Anyone with a long memory remember this game? Rochdale had two players sent off.
January 1990, just lost to Stockport as well. Not the best of seasons.

Certainly do Dave, the first time I took Mrs SA to Turf Moor. Sat in the Bob Lord for the first and only time.
By complete coincidence Rochdale had Milner and Ward playing that day, our respective mothers maiden names.
She has been since bringing better luck!

Was this not the game when they had our keeper in goal for them, Williams? If so, was it not the season after, or am I conflating two different rochdale 1-0 home defeats?

I think the 1-0 with David Williams in goal for Rochdale was in the Championship winning season.
Again my memory is sketchy but think he played in the game at York which clinched the title

The game David Williams played in goal for Rochdale was the Championship season ( 1991-92 ), on 21st September 1991, and another 0-1 home defeat ...
I'm fairly sure this would not be able to happen nowadays, as I think it's a rule that " loan " players cannot appear against their contracted Club ..

He did finish the Championship season in goals.
Saved a penalty at Rochdale in the last game when they needed to win.

Seemed to be a theme around that time, the FA Cup 2nd round tie in December 1993, ended 10 v 9, with two Rochdale players sent off, including one for a foul on John Francis when the ball was at least 5 yards away, Mark Monnington was sent off for seeking vengence on the culprit! The game also had an own goal and two penalties ...

I think I've been watching us longer than I realised then, as I went on the 9 man defeat one, and just assumed in later years that it was the same game as the Williams one, because I thought my first season was 91/92....am I older than I thought I was?

I think their keeper was called Keith Welch. He played a blinder and saved a penalty.
Can anyone confirm/correct this?

Well I had managed to shut that horrendous day out of my memory, thanks for that Dave!
