Might be wrong, but didn't The Rose Room become the Lancastrian Suite? Or something similar.Holmeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 6:42 pmDid that become Annabellas? Had some great nights there.

Was there a nightclub on Bethesda St called 'Millenium'? It was either there or on Brown Street. If I've got the right name, what was it called before that? It's doing my head in trying to remember. Would've been mid to late 90's maybe into early 00's.

Was just going to say Annabella’s was the one above cats Whiskers. They used to have 2 massive dice that they rolled for happy hour - one for the drink and the other for the price. Whisky 30p. !

There was a club there for a while (I know because I once won a 18-30s holiday there). It wasn’t called the Palace, it had an Italian name but I can’t for the life in me remember what it was called.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 6:25 pmWasn't there one called The Palace? further up than the Plane Tree, on the other side. Yep, I had a few nights out down the Ponderosa and it was down Whittlefield way. But to be honest if I had to find the exact spot where it was located I would be struggling now.Volvoclaret wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 6:05 pmWas there one called the Ponderosa somewhere in Whittlefield, or was I dreaming?

Yeah, Pips in the late 70s was really good tbh. I was only walking past there quite recently just behind the cathedral and looked at the building and thought, wow, that used to be Pips.

I was at college in Nelson at the time of the fire and I remember we took time to go and survey the embers the day after it went up. Weirdly. Also weirdly, I never went in the place ever, but my brother travelled quite regularly from Rossendale to The Column in the 70's so it must have been pretty good.

I got to musing about all the other nightclubs that I frequented in East Lancs that no longer exist and came up with quite a number.
Lodestar
Angels
Cats
Circulation
El Trop
Martholme Grange
Ace of Spades/Clubs? in Whalley.
Cavendish Blackburn
The Hop
There was also one in Nelson above the market and one in Colne (Zebra?) whose names escape me.
Any that I've missed or any memories. Over to you.
Brierfield Liberal Club
Coachmakers
Sid’s Cellar
Adelphi
Reindeer
Queens
Bankhall Miners
All very accommodating for underage drinkers

Re: Long gone nightclubs
I ended up in there with a few friends I brought up from London, around 1998. 6 quid entrance and all you can drink. Draught beer and spirits were included, all spirits were unheard of brands and you paid for mixers. Then I spotted Southern Comfort. Spent all night on neat SC. The London lot were gobsmacked how cheap it was for a night out. I could barely walk when I left the place....Red Fox Rocks Socks wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 8:28 pmVIP’s Before millennium I think. Manhattan Heights down Venkyland.
Very good night.
I once talked to Colin Waldron there. Brilliant bloke, pleased I recognized him. Told him I was looking over his shoulder at PNE when he scored that twenty-five yarder.
( mind you, he was probably thinking wish he'd f**k off now)

Over our way we’d go to Bury. There was Topaz which was above the fish market, changed its name to Atmosphere. Also Rebecca’s, that was under Dixons in the shopping centre.
Out on Radcliffe Road was Bennys, regularly frequented by Man Utd players. Bryan Robson almost lived there.

Ha.. remember those in Accy, the classic provincial nightclubs. Funnies / Afrikas was the original 'Star Wars bar', that was genuinely dangerous.HuncoatClaret wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 5:47 pmLar De Dars accy
Rumours next door to the Accy pictures, 3 storey disco bar.
And the classiest place of all, Funnies on Blackburn rd accy, oh and
Also Churchills was popular too, usually on a Sunday night. Then I think the bouncers killed a poor lad on the steps outside and that was it.
Mad how busy Accy was on a Sunday for a while there in the 90s.

Worked behind the bar at Buccaneers in Haslingden when it first opened in 1971. I was a full time student and home for a month. Really enjoyed it. Did a full 12 hour shift once when the owners' daughter had her wedding reception there in the afternoon .summitclaret wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 2:59 pmCranberry Fair on the tops above Darwen.
Can't remember the name, but it was near Dingle Dell near Lango

Astoria in Rawtenstall.
The venue mentioned that was just behind the cathedral in Manchester was called the Jungfrau in the 60's when I was at school.down there. Tony Wilson, who was a couple of years ahead of me at school, was a frequent visitor.

Went to all those. Funnies absolutely dire. Also went Buccaneers in Hasy because it was the only place to get a late drink. Used to wait for the fights, watch Jonah the bouncer throw them out then nick their drinks. Great fun.HuncoatClaret wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 5:47 pmLar De Dars accy
