Eddie Howe in Newcastle talks

I like Eddie and barring the decimation of the youth setup, did a fair job for us. Exciting football to watch, but when you need to score 3 to get a draw......
I cant see how with his record, and style of football, Bournemouth were another 4-3 specialist, he can sort out the defence at Newcastle , or get them to score enough goals to win games.
I also think it will be hard to motivate a squad that knows it is on borrowed time. Trying to play for the manager, or new contract under the new regime will be pointless.
This appointment, if it happens, could benefit e everybody else down at the foot of the table.

He could be good for them long term as he’s can coach good attacking play. But this season he might well help us.

Nothing against Eddie when I say this, but I am not sure he’s the right choice, think he will struggle to keep them up and attract players…

Not sure he's quite the big name the Geordies wanted.
Not sure he's a manger I'd want in a relegation battle either.

This smacks of desperation to me; their prime player target not interested and the their prime managerial target not interested either. Perhaps Newcastle is now a toxic brand and no one wants to be associated with it. I know money talks but maybe tainted money doesn’t speak loud enough.

He's only been relegated once as a manger and has been down in the bottom 3 or 4 at this stage of the season a couple of times with Bournemouth and kept them up plus when he took over in 2008 he managed to keep them in the league with a -17 points deduction.

Totally fed up but this whole business. Who the hell do the Newcastle fans think they are? "Passionate fans", yes ok. But does that entitle them to win trophies or want major managers? Get a grip for God's sake.

There’s an airport in Newcastle and one in Bournemouth so he get home quickly when he’s homesick. Not sure he’s the right type of appointment for them though. They’ll need someone who can attract and manage huge egos if they are going on massive spending spree.

He can just do what Dyche does and spend part of the week at a flat in the Newcastle area but keep his family where they are and spend part of the week with them.

Great news for us, no doubts.
Eddie never had AFCB deep in trouble in his survival seasons, he is not a dogfighter, if NUFC are (say) 10 points adrift by Christmas it could be curtains whoever they sign. Their upcoming fixtures suggest that is a possibility (I suspect we would need to win there though for that to have a chance of happening).

He plays a completely different type of football to what Newcastle have played for at least five years, and with a team that is on par with those at the bottom
I like him, think he'll do well if given time, but its asking a lot (even with a stupendous January transfer window) for anyone to turn around this Newcastle team and get them playing football in the timescale he'll have

If I was a bit of a **** player, like some of Newcastles are. I’d be playing out of my skin to gain a bumper new 5 year deal. Some of those lads could double their current deals with a stroke of luck.

Eddie’s a good egg all in all & for sure Newcastle could do a lot worse he could be getting viewed as a short solution pending see this season out & assess at the end whether to extend or part, I’d expect results to improve on that basis as a incentive.

In 15/16 they were in the relegation places after game 14 and up to game 27 they hovered around 15th, 16th and 17th till they managed to win 3 on the bounce and eventually stayed up in 16th
In 16/17 they were in 16th place with 5 games left and had been on a terrible run 2 wins and 11pts in 14 games and under pressure he turned it around in the final run in
In 17/18 they lost 7 out of the first 10 games and were still in the bottom 3 half way through the season
If Newcastle get Howe he might be a complete failure but lets not re-write history like Eddie Howe has never had to scrap around at the bottom of leagues and has never managed to turn around difficult situations

Definitely not the man for this job at this point in the season. Their objective until the transfer window opens should be to amass enough points to still be in with a realistic chance of survival before the big signings come in. That would involve adopting a negative defensive approach in certain games. This is not Eddie Howe’s way. Additionally I don’t believe he could cope with the pressure he will be under from day one.
I hope they do appoint him though, because if they do they will be as good as relegated by New Years Day.

I'm not so sure it's great news for us. We had a good 'new manager bounce' when he joined us and we were talking about automatic promotion at one point (for about a week). If the same happens at Newcastle, then he gets the big signings, they'll stay up easily.

Anyone who takes the Newcastle job will never be anything more than a stop gap for whoever they really want in 2 or 3 years time.
City were taken over in Sep 2008 and Mark Hughes didn’t last long after that. He was sacked just over a year later despite City being in 6th place with just 2 losses. Mancini took over but it wasn’t until 2011 that they won the FA cup and the league title a year later. Mancini’s reward was the sack after losing the FA cup to Wigan.
The lesson is that it takes time to lay the foundations for success and it is usually someone else who steps in to reap the rewards for all the previous work. The Newcastle job currently is a poisoned chalice.

But it’s also having confidence in your own ability. The sky is the limit with them.
Take any manager at most clubs in the PL, even Sean Dyche. The sky is the limit. If he was offered it and rejected because he doesn’t want to be a “stop gap” he’s in the wrong business. If he really believes he puts out a team to win every football match they play like every manager should, then they’ll take the chance. This stop gap talk I’ve heard is nonsense. Does anybody take a job knowing or believing they are stop gap because they don’t believe in their own ability?

I liked Eddie when he was with us. He left for family reasons and that always needs to be respected. It was also 9 years ago and maybe his circumstances have changed that would see him move further away from his long term home to a place like Newcastle to take a new job. However, the fact he looked set to move to Celtic but then that fall through at the 11th hour, I do wonder if he would accept anything not commutable from the south coast.
Conversely, if I was him, I would hold off on Newcastle. They don't seem to have a clear plan so far which suggests some turbulence before they find the right set up.

If you think him moving back to Bournemouth from Burnley was anything to do with his wife then you are sadly mistaken.
I think everyone knows that I didn't like him and definitely didn't like his football which I found slow and boring, but I have nothing but respect for him with the decision he made to go back.

He brought some fantastic talent to the club which meant his successor had a great platform. I certainly didn’t dislike his persona but as I have never met him it would be unfair to contradict CT who did and formed a clear view. As to the football, I am with Tony: a lot of faffing about and some Keystone Cop defending.

Brilliant news if this is true. In my opinion not much different to the last incumbent and probably not as likely to attract the superstar players as some of the big names mentioned previously. Also not sure he will have the backbone to handle the expectations if things go tits up.

Like others I sense this move smacks of desperation by the owners, they were rebuffed by Emery, so have to be seen to act quickly in appointing Bruce's replacement, and EH is available due to being out of work right now.
This could easily go pear shaped for Newcastle if they aren't careful, a squad that fears for it's future, and a manager who's still got plenty to prove in the top flight, also does EH have the tools at his disposal to play his favoured passing game, Newcastle have usually been effective with Rafa and Steve Bruce by sitting deep and hitting teams on the break with their pace, I have my doubts whether a lot of their squad is technically good enough to switch to a possession based game, even Pep at City took a season to implement his style on them, and their squad was packed with genuine world class talent, whereas outwith ASM and Callum Wilson the Newcastle squad is distinctly average at best.
I'd definitely say it's potentially good news for the rest of the sides scrapping at the foot of the PL table.

This is going to depend on the owners long term plans.
They could end up going down and would need a manager with championship experience, which he has.
He's also got experience of being in a relegation fight.
No compo to pay, he had Bournemouth playing good attacking football, if we ignore the holes in their defence if course.
