So he was beaten yesterday by an amateur, and has said that amateurs should not be allowed to compete against professionals. Seems like sour grapes to me has also blamed injury for the defeat, surely he was an amateur at one point.

Yes, came across as a sore loser and it’s a shame for the young lad who caused quite an upset last night that all the news has been about Murphy’s stupid comments. If he’s good enough to beat you, Shaun, he’s good enough to be in the competition!

Imagine if Dyche had came out after we lost to Lincoln and said that non league sides have no place in he fa cup.
This is how stupid Murphy sounds. If he is so good then how did he lose to an armature?
What a pillock. Learn from it and get on with it.

Funnily enough, Murphy's views are a bit flexible on this subject. He isn't opposed to amateurs competing against professionals at golf.

If ever the word "hypocrite" is to be used, I thing we have a suitable man to aim it at.

Seems that several other ranked pros agree with him…Williams, Robertson and Selby. Their argument is that the difference between professional snooker players and professional footballers is that footballers still get paid win or lose. Snooker players income will increase as the tournament progresses but stop if they get knocked out.
Whatever the outcome, complaining after loosing is always going to seem like sour grapes and he would have done better keeping his mouth shut.

I sort of understand his point that amateurs don't face the same pressure, but if they've qualified then they've qualified. The FA cup is a good analogy.

His best performance was as Mrs Doubtfire.
Seeing him and Selby get beat will never cease to be enjoyable

Far be it from me to defend Shaun Murphy, who is difficult to like, but I think the argument here would be that this is a qualifier for a tournament rather than the tournament itself. The equivalent would be him being able to actually play in the Open or the Masters directly against Tiger Woods, Mickelson etc with no qualification process.
Support from other pros seems to suggest he has a point and Hearn’s really has made the current set up a real mess. Saying that, it is a bit rich of him, especially considering his substantial career earnings so far and could and should have delivered his comments more sportingly.

But didn’t Si have to qualify in able to take part?
If Murphy had got through the qualifying rounds for the golf, would have have said “No thanks”?

No, I don’t think he had to qualify. He was added as a sort of ‘top up’.
This article outlines it better

He does sort of have a point. That’s the whole point of the Q School and he’s not had to do any of that. Like I say though, he could’ve worded his comments better.

and now robertson (who effectively backed up murphy's rant) has been knocked out by another amateur.
boo hoo.

Indeed these results hardly back up their claim that amateurs aren't good enough to compete does it, and Robertson got hammered 6-2.

To spare the delicate Murphy and Robertson they could agree to fix the draw of every competition they enter and they play each other in round 1

You’ve gotta love how millionaire sportsman feel the need to vent about affects to their livelihood given the problems impacting millions of ordinary people over the last couple of years….absolute clown tbh. The irony being lost on him that the amateur player will have nowhere near his resources. Needs to keep his trap shut and let his snooker do the talking.
