Newcastle future plan

Don't know how much to believe this but at the weekend I read that representatives of Newcastle were looking at plots of land in South London. Speculation has now surfaced that they are going to build a training facility there and fly the team to and from Newcastle as required in order to attract top European and Worldwide talent in the coming seasons as they may not want to live in the NE. I can't see this being sustainable myself but who knows it wouldn't surprise me.

Sounds like one step away from moving the club south. Another MK Dons?

It was also something done by Anzhi Makhachkala, but their stadium was in a dodgy place tbh.
Yes the purists will get upset by this proposal, but assuming the traveling doesn't affect the players, then it shouldn't really be an issue.
Players rarely live in the same town/city as their clubs, not like the old days.
Newcastle used to pay over the top in wages etc to lure better players there during Keegan's first time in charge etc.
Is it sustainable?
Doesn't matter when your owners are that rich, but it's only an hour's flight from Heathrow to Newcastle, so hardly the end of the world, or train takes 3-4 hrs for any non-flying Dutchmen.
If anything I'm surprised it hasn't happened before now.

How will the arab head dress wearing gloating Geordies like it when they are referred to as the South London black stripes as the only connection with the city ?

Heavily linked with Unai Emery, one of my favourite managers.

Never thought of a club doing this, but makes sense. It would certainly help attract the big names like you Mbappes and Harlaands in 5-10 years time.
Signed a good manager aswell by the sounds of it.

Liverpool, Man U. & Man City have managed to attract some of the best players in the world. None live in London as far as I'm aware.
So why would Newcastle have to do this?

And all the Newcastle fans thought they had their club back out of the evil Mike Ashley's hands.
If and it is still very much an if, but if the PL allows them to simply up sticks to South London, then it would make the whole league a laughing stock.
Fine if the Saudi's wish to bankroll a club, although many people rightly have issues with that in itself, but they should be made to start from the bottom of the pyramid and work their way through the leagues.
I can't see this venture getting anywhere, and I for one hope it's given short shrift if they even contemplate such a move.

What a bizarre view, so should all clubs taken over by foreign owners have to start at the very bottom?

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick here. The story is that they want to relocate the training ground not the whole club.

Exactly and with the money Newcastle will be paying these players they can surely afford their own travel to and from the capital.

Depends whether they want to move the whole club lock, stock and barrel doesn't it.
Football isn't like any normal business is it, and these clubs are deeply embedded in their specific communities, once you allow clubs to simply be treated as commodities then the game is dead in my view.
And it's not just foreign owners that can be troublesome for clubs, witness Steve Dale at Bury as a prime example.
The fit and proper owners test clearly isn't worth the paper it's written on, but given the EFL or PL obviously don't give a fig sadly this isn't likely to change anytime soon.

Sounds like the sort of rumour that gets generated in the south. To them it makes sense, after all who would chose to live in the barbaric north. Amazing how this mythology survives, ffs it’s been the same shite ever since the Romans arrived.

still seems bizarre to me, and what benefit they would gain from that isn't clear to me.
If it's simply about attracting star names, well the salaries on offer would do that alone, and as another poster alluded too this could be the 1st step in ultimately setting up a London franchise.
And that's even before all the negative PR they'd attract from this unnecessary flying when we're in the storm of a climate crisis.

Logistically it would make sense having put some thought into jt
Newcastle's closest away game is Leeds isn't it?
A large chunk of their away games will be across the Midlands and south east.
The North west is easily accessible from London anyway.
It would certainly cut a lot of travel time for the majority of away games.
19 home league games a season is easy enough to manage, it will be a few years before they crack the top 6 for European games to come into consideration.
The more you think about it objectively, the more it makes sense for them.
Newcastle is a nice enough city from what I've seen, but some foreign lads' families may prefer to be closer to places like London.

I agree with everything you’ve said there. Apart from the environmental issue (hey it’s COP week

They should showcase what Newcastle has to offer to the world rather than exploring this ridiculous alternative. I've lived in Newcastle for over 10 years now on and off and it's a fabulous City. Each to their own but I can't think of many situations that would make me even contemplate relocating to London.

Newcastle is a great city, a good night out, and friendly locals. A lot nicer place to live than London.
Couple that with its proximity to the Pennines and Northumberland, why would anyone want to move south.
It would be a real slap in the face for the locals, and fans, saying Newcastle isn't good enough to live in.
I'm taking it with a pinch of salt, more likely Chinese whispers than true, but as a fan, if Burnley did the same it would cut the umbilical cord that attaches me to the club.

I think your looking at it from your point of view. Think about it from a multi millionaire footballers point of view. Newcastle is fantastic but the end of the day there’s not many high end things to do, even the best bars and nightclub and relatively low budget.
In relation to it cutting the umbilical cord, Does any Burnley footballer live within an hour of Burnley? I was under the impression most lived towards Birmingham?
Our manager hasn’t even relocated to area after 9 years. It’s just the way things are. As long as they play the home match at the ground don’t think it makes the slightest bit of difference.

Burnley footballers may not live within an hour of Burnley BUT they train in Burnley....that is the pint being raised....I love Newcastle as a night out, don't get there often enough even though we are only about 40 minutes away by bus and train....Quayside is a great night out....

I don't expect players to live within a stones throw of the ground, I know a lot of Burnley players live around Manchester, and that Sean rents a house around Padiham. That isn't the point, they come to Burnley to work. Whether that's training or playing, they are in the community. Many of the off field things they do, such as the Food store, local school visits, Brownhill and his help local businesses, create a bond between fans and players and club. Imo that would be lost by turning your back on your home town, just because you think it isn't good enough.
I'd also question the nightclubs and bars not being up to much, would you really relocate so that your players can go on the **** in better clubs

Some good points there tbh, I hadn’t thought of the expenditure in the local area.
It’s not just Bars and Nightclubs, it’s restaurants, theatres, etc…
I can see the reasoning for making this happen, it probably would help them attract better talent.

Most of the Burnley lads live in either Worsley, Hale, or Wilmslow (as do the majority of North West professional players I'd imagine). These are all effectively suburbs of Manchester, and the first two are easily within an hour of Gawthorpe at most times of day.
Best of both worlds; handy for Manchester, the airport, M6, train to London, decent golf courses, and also commuting distance to work.
