South Yorkshire and I'm sure this lot were from somewhere in East Lancashire.

Until teams like Brentford qualify for Europe and have at least six straight seasons in the Premier league then their model will never be anywhere near as successful as ours.
Correct but a rider. As ours was!!!

Or didn't follow up on Toney.

Same thing has crossed my mind. Although Brentford are doing better away from home.

Prime example - Toney. Some posters thought we should have signed him but would he have been ready for the PL? He's had a couple more seasons at Championship level before stepping up.
I can't see why we couldn't have signed Toney (or a few others TBH) who may not have been considered PL ready.
Look at some of the so-called PL ready players we have signed!

Nowadays, they all live in Cheshire, in any case!
