Ashes 21/22

With the Ashes about to start next week what do we think the score in the series will be and who will be in posession of the famous urn?
If it had been a normal series, I'd have gone for a convincing home victory, posssibly 4-1 or something along those lines.
However, the preparation for both teams has been terrible with squads only just coming back together, rain pretty much washing away any warm up games and lots of scandals in the background involving both teams, and a late change to the Aussie captaincy.
There is also the possibility that Covid will have it's say in the series too.
The first test in Brisbane is usually a home banker for the Aussies, on the quickest and bounciest pitch in Australia. However, little snippets have been coming out that this pitch may be slower, and greener due to the weather in Eastern Australia, so may bring Anderson and Broad etc right into the game.
I think we'll still come away defeated, but I'll go for a 1-2 defeat with 1 draw and one test abandoned due to Covid!!!

If there are two day night games with the pink ball (talk of the Perth match not being playable due to Covid restrictions in WA) then it gives us a 'bit' more of a chance. Great to have Ben Stokes back although he's obviously without match practice. Can Mark Wood stay fit for enough games? In recent tours we have lacked that extra pace, which makes it a shame that Archer is still out.
Pat Cummins is new to the captaincy role so Root has a chance to outmanouvre him in that sense. Great to see Bairstow showing some form yesterday (Golden duck and 11)...

4-0.
Hope I’m wrong and a couple step up but I can’t see how we score enough runs to win a test match over there.

I'm still not convinced Wood will do all that well in Australia. Yes he has pace, but so does all the state team bowlers that the Aussies face all the time.
Wood is quick, but skiddy, doesn't get loads of bounce and doesn't move the ball loads, he could be food and drink with a Kookaburra match ball.
You look at our bowlers whov'e done well over there in recent history, Jimmy, Broad, Finn, Tremlett, they all either move the ball, or have height and get bounce..
If you look at the Auusie attack, they're all big lads, Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood or whoever and create problems with bounce even if the ball isn't doing much.

England take this. Big shout I know but 1 really can see us stepping up and stokes doing a “beefy”.

All about the batting for me. We just have to stop being 7 for 2 etc and exposing Root early in every innings and expecting him to produce like he has done recently.
I don't think either side is particulary great with the bat, whoever bats slighlty less worse than the other team will probably take the urn.

Just depends which England turn up. The Aussies are no great shakes but neither are we.
Robinson might have a big impact. He averages less than 20 with the ball so far in his short test career.
Hopefully we try the tactic of keeping it as tight as possible rather than Wood bouncing them out. They like to score quickly at home.
That could be their downfall

I also dont see us scoring 350 plus enough to really put any pressure on, yet again huge pressure on the bowlers to try and contain the aussie batters

Love to see England beat them ( not something you would ever read from me ) as don't like the Aussies at all .

Think this is spot on

Aussie win. The preparation or lack of it as usual these days will play a big part.

Just can't see past a home win alas, England are simply too brittle batting wise to be able to put enough runs on the board to allow our bowlers to build pressure on the Aussies.
3-1 Australia, England usually turn up for at least one of the tests, and if 2 are played with the pink ball surely we'll be able to win one of those.

Think we will do well to win a test 3 or 4-0 for me.
Weak top order and their bowling attack is better added to the fact how hard it is to win there says it could be a long tour.

Wondering what the attendances will be like. Energy from a crowd can sometimes produce the odd unexpected outcome through a session or even a day. Is there still the anticipation in Australia for an Ashes series or has/ will covid take its toll on their enthusiasm?

Would love to see us beat the Aussies on their patch but our top 3 are nowhere near international standard

Several to nil for the Aussies unfortunately. We do not have the ability, the technique, the patience or the heart to go out and bat for 2 days and put a big score on to chase. Too often we lose wickets before lunch and end up with Root batting against the new ball rather than the openers seeing it off. I would go for another 5-0 whitewash but given the weather recently we may scrape a draw if it rains.
Love to be proved wrong however.

2-2 with the first test a draw given the forecast if there’s two day-nighters.
3-1 Australia if not.

The Aussies haven’t played a test match in 11 months.

It’s a shame Tim Paine has gone, don’t rate him and Carey is a better batter. Most of the Aussies I’ve spoken to don’t think we will win a test and I can’t disagree with them. Our batting is weaker than the Aussies, their bowling attack is stronger and they are hard to beat at home. 4-0 assuming one test is rain affected

First test will be a draw. Weather isn’t promising. Plus because Queensland doesn’t do daylight savings, they suffer badly from bad light early evening. Therefore if there is rain, they won’t be able to extend play, unless floodlights are allowed.

This.
It will be the usual tiresome series in aus where the home bowlers aim for the batsmens heads more than the wicket, and the little mouthy cheating **** with the wife-beater moustache scores lots of runs.
There again, there's only one Glamorgan "player" likely to take part, and he'll be on the home team.
