Action taken on thread re: murdered MP
Firstly, thanks to the posters who helped by reporting the very offensive posts on the thread. Unfortunately, because too many other posters opted to respond it has left me with the only option of deleting the thread.
The offensive comments were posted by a poster by the name of SteveSimpson who had only registered today. Further investigation suggests he/she is the same poster as kazza who is currently serving a third temporary ban since signing up in August. I believe both are the previously banned poster FactualFrank.
Both have now been banned permanently and their details will be made available to the police.
Again, thanks to those who reported it and again, please resist responding. Had no one done so I'd have been able to leave the thread running.

Didnt see it but sounds serious.
Re: Action taken on thread re: murdered MP
At times i've regretted and been embarrassed the day after reading posts I have done whilst having the odd beer or red wine the night before, but sadly some of the posts on this thread were beyond that. We all have our own opinions on things but personal abuse ?

Things posted on the thread were far worse than beer talk, they have now been banned so let's thank CT for the quick reaction and move on.Aclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 9:55 pmAt times i've regretted and been embarrassed the day after reading posts I have done whilst having the odd beer or red wine the night before, but sadly some of the posts on this thread were beyond that. They were horrible.
The thread needed binning after what was posted.

The thread seemed very cordial & respectful when I posted but prior to logging out I could see that things weren’t going to remain that way on such a serious divisive issue, it makes sense when an explanation is offered why such action was deemed necessary & more people will understand.

Unfortunately it there are several posters whose only joy in life is to cause offence or starts rows. Personally I wonder what they get out of it, on second thoughts I’d rather not know.
It seems to be the fashion to try to torpedo every thread, we live in a very selfish and self centred world. Nobody said democracy would last forever.

I can only assume Jakub and elwa did not see the posts as it was not really anything to do with the topic or discussion around it but just a random attack with some vile comments.
This was not someone trying to cause offence or start a row but someone just making disgusting comments about another poster

I don't think a thread needs binning just because of one person but at least Tony has explained why he had no choice but to do it.Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 9:58 pmThey were horrible.

Hopefully that is the way forward (when possible), because that's all folk have ever wanted on here when threads are binned.

Well done. Things they said were vile. Very sad that people think it’s a good idea / funny to post what they did. Say that sort of thing in a pub they’d be leaving head first.

Re: Action taken on thread re: murdered MP
There is no place on this board for users who post such vile and offensive posts! It’s a real shame that’s the mods have to spend so much time trying to keep these disgusting individuals at bay!

Don't mix the thread subject with the replies.
An MP was murdered, valid talking point and thread subject.

No I read the first few, thought about posting and thought better of it… I expected it would quickly turn to the worse and left.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 10:20 pmI can only assume Jakub and elwa did not see the posts as it was not really anything to do with the topic or discussion around it but just a random attack with some vile comments.

Re: Action taken on thread re: murdered MP
Didn’t see the thread thankfully. But yes agree no place for vile insensitive posts, especially as the poor bloke only lost his life a matter of hours ago. Very upsetting news. RIP.

I’m not really sure how a murder can be a divisive issue, but this isn’t the thread for that debate.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 10:05 pmThe thread seemed very cordial & respectful when I posted but prior to logging out I could see that things weren’t going to remain that way on such a serious divisive issue, it makes sense when an explanation is offered why such action was deemed necessary & more people will understand.

Kind of says it all if you have registered under more than 1 name - well handled CTClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 9:20 pmFirstly, thanks to the posters who helped by reporting the very offensive posts on the thread. Re: Action taken on thread re: murdered MP
I've had to remove some of the posts now from this thread and have locked it, which is what I probably should have done originally.
But to comment on two things.
1. Deletion of the entire thread.
Simple reason - it would have taken me far too long to remove all the unnecessary posts that followed. It was people who decided to respond to the offending posts who in the end forced this action.
2. Explaining the reasons
In this case it was possible to do that. In other cases, such as one yesterday when libellous comments had to be removed, it isn't possible. I don't go out of my way to be unhelpful but will treat each case on its merits and take what I think to be the appropriate and sensible action.
I'd also wish to take the opportunity to point out that the offensive posts were in no way related to the thread title or the MP.
