Seems very unlikely the richest club on the planet (by an absolute mile) would want either of those two, Newcastle want to be competing for PL titles.

I’d get Varane and Mbappe.
I bets it’s that easy on Footy Manager.

Probably not the best of the best, however I would argue they could attract practically any player outside of the top 4-5 clubs in world football with the money they can offer
FFP won’t be a problem by the sounds of it. I imagine Saudi airlines will replace there current sponsor with a 100m a season deal
Re: Tarks & McNeil
I’m bored of the Newcastle takeover already.
Can’t we keep it to the main thread?

Re: Tarks & McNeil
Need the right manager first.
Bruce isn't that man.
Then they need to start off with better than average players.
They're gonna buy a few duds initially like Robinho.
They may end up with a Kompany or Silva but they're not gonna convince the world's best to rock up at Newcastle just yet unless they pay way over the odds.
Re: Tarks & McNeil
I'd be surprised if Bruce lasts another week. I think you're underestimating the wealth, they can sign whoever the feck they want.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 8:32 pmNeed the right manager first.

Re: Tarks & McNeil
I'm not underestimating the wealth at all thanks.
What do you think Mbappe would want in wages to turn up and sign for Newcastle, when they're so uncompetitive right now?
They all know they won't win anything this year, probably not next year either and no guarantee of European football.
Building a club up takes time, it took City 3 yrs before they were able to win a league title, but they were already splashing cash before the current owners turned up.
You're thinking like it's a game of football manager where you can just throw money at a player and they'll sign....

To be fair if Newcastle offered 1m a week to someone like a Neymar it would be interesting to see if it would get turned down.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 8:44 pmI'm not underestimating the wealth at all thanks.

If I’m honest I can see them going for the Countinho, Bale, Griezman calibre of player in January

Just another Arab owned club buying success. Perhaps they should form a league of their own and leave the rest of us to concentrate on football.

Coutinho maybe would go, but he's on stupid wages circa £350k a week.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 8:54 pmTo be fair if Newcastle offered 1m a week to someone like a Neymar it would be interesting to see if it would get turned down.

Bale - ooc next summer, but wages...
All of those sorts of players are on daft money and want European football.
They're not gonna up sticks for the north east just yet.

One thing is for certain these owners won’t care about throwing hundreds of millions at players.

Many did for China, and even that's turned sour, but here in the PL it's a different kettle of fish.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 9:32 pmDo you not think they would for double/triple the wages?

The PL and City have been fighting in court for a few years now about City's financial doping via their owners.
City are just using technicalities but they're starting to run out of wiggle room.
Newcastle aren't going to get away with it to the same extent.

Also, if you double or triple the wages on offer there's a real chance of ending up with the next Bogarde who just sat at Chelsea not playing but still getting paid.

Re: Tarks & McNeil
I'm intrigued to see their journey, happy for their fans and as a football fan, the PL has stepped up another gear. This doesn't really effect my team long term, so why can't I be a little excited to see who they buy/how they get to the top?

We don't know what he's going to do yet, he might even retire for all we know.
He may not want to play for another club in the PL, he may end up staying at Real with a new deal.
Multiple possibilities.
I see there are claims that Newcastle have enquired about Martial though....not exactly a world class signing ...

Re: Tarks & McNeil
Newcastle really is the frozen North and all the hype about them doing other than staying up,regardless of who is manager is just that, paper talk. What European based stars would want to sign for a club steeped in history of mainly long gone glories?

Re: Tarks & McNeil
I do think talk of Newcastle signing mega stars is a little premature, regardless of their wealth.
There are only so many top players to go round and that is a very competitive market already with clubs that have deep pockets and history both long term and short term already in there!
Throw in the fact that Newcastle really is the frozen north and not as desirable as London and Manchester and I don’t think it will be as straight forward as people think.
Comparisons with China and that Russian team that bought players are fine but how many genuine world starts followed that path? The ones that did were on one last pay day.
I expect that’s where Newcastle will be in the short term, good players topping up their pension pots…..what happens after that, time will tell.

Re: Tarks & McNeil
I'm looking forward to seeing how the Premier League will tie itself in knots to allow them to break ffp rules. No more than a £150m loss over 3 years? The league and the club will completely ignore it through creative accounting. Perhaps they will have one seat painted golden and charge £200m a year for the season ticket for it.

Absolutely. You're entitled to be as excited as you wish by it. Not too sure what you mean by 'the PL has stepped up another gear' when in a slightly later post you mention even higher transfer fees and higher wage demands. Bit confused by that. My wife of 47 years is a Geordie and is disgusted by what has happened to her club. She refuses to play the Blaydon Races on the piano anymore and has binned my 'Larn yersel Geordie' book. Funny old game.

Re: Tarks & McNeil
Does anybody think the geographical location of Newcastle will stop them from ever being a super power?
Obviously money talks with a lot of players, but the types of lads they will be looking to sign will be multi millionaires already, so would more cash be more of an incentive to them so that they’re not bothered about living in the North East?
Like our players, I’m aware they won’t probably live anywhere near the club, and there are some wonderful areas in the north east of England but I just think the location may prevent players choosing Paris, Madrid, London or even Manchester over the freezing cold north east..

They tried but lots of people cried and got all upset about it.
It wouldn't have bothered me one bit.
It would have been good for English football IMO

Re: Tarks & McNeil
I think you have to take into account the IQ of the average Premier League footballer, too. The enigmatic David Ginola grew bored of the area once he'd visited every available outlet in the Metro Centre. Form improved when he moved south to Spurs where he felt the influence of warm South to south-westerlies crossing La Manche.
Then, of course, many years back was the wistful John Trewick, a Geordie himself but then playing for West Bromwich Albion managed by a certain Ron Atkinson. The club were on a visit to China where part of their itinerary was an excursion to the Great Wall of China. Trewick declined the offer preferring to stay in the hotel. When asked why, he replied in a deep, thick Geordie accent, ' Well, when you've seen one wal(wall), you've seen 'em al(all). Decent enough player, though.

Sort of the point I was making above. It’s a congested market for the top players and Newcastle may take some selling regardless of the cash.Andreshotboots wrote: ↑Sat Oct 09, 2021 12:01 pmDoes anybody think the geographical location of Newcastle will stop them from ever being a super power?

Re: Tarks & McNeil
I didn't mention higher wage demands and transfer fees, Sidney did while quoting my post. As for the league stepping up a gear, the standard at the top is incredibly high right now and with Newcastle now soon to be joining that party, it's only gonna improve the standard of the league. I'm excited to see it play out as a football fan.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 09, 2021 11:52 amAbsolutely. You're entitled to be as excited as you wish by it. I don't think we'll be in the PL long term, we're waiting to be relegated. Wether it's this season, next or the following one, we're sitting ducks without drastic action.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 09, 2021 7:59 amYes it does, we will see another increase in transfer fees and wage demands.

There's only one way to find out what will happen at Newcastle, I'd be surprised if they signed players who are similar level to what they already have.

The Telegraph reporting Tarks to Newcastle as a rumour and saying he’s keen on the move.
Re: Tarks & McNeil
Does that mean we could possibly get a few quid for him in January as we know that money is no object for them?
