Lowe in at PNE

Post by claretburns » Tue Dec 07, 2021 6:03 pm

Preston have announced Ryan Lowe as their new manager. Lowe joins after taking Plymouth from League Two to 4th in League One and previously winning promotion from League Two with Bury. Apparently plays an attractive style of football and works well on signings to a strict budget, let's see how he does at Deepdale.

Good luck to him! I miss our games with PNE, much more enjoyable Derby than Blackburn

Imagine if they'd got promoted when they had numerous chances.

Grates my gears when a manager leaves a club, in a challenging position, to improve their own position. I understand they are all professionals and don’t give a flying fish about their employers, still grates.
Darren Moore did the same, leaving Donny for Sheff. Wed., Donny have gone backwards since and I expect the same to happen at Argyle.

Don’t forget the cowley brothers at Lincoln. I just don’t see the appeal in taking over Preston when he is doing so well at plymouth.

Conversely, professional football clubs don't generally show much loyalty to the managers that they employ and I suspect that had Plymouth instead had a disastrous start to their season, they'd have by now replaced Lowe in just the same way as which perhaps 25% of clubs have done to their managers this season. As a football manager You're as good as your last 10-15 results, so Ryan Lowe's stock is currently high and he's been able to secure himself a big pay rise and probably a long contract term; if he was 'loyal' to his club and then delivered a dozen poor results, he's out on his ear and nobody wants him; clubs can't have it both ways.

I think that is a little unfair, if he stayed at Plymouth and lost his next 5 games, he could be facing the sack anyway, no loyalty shown by clubs to managers struggling, so why should managers show loyalty to clubs?

Also as a side, he is from Liverpool and all his family live in the Liverpool/North West area and this reportedly was a big reason for his decision to move to Preston.

From a personal point of view he's probably got a better contract that will be paid out if he gets sacked so what's to lose?

In life there is something to be said for seeing things through. When talking about a manager we often say stuff like "he's got promoted x times" but getting Plymouth up to 4th in November isn't an achievement he can put on his CV. There's a lot of demand for instant success in football and when you're doing well you're suddenly hot property. Adam Phillips was doing really well at Morecambe, he was taking corners, free kicks, penalties, loads of responsibility and loads of goals and assists, Burnley were more than happy to give him a chance a level up at Accy and he jumped at it but I do wonder if he regrets going there to be a bit part player and not staying and getting promotion.

The league watchers on Quest have hinted Preston may have got the wrong man and left Plymouth laughing.

Wasn’t he at Bury when they were paying all their players absolute bank ahead of other teams in the Division?
