Some interesting stats?

Just checked out some stats from our last 6 games.

In the last 3 games (West Ham, Newcastle, Wolves) we had 25 attempts on goal
with just 3 on target. Scored 0 goals and got 2 points.
In the previous 3 games (Palace, Chelsea, Brentford) we had 35 attempts
with 17 on target. Scored 7 and got 5 points.

Does appear to highlight where are recent problems are.

Yes, we have stopped picking up points at the rate we were previously. Unless we start to pick up more points again I think we will struggle this season

Yes we need to stick the ball in the onion bag, it's not rocket science is it.

Tellingly, Cornet had a real off day at Wolves and was out of the vast majority of the other games.

Of course, it's a very small sample but no doubt in my mind this has played a large factor.

Last 3 matches we have conceded 1 and that was unfortunate. Our defence is looking back to their best now we need to sort out the top end. With all of them but Cornet looking totally bereft of confidence I think a signing is the only solution and no it is not the delivery. Vydra has missed two great chances in the last 2 games and JRod should have won it on Sunday. Top strikers don’t miss them.

I don't think anyone would suggest that Vydra and JRod are top strikers
but even top strikers miss more than they actually score.
Not sure what the ratio would be for top strikers but guess it's probably
near to 1 in 3. That's got to be a decent return.

There's a case to say that Wood is a decent striker having scored double figures or over for the last 4 seasons.
But he's looking bereft of confidence at present and I suspect not getting as many chances this season as in previous seasons.
Cornet may well overtake him this year if he continues but let's hope Wood can manage to find the net
in the next few games starting on Wednesday against Watford.

I'm not sure signing another striker would necessarily improve matters especially
if we weren't creating many chances for them.
The stats for our last 3 games suggest that we're not creating enough chances
and that's probably because we're having to defend for our lives - so to speak.

I refuse to criticise our strikers given the lack of service they get.

Seem to recall we are a team that have been quite ruthless with our chances created in recent history.

Other observation is that when we look defensively solid, we can’t get up the other end as a result.

Likewise with no pace it makes it easier for opposition teams to keep a higher defensive line

Comparing our last 6 games to the season as a whole we have actually improved a lot, only Norwich and Man City have had a better upturn in form. Based on form in the last 6 (or even 10) games we would stay up.

I did it a few years ago, it updates itself now.

Number of goals scored in comparison to previous seasons at the same point (15 matches) where we have survived very comfortably:
16/17 15 goals
17/18 14 goals
18/19 14 goals
19/20 21 goals
20/21 10 goals
21/22 14 goals

So we are basically bang on with previous years. Obviously conceding goals is where the problem lies.

Haven't you always maintained that to stay up it is a good defensive record that is required rather than being able to score goals?

Exactly, that's why I made the point about conceding goals which has been our undoing so far. We've led in seven games this season and we've not been able to see out any of them.

Regardless of whats behind them they are strikers, need to be scoring goals. Make chances for themselves....

We're actually fairly in line with previous years on conceding too.

16/17 25 goals
17/18 12 goals
18/19 32 goals
19/20 24 goals
20/21 20 goals
21/22 21 goals

Having studied these stats, I've realised the best result of the season was at Everton.

We understand we're going to conceded IRO of 20 goals by this point and we managed to put three of them into a 7 minute period. If we'd allocated a few more of our goals conceded to this game we'd have stood a better chance of clumping together our allotted goals to be scored in order to pick up a few more points.

Exactly! we've taken the lead in 7 of our 15 games thus far, and yet only won 1 against a poor Brentford side on the day, however if or when we get back to defending leads then we'll quickly the table.

14 points dropped from winning positions, that's nearly a point a game, and only winning a couple of those matches would see us about mid-table, I guess this is one of the fine margins SD keeps referring too when he states we're not far away, and he's correct, however until we start racking up a few wins the pressure will continue to grow.

14 points dropped from leading. If we’d got half of those points no-one on here would be worrying. But look at the table now. After tonight’s results (Leeds - titter ye not 🤣🤣🤣) we have games in hand on all around us and by far the best goal difference in the bottom seven. A win tomorrow now would make everything look a lot brighter and Watford, Leeds (🤣🤣🤣) and Southampton will seriously be having toilet problems. The next three games are an opportunity. Watford is more than winnable. Villa away is tough but City they are not. Everton at home is suddenly looking winnable seeing as we owe them one for the mad ten minutes at Goodison and they are looking sh!te just now. Then United at OT. That’s a free hit as they say but it is also one of our better hunting grounds as far as the big six go.

Onwards and upwards. Anyone for Europe? Oh sorry Mr Dyche, didn’t see you there. Okay there’s no need to get mad. Alright, alright, I know you have no passport, calm down.

PS. I typo’d United and it came out Untied. It actually seemed kinda apt but I corrected it less the the more pedantic on here missed the joke and started criticising my spelling n
