As the title suggests I’m looking to buy a printer for home. I won’t be printing rafts of pages, just the odd document every few days. I’d ideally like it be able to scan and copy as well print via wifi. I’m not looking to print photographs or anything high quality. The only other stipulation is that it doesn’t take up too much space.

With Black Friday around the corner I’d imagine now is the ideal time to start looking.

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

A home printer was the biggest waste of money I spent.

Cheap to buy but Ink is very expensive and when shops and libraries do printing so cheap it's not worth it.

Recently purchased a HP deskjet 2700e. Does the lot and bluetooth so can be worked from and with ipad.
Down side being our previous desktop pc is only 5 years old and they are not compatible.

HP ink subscription works for me £3.49 a month for more pages than I need. Cheap enough not to notice, with cartridges through the letterbox before you run out. Probably more efficient ways to do it I never give it a second thought.

You can get a relatively inexpensive HP printer that will do what you require.

I've been using the HP Instant Ink service for several years and have no complaints. It's very flexible for example, if you know you have a big print job coming up (normally kids homework project), you can change the plan in advance. They monitor the printer Ink levels and send out new cartridges when required. You send the empty ones back in a prepaid envelope.

Used to use a printer (Epson) with cartidges... was forever changing the cartridges and spent a fortune on them ... when it need replacing we moved over to an "Epson Ecotank" it is wifi enabled (can print stuff direct from my phone) scanner etc am still using the ink that came with the printer 2 years on (got some spare ink bottles and havent yet had to top up the tanks)

I will second the HP ink subscription, I have been using it for about 7-8 years. Ink always arrives well before I need it and it really flexible if you suddenly want to print a lot of pages. So I would recommend an HP printer.

I also use a HP printer with an ink subscription. Mine only costs £1.99 per month and that gives me 50 pages and any unused allocation gets carried over to the next month for free. If you need more pages occasionally then you can just go up to the next price level for a month. And you get official HP cartridges instead of copies or refilled ones. I can print from my phone from anywhere in the world onto my home printer.

Search for HP Envy 6020e. £69 at moment with 6 months ink

Hi I got an HP 3760 from John lewis 2 year garuantee and at the time (black friday ) £29.99 with free 2 cartidges and a 3 month trial of hp ink then £1.99 for 50 pages and roll over of up to 150. get cartridiges sent through usually in good time.

Just buy a 50 quid HP one or whatever.

Cheap cartridges available on ebay for however much, a fiver, tenner for the lot? I can't remember.

"waaa waaa itll break your printer" 1) no it won't. 2) so what if it does, decent printers cost pennies these days.

Cannon MG range are a really good workhorse with reasonable comparable inks (of good quality) widely available at good value.

I’ve replaced two Brother machines and an Epsom with just the one printer for the last two years (were at times both high quality colour and draft printings are regularly printed). Literally printed thousands of pages without any problems

I also have an HP printer,the Envy Photo 7134,and also use the instant ink subscription.Excellent value and a great,versatile printer.

I have the HP Envy 6020e. It's a cracking home printer and works really well either with my laptop or my phone
I works out really inexpensive to run too with the ink smart subscription

Another one here to say that HP Instant Ink scheme is well worth it. Pay on the “drip”and never left short of ink

I took your advice as I'm also in the need for a printer.
After a 15 minute walk to the bus stop, a £4.60 return bus fare, a 7 minute walk in passing down rain to the library, only to find the printer out of order.

So for a cost of £4,60, 1 hour 30 of my time and being now sat in front of the fire drying off I'm now late to get my documents sent off.
