Eddie Howe, Paulo Fonseca and Lucien Favre all reportedly have held talks with Newcastle with Fonseca the current bookies favourite.

I think the fans have every right to voice their opinions with a record like his at the club. They're a fickle bunch, for sure, not a popular choice in the first place but he has done nothing to win them over.

Didn’t he bail out on a few of his clubs in the past? I think he was at Huddersfield when he went mid season to Rio to commentate on Man Utd, don’t think that went down too well. Sheff wed too? Maybe others. I’m sure he can handle it

Finished 12th and 13th. Without injuries and COVID last season they'd have probably done better. Yes, he's had a bit of money, but really only outlaid on ASM, Joelinton, Lewis, Wilson and Willock. Averaging £20m per window to achieve those positions is not too bad. After Benitez, Bruce was never given a chance. I dont think he's the best by a long shot, but the manner of the abuse he has suffered is appalling

Managing rival clubs is always going to be a challenge, especially when you do well at the “first” club
He did well at Sheffield United, but not Wednesday
Did ok at Birmingham but not Villa
Same with Sunderland and Newcastle

Ultimately both managers failed to get the club anywhere beyond,at best, mediocrity. Not sure that Benitez was universally 'adored' in the area but that's merely a moot point. Benitez worked on a limited budget and any money he spent was raised through sales and his style was not that easy on the eye. It was, though, effective( see games v us).
Bruce spent nearly £170 million during his tenure with a sometimes 'scatter gun' approach. His budget in the summer was all spent on one player but then he was calling for additions in the form of loan players.
You can probably tell these are not.my words( personally don't.give a monkey's about other clubs at all) but the opinions of a long standing fan I'm currently on holiday with.
Just heard his comments about the difficulties he faced in the job but nowhere does he mention the £8 million pay off to boost his bank balance.

I wonder how much say either Benitez & Bruce had on signings. Joelinton was on his way under Benitez who told the club not to buy him. Bruce was lumbered with him.

Indeed. Both Bruce and Benitez had 2 full seasons in the PL with Newcastle. 10th & 13th vs 12th & 13th. 44 & 45 pts vs 44 & 45 pts. Only real difference is net spend.
What the Newcastle fans would give for a 13th place finish and 44pts this season eh?

Give it a month or two and Bruce will be back. I wonder if he’d be tempted to rescue Gillingham; they’re struggling and gave him his break as a player after he had been rejected by so many clubs (including us)

He didn’t, but Benitez’s name ends in ‘ez’ so obviously he’s better. It’s a strange football affliction that exotic sounding foreign managers seem to get fairer treatment from a lot of fans than ones with less exotic names.

He's Portuguese so automatically yes he is
On a serious note, win % at Roma over 2 seasons is 52%, that's very impressive.

It will probably be a welcome relief for Bruce knowing all the speculation and hype around the takeover. The payoff won’t hurt either. He can also leave with some, albeit small, credit for achievements he had made.
As mentioned above, although Newcastle are a big traditional football club, I have no liking for them. Probably ever since 1974. Much prefer Sunderland.

The Newcastle fans IMO are among the worst in the country. They have hounded out virtually every manager including Bobby Robson. They are too stupid to see the irony in erecting a statue to him.
They have whinged constantly about Mike Ashley while ignoring the fact that the net spend on players during Ashley’s tenure was £177 million. The only thing they are interested in is someone buying success for them.

From the moment the takeover happened he was probably working on the biggest compensation pay out he could get. Bruce and nobody else will be the least bit surprised at this. I really don't feel sorry for him or any manager with the money they get paid, I'm sure the £8m payout will help make up for his disappointment.

Benitez said and did things that made it quite clear that he was often at loggerheads with Ashley. He made it clear that he was not prepared to settle for stagnation. He did a good job of almost keeping them up when he first took over and then stuck with the task getting them out of the championship first time out - playing some decent football in doing so.
Steve bruce just isn't up to keeping a side up perennially with his hands tied behind his back. They've got lucky with St maximim and the willock loan, but otherwise everything has been going backwards since he took over.
Anyway, it's wrong to think that Newcastle supporters hate Steve bruce. They don't. They just think he's a fairly shite manager who would take them down at the end of the season, and a bit of a yes man for Ashley (who they do hate). I may be missing one or two, but the real vitriol (management-side) is for two non-managers who were given authority by Ashley to, basically, undermine other managers - Dennis wise and Joe kinnear. And on the playing side, Michael owen. If you take every unfair/abusive comment about JBG that gets put on here, multiply it by 3, (and the comparative salary by a lot more than 3), then you get a snapshot of owens time at Newcastle.
Anyway, we have people here that want dyche out, and I'm still ****** off with the calls for "casper out" 30 years ago. Dyche is more like our Benitez.

Nothing wrong with Steve Bruce or his record. Yes he may have bombed out of some Clubs for greener grass but there isn't any guarantee in football that you wake up the next day still in employment.
The whole 'Newcastle thing' is a joke, yes they have a great fan base and the area has been a football hotbed for generations producing quality players to play at the highest level.
Their fans prior to social media (and after the hooligan years) can be either good fun and knowledgeable or completely delusional.
Newcastle United is not a successful Club, it has been a hyped up nothing ever since Keegan left after winning nothing outside of respect for attacking football.
I hope the whole project ends in tears.

To some of the diehards he stopped being a “fellow geordie” the moment he started managing Sunderland.
