Not a Matrix sign you want to see on the M62
Travelling from Doncaster to Rochdale yesterday afternoon, from about the Huddersfield turn off, the Matrix signs were slowing the traffic down to 20 MPH with a message "Oncoming Vehicle" ! We all slowed down to about 50 MPH when two Police Vehicles zoomed past us in the outside lane at about 100 MPH. I took the soft option turning off at Saddleworth. Thankfully no news of any nasty accidents later that evening, I guess I will never know what the problem was.

Think your autocorrect changed “sensible” to “soft”!!Claretforshaw wrote: ↑Mon Oct 18, 2021 6:14 pmTravelling from Doncaster to Rochdale yesterday afternoon, from about the Huddersfield turn off, the Matrix signs were slowing the traffic down to 20 MPH with a message "Oncoming Vehicle" ! Nothing "soft" about getting out of there...

Saw the exact same sign on the M1 near Wakefield a couple of weeks ago. Did the same thing and turned off but could see the motorway was moving and there appeared to be no issues from the A road running alongside the motorway.
Wonder if it's some sort of training exercise. I've been on the motorway in rolling roadblocks when there has been no obstruction or hazard.

The Police don’t do such ‘training’ exercises. Certainly not on a live motorway.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 18, 2021 6:32 pmSaw the exact same sign on the M1 near Wakefield a couple of weeks ago. On the M65 Eastbound, Nelson/Barrowford slip road, tonight at 5.40 or so, there was a car pointing up the hill on the sliproad down. Anyone else see it? I was on the motorway heading for Colne so I only got a glimpse of the lights; so I can't guarantee what I saw. But it certainly looked like either a car trying to go up instead of down, or else a car that had spun round.

About thirty years ago someone we knew was very seriously injured on the M66 near Bury after being hit by a car going the wrong way. It happens…not certain how but it does. The way junctions are organised it’s almost impossible to go the wrong way down a slip road but it does happen.

Quite often it’s an elderly driver getting confused. Eg turning right after visiting motorway services. Obviously there are drunk and drugged up drivers as well.
I once encountered the aftermath on the M4. I was on the opposite carriageway and noticed there was no cars on the other side. Then I saw cars up embankments, burned out and general chaos where they’d tried to avoid a car coming at them.
