Walking Burnley

Thought this might interest a few folk on here.
Someone has filmed a walk through town and it’s quite an interesting watch. Don’t know if it’s been posted on here before so apologies if it has.

Very good i must say , now never knew Burnley was part of Yorkshire at one time .Also the lock up at the back of the Swan was new to me . Did smile at the Clock tower at Burnley Bus Station , now how many times i meet the some yound girl under it at 7.30pm on a Friday night hummmmmm most never turned up but that's another story .

Excellent video. Burnley have a lot of wonderful old buildings and the council deserve a lot of credit for retaining a lot of the towns illustrious history.

What?
The town centre was absolutely ruined by the council in the 60s and 70s
There's virtually nothing left in the town centre.
Losing the Odeon was the final blow.
What a magnificent building.

Completely agree. The memories I have of visiting the Odeon.
However, the video is an enjoyably tour of what Burnley has left, and look at the weather!

I think an audio commentary is needed, I spent too much time reading the captions to really enjoy the vision.

If you click on the name of the channel on YouTube - the person has done loads of then in lots of different places.

Absolutely, charter walk, the kierby area and the large office block complex in the centre of town are abominations that should never have got the nod. When you look at the rest of the town centre buildings, they just do not fit in whatsoever.

Don’t forget the old Victorian market hall. It was a gem. There was a great collection of stall holders inside and it stood at the centre of a thriving outdoor market on Saturdays. It was criminal to knock it down - in fact they had to blow it up as it was so substantial. The new building is rubbish and should be knocked down and replaced.

So wonderful - invoking so many memories! I worked in Burnley centre for a number of years, in an office on Parker lane. I walked home every lunchtime to mum & dad's, going down Hargreaves Street, then onto Hammerton Street before going up past Weavers Institute and across the canal onto Trafalgar Street.
It was on my past Weavers Institute once that I 'clocked' this young girl walking into town .'Mmm' I thought. Passed her a number of times over the months. Anyway, cutting a long story short, I've been happily married to this young girl now for over 51 years!!
