Natural gas is a fairly clean burning fossil fuel. This country should never have allowed its energy security to get in the mess its in.

Is it in a mess though? Or are certain people saying it is to put the prices up & make more money when things aren’t that bad.

It is the cleanest fossil fuel when burnt but it’s still pretty harmful to the environment. Natural gas is mainly made up of methane (CH4). When burnt you get carbon dioxide (CO2) and Carbon Monoxide (CO) amongst others which are harmful greenhouse gases.

This i agree with. To rely on another country to supply your energy is not the best idea is it?

I’m doing a lot of work in looking to switch from Nat gas to hydrogen in our machines. This seems to be the way to go. Green hydrogen is 100% clean and can be produced from 100% green, renewable energy.

The "certain people" putting up the price of gas are the buyers around the world who are prepared to pay high prices for gas, while there is a shortage of supply. Last year covid-19 impacted the world. A lot of things stopped and some of those things that stopped stopped buying gas. So, the gas producers had too much gas, so they stopped producing. Simple thing is, as the world has started to open up, some things can happen faster than others. Demand for gas is one of those things that can "open up" quickly. However, re-opening gas wells to produce gas takes longer, hence the global shortage.

But, it's only a "high prices" issue. It will get sorted and the world will re-balance. Meanwhile, keep an extra layer handy for those colder days.

As a resident of the Fylde coast at the time I can confirm the earthquakes definitely happened.

I didn't say I can't remember or didn't know. My understanding is there was leaking of methane, there were recorded earth tremors and I know for sure there were concerned local residents. Perhaps you could explain further rather posting this cr@p.

What I do know is we need reliable energy. Do you remember coal.mining? There were issues there but my god it improved the lives of millions of working class people and if you and your sort want to cause energy poverty by advocating no fracking, no.nuclear, no gas then sleep well.

I’d like to see more CEOs and Directors of fracking firms really support what they deem to be safe and relocate their families and homes to within the vicinity of fracking sites.

Injecting a mystery (they won't fully disclose) cocktail of toxic chemicals and water at extremely high pressure.
What could possibly go wrong? There are many farms and communities across the US that have been rendered inhabitable by fracking.......Methane in the water supply etc.
Oil & Gas companies have shown time & time again...... they can't be trusted.

Regardless of the fracking, what will happen is that the 'gov't' will whack up the price cap, wholesale prices will go down and gas companies will take full advantage of the increased cap and agree to sting average joe.

I'm all for lower carbon emissions where practical, but the problem is that the self-defeating Road Glue Types would have been up in arms if we had emulated the French and embarked on a similar nuclear energy policy.

We could have been benefiting from a zero-emission clean energy source, but no. The problem is that our past and present politicians have been too cowardly, to put it lightly, and now our reliance on gas will leave millions of people in fuel poverty this winter, not to the mention the impact on the economy and the sorry state of our energy security.
