Looks like another Ben Gibson situation looming.
Played 4 times for Wales and cant get on our bench.
I think Dyche trying to show him whose boss.

Do you?
I think Matthew Lowton has made himself undroppable by his performances and that’s why Connor is on the bench.
I know this kind of thing is rife right now, but it’s Probably best to not go looking for something that isn’t there….

I said the same to my Dad yesterday, potential for another Ben Gibson situation. Unless he came back with a knock I don't understand why Bardsley is on the bench ahead of him.

Yes, very strange if he's not injured.
We can't afford any issues like this.

Fully understand why he is not starting and he probably understands why too. However not to make the bench instead of two people who should not be featuring in the PL ie Long and Bardsley, has probably left the player wondering what he has done. For me we signed him as a wide utility player who can play ideally RB but also wide right midfield. After all we played Hendrick and Brownhill wide midfield and I bet Roberts is more at home than either of these two.Now that we have cover we need to looking to loan out Bardsley and Long in January, thereby saving a wage to be put to better use

It's ok this "showing who's boss" malarky, and quite rightly too, but don't forget he will
be picking up a pretty hefty wage packet for doing sweet f all. On top of that
we've paid good money for him too
I don't think for one minute that that's the case with Roberts tbh.

Perhaps, after his international matches, Dyche let him have a few more days at home in Wales to get over a couple of niggles?

Imagine it’s simply that he’s come back late from internationals, not trained with the team, whereas Bardsley had been.
That or he’s picked up a knock.
No biggie.

Lowton undroppable?
On occasions yesterday he seemed to be struggling to get back to cover.
Roberts would appear to have more pace and stamina than Lowton

I agree with the position is Lowts to lose, and he is having a great season so fair play, but he was poor yesterday.
Defensively Zaha is always going to be a handful, but I thought his distribution and use of the ball was really poor by his own standards, and his positional play .....
Everything about Roberts looks good, only time will tell if he can reproduce that form in the Premier League, but another performance like yesterday from Lowts and surely Roberts will get his chance. Although it is Sean Dyche we are dealing with here.

Completely agree with this. Lowton looked all over the place at times yesterday. Undroppable? We conceded 3 at home.

Both Maxwel Cornet & Chris Wood have had longer journey times.
Obviously if he's got a slight injury then fair enough, but getting back from Cardiff to Burnley isn't exactly taxing on the body or mind, is it?

He will get game time when Dyche thinks he is up to it.
Didn’t Roberts himself say when he signed something along the lines of “I’m not the best but I will the truth the hardest”.
Maybe Dyche doesn’t think he’s technically up to it yet.
Let him make the decision

History tells us that lowton will pick up an injury or two over a season, and that’s when Roberts will have to step up, play well, and earn his place. He knows that.
Although I don’t understand why he’s not on the bench. Dyche didn’t mention any injury and cornet/Wood played straight away after long flights.

Dyche is definitely showing Roberts who is boss. When Roberts signed I seem to remember him saying something about how he wanted to be our player manager and he didn’t respect Dyche’s authority.

Reaching this post was a relief: I was reading through the list and all were discussing how great Lowts had been playing and that his performances made him 'un-droppable' and wondering if i'd perhaps missed something yesterday? Matt Lowton has been superb this season, certainly deserves to keep his place, but yesterday for me was perhaps his poorest performance of the season so far; he got run ragged and I even saw Charlie Taylor coming all the way over to help out on a couple of occasions. I wouldn't advocate dropping Lowts on the basis of yesterday, but he needs to do better next week.

The real worry will come when Lowton gets injured and Bardsley steps in to replace him. Would be like starting Kevin Long next week to replace the suspended Tarkowski

In Roberts introduction interview he came across very humble and down to earth, why would Dyche need to show him who's boss, it's not as if he is a billy big boots. It's not the first time he hasn't made the bench, but been fit enough to travel with Wales. Who knows what the truth is, only SD and Roberts I suppose, but the fact is that Roberts is the future, and he certainly deserves a chance to show us what he can do.
Lowts has been playing very well this season, but I can't get my head around why Roberts isn't on the bench.

That’s why having competition for places keeps players on their toes.

I back Dyche on most things to be honest.
I just find it strange that posters are clamouring for a player to start after probably never having seen him play.
If he’s not on the bench then quite clearly Dyche doesn’t think he is at Bardsleys level yet

Come off it, pal. You spend countless hours on here slagging off individual players that play a lot of games for us. Do you not think they are playing because Dyche thinks they're up to it?
You cannot have it both ways.

God help us if he's not at Bardsley's level.
Lowton's played alright but new signings need to improve us.
Most fans would want an attacking full back on the bench if needed like yesterday to get a win. Dyche might have thought Bardsley could kick Zaha if needed? Or Roberts might have a knock?

I don’t think Dyche has much choice, who else can he physically play in them positions when there is no one else?
Roberts has be signed for a position where we had two players. If Dyche thought Roberts was at a higher standard than Bardsley he would get in ahead of him.
Why would he keep him off the bench for any other reason?

You've previously said you think Cork is way better than Brownhill and you can't understand why Dyche doesn't pick him.
If Dyche thought Cork was a higher standard than Brownhill he would get in ahead of him, no?
For the record, I'm all for debate over our players. But don't come out with that guff just because it's a decision you agree with.

I think this has something to do with the first time he went away with Wales.
Dyche dident want him to go. But he did and played.
Now this crap started with not even having him on bench.

With regards to the Roberts situation, I hadn't really thought much of it as I didn't realise he wasn't on the bench yesterday. I know he'd been on international duty but so had Wood and Cornet and they both started.
Let's just hope there is a valid explanation for this and it doesn't turn into another case of us playing silly buggers.

I think you have answered your own question.
It is my opinion that cork is better than Brownhill not the managers.
Clearly if Dyche did Cork would start, similar to Roberts getting on the bench.

Why are people getting there knickers in a twist about this it could be something between Dyche and Roberts I guess. Most likely, for me anyway, it is deemed he isn’t ready to be involved in 2 games in such a short space of time yet or could he have come back with a slight niggle.

But having seen the lad interviewed both with us and on local TV in South Wales I'd have to say that he looked a million miles from being the kind of lad who needed to be "" shown who's the boss""

When it comes to trying to 'find a slot' for a player - presumably it's tried on the training ground? - I would like to see Connor Roberts playing forward of Lowts; he surely can't look slower/less penetrative than JBG has of late.
