Off to Dublin this evening til Sunday.

Done as i'm told and left all planning to my mate who is a local having moved back from Prague earlier in the year, but interested to hear any must-do tips?

Do the Guinness and Jamieson's tours.

I loved the Guinness tour. Go to the pub next door and have one of the best pints you will have.

Go see some live music on the night and just enjoy the atmosphere. It’s a fantastic night out

From experience, don't spend the weekend drinking with ex World Boxing Champion Steve Collins, his family and friends. Started Saturday morning when i got picked up from the airport, by Sunday evening i ended up asleep and dribbling in front of a roaring fire in the Anglers Rest pub whilst an impromptu diddly diddly band played.

Did the Teeling distillery 2 years ago, that was good. Just beware licensing laws out there- supermarkets stop at 11 (or before) and close of the aisles, even in the smaller shops. Pubs also don't serve until later. We couldn't buy any Whiskey at Teelings until after 12 (or 12:30) as it was a Sunday!

Depends on what you are in to.

The National Museum (Archaeology) is very good.
A few miles to the north of the city is Newgrange, a very interesting prehistoric monument.
The Book of Kells is at Trinity College. It is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Dublin and unless you book ahead of time will require a wait.

Just south of the river is Temple Bar which is a fun tourist trap (bit like the royal mile in Edinburgh).
The Dingle Whiskey Bar has a great collection of irish whisky and is on Nassau Street next to the Porterhouse bar (also very close to the Book of Kells).

The Delahunt restaurant does some great food, highly recommend.

The pubs and bars in the Camden area are fantastic- much better than Temple Bar

Fade Street Social is good for food if you want somewhere central too

Have a pint of Plain Porter in either of the two porterhouses in town and realise how much better than Guinness it is.

Sinnotts bar, near St Stephens Green, is also good for watching any sport over the weekend.

The Guinness is veey good but I wasn't a fan of the other local beers or lagers.
Food is amazing over there, though you would expect that in any large City.

Don't get a hotel near the Temple bar if you value sleep.
It's party central til the early hours then they jet wash the streets and collect thousands of empty beer kegs from 6am.

Over hyped and over rated. Had far better times in Galway, Belfast and Cork tbh, without all the brain dead hen dos, stag weekends etc.

But each to their own of course. Hope you enjoy it.

Ha staying with my mate and his folks in the Churchtown area thankfully so i think it will be a lot of earlyish back to his local in the evenings

Avoid temple bar, its a tourist rip off, and not the real Ireland. Drink where the locals drink and you can't go wrong. Lots of venues have live music, just a question of looking and seeing what you fancy.

its one of the stops on the Bus Tour along with Guinness Brewery (I prefered the old Guinness brewery tour to the new one with the Skybar)

John Kavanagh - The Gravediggers - best Guiness I ever tasted 25+ years ago and is still raved about on travel sights.

If you want to do something else apart from drinking which seems to be well covered by previous posters. I would recommend a visit to Kilmainham gaol. Very much part of Ireland’s and British history.

We did the Guinness Tour when we went for the Shamrock friendly in 2017 but two to recommend are;

1. Croke Park Tour
2. Kilmainham Gaol Tour

Fascinating history on both tours.

Did you do the Skyline tour of Croke Park Tony?

That has great views across Dublin city and the bay as you walk round the roof of the 3 main stands.

Didn't unfortunately Daz. We did Croke Park on the morning in Feb after the Bohs friendly in 2008. We'd been to Kilmainham on the day before. Kilmainham was on the to do list in 2017 but we couldn't get in. I thought they were two fantastic tours.

I don't drink Guinness anywhere else, but in Ireland it really does taste excellent!!

The women's rugby team are playing Japan on Saturday so i may well take that in as there isn't a whole lot else available sporting wise while i'm there

Guinness tour.
Temple Bar, reasonable at lunch, expensive at night.
For a quiet sit down recovery St. Stephens Green.
Best sports bar is The Living Room, Cathal Brugha St.

Great shouts Tribesmen and the added bonus of Glasnevin, of course, is that you can follow the tour with a trip to the Gravediggers next door- where you will find, in my view, the best pint of Guinness in Dublin.

Personal favourites are Bruxelles, No Name Bar.

Token is good, it’s a retro arcade bar with loads of decent games in, it’s between the Guinness and Jameson’s tours.

Ireland play Argentina at Rugby at the weekend, so Ballsbridge will Be buzzing during the day.

Enjoy, it’s a great city. If I wasn’t heading back from there at the weekend, I’d have met you for a pint.

I think they put an additive in to preserve it for travelling.

You're possibly right. Plus the bar staff really, REALLY take their time pulling a pint of Guinness over there. At times you're convinced they've forgotten you as they're doing several other jobs in between sorting it, but nope, just taking an age to get it right. Must make a difference!

Kilmainham - a wonderful visit, jump off the Dublin tour bus if you get a chance, whatever your politics/beliefs, if you don't start welling up in the Chapel when hearing the story of Grace Gifford and Joseph Mary Plunkett you have a heart of stone!! Then go and listen to the song "Grace" - preferably by Jim McCann and not Rod Stewart!

Last time I was there we went in this bar, it was a few years ago but it was a cracking night. Came highly recommended by a local.

Great pub..... and quieter now, because of the Wetherspoons that has opened across the road.

Another vote for the bleeding horse. Lots of pubs on the same road good as well

When I was in the trade the draught Guinness we bought came from Park Royal Brewery in North London.

I believe that all Guinness is back to being brewed in Dublin. Perhaps it doesn't like being on a ferry?

All things being equal the nearer your drink is to where it was brewed will determine the quality of taste.

Amazed you haven’t recommended Bunsen as the go to eaterie, dandeclaret.
