Never read much pleasant about Colin ****** on here but tomorrow night will be his 1602nd league match as manager. A new record, taking him past Dario Gradi. With 8 promotions behind him he must be doing something right.

I’ve always enjoyed watching him and his career speaks for itself. The sort of character that will soon be lost to football completely. Long may he continue to annoy folk.

Don’t tell Stan

Can be somewhat irritable but a football man through and through. Appears on local TV up here and is generally sound and good value. Ternent was a wind-up merchant so not all Colin’s fault.

An odious man eh. Well you seem to be an expert on that front. Amen.

Not sure the Boro fans are overjoyed with him, but then again it doesn’t take much. He’s doing well and at 72 he still seems to find the energy and enthusiasm to continue.

I'd of had him in a heartbeat instead of some of the dross we have had over the years. Not everyones cup of tea but characters like him are far and few between.

He is an old school "character" who as a manager made a significant contribution to the majority of clubs he managed .Sadly characters in management in our game are declining rapidly, and the football world will be a sadder place when they all go-Ternent, McCarthy, Clough, Shankly, Atkinson, Dyche, Wilder, Rednapp are all names I have fond memories of

Stan and Kevin Blackwell were on Goals on Sunday together. Blackwell looked quite sincere in trying to tell Stan it was a wind up but Stan’s hackles were still up over it.

Love him or hate him , he's still one of the few characters we've got left in football . He's also isn't worried during interviews , to actually say what he really thinks about the ref .

Always think of Stan's dedicated chapter on him when he gets mentioned -

Yes he's old school, and quite possibly one of the last few in that mould, but 8 promotions isn't too shabby is it, and knowing Warnock you wouldn't rule out him making it 9 with Boro.

I can remember seeing him a few times in his playing days. Quite a tricky player.

You could be right but we'd have been idiots to pick Laws over Warnock. I have a feeling he was in the run in when we appointed Stan.

Not so sure about that, Warnock has a pretty woeful record in the Premier League. For all the talk of eight promotions he also has a string of relegations (five I can think of off the top of my head) and lost his job a few times at clubs near the bottom.

He may be a character but he’s no more than an above average football league manager.

he is probably not an odious man, quite astute and savvy more like. that is a remarkable milestone too.

Im actually going to the game (Luton v Middlesbrough) tonight with a friend who supports Boro and hadn't realised this milestone was occurring. I suppose I'll give him a clap but I really can't stand him. Puts on the "nice guy" act when you just know he's a nasty little git underneath. I don't think many referees , linesmen or 4th officials would disagree with Rowls description of him as odious. Still, asserted, you have to have some respect for someone who has spent so long on the coalface and he has provided some comedy moments along the way.

I have always liked him. Straight talking Yorkie.

Colin’s record speaks for itself . He’s a true football man and he’ll be missed when he finally jacks it in . Anyone who tells Gary Linekar to “ Feck off” will always have my respect . Was it Kev Blackwell who battered Stan vs Sheff Utd?

At the end of one game at the Turf, Warnock was getting dogs abuse from the Longside as he walked back to the tunnel. He took 2-3 steps up the tunnel, before popping his head back out and giving a cheeky wave with a big grin on his face. He loved it.

Top manager.

Stan during his management days was a stubborn fella. A man of principles. He certainly could hold a grudge.

Top football blokes though, both of them.

According to Stans book he wouldn’t deal with an agent because he had a laptop, or a player had an earring. Good old fashioned Manager who’s chapters finished with him ‘knocking people out’ … but there’s reason why Warnock is still managing today - he moved with the game, embraced technology and adapted his man management skills.

He’s an odious little prick because he’s never been involved with Burnley.

I often wonder how Stan feels about Ronnie Jepson working with Colin. I bet his wasn’t initially happy at all.

That's not what I've heard from people who worked with him and under him.

He seems popular enough but it is my opinion based on what I've heard about him, his general demeanour etc that he is odious. It's my opinion.

Hadn't he only managed Sheff Utd in the PL at the time? And he was only relegated because West Ham cheated. Also, I'm comparing him to Laws who'd never managed a PL game and just been sacked in the Championship.

Not a lover myself but, having said that, I certainly think I’m biased by Stan’s opinion. I had a previous general manger, who was a Notts County fan, and thought that the sun shone out of his bottom. His track record speaks volume and without doubt he is a Marmite character, so for that I have respect for him.

He's a bit yer Da really, and some dubious opinions on subjects we aren't allowed to mention, but you can't argue with the longevity.

Also, if it knocks Gradi down a peg or two that's fine by me as well given all we now know about that happened at Crewe

What he also neglects to mention is that the clubs he did manage at PL level could be 1 like you say can't be sure without looking but the clubs he did manage he never really had much of a transfer budget to bolster that win percentage, I know that certain people hold the myth that there's no correlation between success & spending money with the so called top managers but really that's tooth fairy stuff.
