McNeil

One of our best players, no doubt, but absolutely no use to us with his back to goal. So often he picks the ball up facing Pope.
We need to get him hugging the touch line again if we want to start creating more chances this season, albeit the balls he did play today were very poor by his usual standards.

Hes our best player, and I’d not criticise him but he’d certainly excel playing at a side that suited him.

100%, he will go onto bigger things and be excellent. We are hindering him so much.

Wonderful first touch, always has the ball under his spell, works his socks off for the team but he’s not the player he was when he came into the side. Personally I’d rather have that guy back.

I get the feeling he wants to play like that himself and chooses to drop deep, play more centrally and pick up the ball from the back four.
I would never criticise him for wanting the ball but there is very little impact he can make in those positions.

The worry was when he broke into the team that his attacking instinct would be coached out of him. Is that where we are now with Dwight?

Dyche just needs to tell him to hug the touchline & get crosses in!

Take the claret tinted specs off, he wouldn’t get in any other side in the league.
Offers nothing and very lightweight.

I don’t think it’s been coached out of him , I just think with early season goals coming down Taylor’s side he’s been asked to play in a certain way.
We have certainly looked back to our best defensively in recent games and it’s a shame that we don’t have central midfield players that can create. It’s always seems to be McNeil who gets the criticism from a certain section when we don’t create anything , as was the case today

Today McNeil had the highest pass completion rate, the most key passes, the second highest number of touches and the most crosses

Thought he played well today. Becoming one of our best passers , finding men with space. However the best chance today was at the end when Charlie Taylor managed to work the ball to the byline and flash it across goal, where Rodriguez was inches from scoring. This is what we need to see Dwight doing.Taylor proved to be our best attacker

There was a point in the first half when McNeil span away from a couple of West Ham players and was running down the left side, looking to release a pass into Wood who should have made the run into the open left channel, but instead Wood decided to hide behind a defender and mark himself out of the game and shirk responsibility for receiving and dealing with the ball. McNeil then gave the ball away and the crowd moaned at him.
Unfortunately McNeil realises he's playing within a shite system with players who are terrified of having ball possession, so he's having to try and do it all himself and losing confidence when it inevitably doesn't come off.
Some of our senior players and management staff need to look at themselves in the mirror and decide what they're offering us at the moment.

All down to opinions mate, but cant agree with that. Dwight has been missing all season and I really do feel for Charlie covering the whole left hand side while Dwight wanders midfield, or when Dwight is on the left he just does a a 10 touch 360 degrees turn and inevitably passes it to Charlie or back to Mee. I dont know whether he has been instructed to go central, but he has dropped a lot of his creativity, although all those passes back to our CB will count as a pass completion.

Ok, let’s break this down. What do you expect McNeil to do?
Watch back todays game and pay special attention to where he receives the ball and the opposition players.
You will note that because our passing is so rank bad he is suffocated almost instantly.
If we want the best of McNeil he has to be given the space to do something.
It’s not a coincidence the decline in Wood and Mcneils output and our rapid decline in ability in CM. Once that area is resolved McNeil and wood will make a turn in form because they will have space and time.

Then again Cornet is also in this team, and Wood and... ah forget it, best to ignore these people.
clearly a throw away comment with nothing much to back it up.

Ok, at the same age Pope was on the bench in league 2. He’s a good player but he has found his level (lower end premier league player).
McNeil has over 100 premier league appearances and will inevitably move onto greater things.

We will see, he is a lot older and his career has stalled the last couple of seasons.
IMO he was poor In his last two games. Let’s just hope it was a blip. Certainly too early to say he is our best player.

No it isn’t.
It’s blatantly obvious to anyone with at least one eye that Cornet is our best player. No arguments, no discussion, no “yeah but, no but” it’s just a true
story. McNeil is a very good player, trying his hardest to make a difference in his position, but Cornet is better and so is Pope.

Difficult to know what people want from McNeil, he has excellent control and balance, beats a man easily, crosses the ball well, good passer and hard working - and he’s not even our best player.

Dwight has disappointed me this season. When was the last time he had you on the edge of your seat or out of it
Amongst others he needs to hold onto the ball more and have a positive impact on games more often
It’s criminal that none of our players can hit the target from a free kick
