Yes he'd have been well worth pursuing, especially as in the event of relegation we'll almost certainly lose Cornet and McNeil.
And given his contract's up in 6 months we'd have got him for a nominal fee.
Never mind we've always got the talents of JBG and Lennon to fall back on.

Looks like Forrest have jumped in with a 2m bid. Be interesting to see what the player doestiger76 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 7:38 pmYes he'd have been well worth pursuing, especially as in the event of relegation we'll almost certainly lose Cornet and McNeil.

Would have been a pretty low risk signing, for a low fee and relatively low wages. Even if it didn't work out he'd have been a decent squad player. I'm sure he'd offer more than JBG.tiger76 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 7:38 pmYes he'd have been well worth pursuing, especially as in the event of relegation we'll almost certainly lose Cornet and McNeil.

Indeed it will. Forest/Millwall are both mid-table in the Champ, but with a fair wind both could yet challenge for the top 6.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 7:43 pmLooks like Forrest have jumped in with a 2m bid. Be interesting to see what the player does
Maybe the lad fancies trying his luck abroad, and Besiktas offer him the prospect of European football I guess.
2m shouldn't be beyond Burnley's range surely, so I can only assume we aren't interested, pity as he'd have been a good pick up.

Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
JBG has been stealing a wage for 2/3 seasons now, and what worries me is even if we go down we're stuck with him for another year, draining yet more money out of the club, and offering nothing in return.
If funds are tight, then Jed Wallace is exactly the kind of signing we should be targeting, and as you right state wages shouldn't be out of our range.
Put it this way if we were chasing a game I'd rather have someone like Wallace on the bench who might just create something, then JBG who's well past his best, good player for us in his first few seasons, but definitely on the wane now.

Wallace is pushing 28 and appears to have some 400 games under his belt, all at Championship level or below. Presumably there must be a reason for that ?

It the question surely is not whether he is better than what we have, but whether he is better than those we are going to be trying to sign?tiger76 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 7:59 pmJBG has been stealing a wage for 2/3 seasons now, and what worries me is even if we go down we're stuck with him for another year, draining yet more money out of the club, and offering nothing in return.

Yes but that ultimately depends on who we sign if anyone in this window.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 8:04 pmIt the question surely is not whether he is better than what we have, but whether he is better than those we are going to be trying to sign?

Ideal window we get CM, RW and a striker, perhaps offloading Barnes, or more likely Vydra, but if we can only sign one of those for me a CM has to be the number one priority.mill hill claret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 8:14 pmWe doffo need a new right winger ...whether we get one, like you say is a different matter ...also a cental midfielder and maybe sell a fringe striker and replace with better ...
If we don't strengthen in the middle of the park Championship football beckons, but that position has needed upgrading for at least a season, and as yet we've not managed to solve it.

I think lessons will have been learned last window. I expect a midfielder will be a priority as it was then.tiger76 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 8:21 pmIdeal window we get CM, RW and a striker, perhaps offloading Barnes, or more likely Vydra, but if we can only sign one of those for me a CM has to be the number one priority.

Glen Little didn't play in the top flight until Reading signed him. Did very well for them but I'm sure he would have graced the Premier League in his pomp. Sometimes just about the opportunity coming along at the right time. Steve Davis was a far better player than Sean Gregan. One got a chance, one didn't. Not always as simple as saying someone never played there because they weren't good enough.

Just missed out on Hill who went to Bournemouth from Fleetwood, so wouldn't come as too much of a surprise.
In fact that might be the 2 surprises Ben Wicks mentioned us getting this window.
We miss out on 2 of our targets to teams in the division below
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
To be fair we really could do with some more reinforcements in the middle of the park as our current Midfield is a bit Pasta it’s best.

Our signing then not playing new recruits is an issue.Hill wants to play not get games at U23 level so signed for Bournemouth
We need to trust our incomers not sit them on the side for months then expect them to perform well.

In our situation re contacts, probably relegation and re-build needed. To me it's more than ever we need to utilise the loan market. But our history in this has maybe blocked that avenue when we need it most. IF that's the case then it's a massive error.

Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Our previous unsuccessful loans will definitely go against us trying to secure additional loans for younger players. Teams want game time for their loanee's and Dyche doesn't always provide that. The Drinkwater loan was a bit different, an established player on the decline whose parent team just wanted to be rid of him. on top of this, I do think our style and Dyche's rigid team selection is putting some players off coming also.
