Re: BBC Announce Gerrard takes over at Aston Villa
His first couple of games are Brighton (H) Palace (a) so a reasonable chance of points in those, however December looks a difficult task for Villa, Man City, Leicester, Liverpool & Chelsea, however they do also have Burnley, Leeds & Norwich in the same month.
What's potentially more interesting is who if anybody he'll attempt to poach from Rangers, Ryan Kent would be my guess.

Good news. (For Burnley). No way has he the experience to handle the Premier League where every game is a real challenge.

Obviously the Prem is a step up from SPL, but I'm not sure why he has left Rangers for Villa. What can he realistically achieve with Villa? a top 10 finish? With Rangers he can win titles and progress in Europe. I'd argue it would've been better to stay at rangers and continue to build his reputation and wait for a job with more top 6 potential than Villa.

Rangers are a similar level side to Bournemouth in the champ.Sleeping Cat wrote: βThu Nov 11, 2021 12:15 pmObviously the Prem is a step up from SPL, but I'm not sure why he has left Rangers for Villa. Both vying for the title of there respective leagues. Itβs a big jump but I suspect he will be very successful there, his links will help attract the best young talent in the league. Similar to what Viera has been able to do at Palace

Heβll have his eye on the Liverpool job when Klopp goes and will need a tougher test than the Scottish league to prove heβs good enough.Sleeping Cat wrote: βThu Nov 11, 2021 12:15 pmObviously the Prem is a step up from SPL, but I'm not sure why he has left Rangers for Villa. Done all he can at Rangers,if he does a good job at Villa, the Liverpool Job will eventually be his, which is just what he wants.Sleeping Cat wrote: βThu Nov 11, 2021 12:15 pmObviously the Prem is a step up from SPL, but I'm not sure why he has left Rangers for Villa. A big risk, but there isn't a lot of options for them.
I certainly think he could do a better job than Lampard. Time will tell.

Would Liverpool be more likely to hire a manager who has 2-3 mid table Prem finishes to his name, or the manager of club from a foreign league who has 2-3 titles and maybe some success in Europe? I don't see how finishing 7-10th with Villa for a couple of years leads Gerrard to the Liverpool job.

Re: BBC Announce Gerrard takes over at Aston Villa
A totally different prospect than the lower league he's worked in
I don't think he will improve their chances as they already had a good manager struggling to get his overpaid stars to perform
Grezza must be a good shout for Rangers though

Re: BBC Announce Gerrard takes over at Aston Villa
Genuine question, if you were Liverpool right now would you rather sign Gerrard after winning the SPL last season or sign Moyes after what he has achieved at West Ham?Sleeping Cat wrote: βThu Nov 11, 2021 12:49 pm"Done all he can at Rangers,if he does a good job at Villa, the Liverpool Job will eventually be his, which is just what he wants."

I haven't seen any Rangers games, so I don't know what sort of style they're playing.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: βThu Nov 11, 2021 12:52 pmGenuine question, if you were Liverpool right now would you rather sign Gerrard after winning the SPL last season or sign Moyes after what he has achieved at West Ham?
Moyes is playing a good brand of attacking football which is what Liverpool would want.

I don't think any Liverpool fan would want Moyes. Former Everton & Man Utd, counter attacking football. Club Legend with success in another league? I think they would go with him.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: βThu Nov 11, 2021 12:52 pmGenuine question, if you were Liverpool right now would you rather sign Gerrard after winning the SPL last season or sign Moyes after what he has achieved at West Ham?

Gerrard has been successful in a league that is comparable to the Championship

I think Rangers will be slowing any progress down. Gerrard has done a good job up there but have gone Β£23m in debt already. It might seem small fry to us but it's huge in Scotland with limited revenue sources.
The 4m compo will help them massively.

Re: BBC Announce Gerrard takes over at Aston Villa
I know which of the two I'd prefer at Burnley right now. Moyes is doing a terrific job at West Ham. He's well and truly come out of the wilderness years. You have to wonder why on earth West Ham ditched him for Pellegrini.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: βThu Nov 11, 2021 12:52 pmGenuine question, if you were Liverpool right now would you rather sign Gerrard after winning the SPL last season or sign Moyes after what he has achieved at West Ham?

Re: BBC Announce Gerrard takes over at Aston Villa
Xavi has just gone to Barca after a few years managing in the middle-east. Is that level any better than Scotland?
I'd have thought Gerrard was better waiting at Rangers for another 18months though, then being in the position of winning another title or two, and more progress in Europe. Can't for one second believe he's gone for the money, surely he earnt a decent whack at Rangers, and has earnt plenty already from playing.
Other clubs/ countries give younger managers a chance- some work, some don't.

Comparing the Scottish Premier league with the Championship is quite dumb to be honest..the SPL is nowhere near on a par with the ChampionshipNewcastleclaret93 wrote: βThu Nov 11, 2021 1:00 pmFor me itβs about Levels. Moyes has got a team playing good football in the best league on the planet.

Similar standard of football. If I were to hazard a guess most of Fulham and Bournemouths starting eleven walk into rangers and Celtics

This can only be bad for us, as was the recent change at Newcastle. Expect them both to improve now unfortunately.
This is going to be a tough season.

Managers come and go during the season, every season - it has never affected Burnley before so I wouldn't get too concerned.CaptainKirk wrote: βThu Nov 11, 2021 2:08 pmThis can only be bad for us, as was the recent change at Newcastle. Expect them both to improve now unfortunately.

Of course, he has no coaching experience and that may be a disadvantage in getting a job at this level.
