I like the Holland's cheese and onion pies they sell on the Turf.
None of the supermarkets up here stock them.

Hhmmm, each to their own I guess. I think Holland’s Cheese and Onion Pies on the Turf are filled with volcanic gloop….
Haffners Cheese n Onion on the other hand are immense.

I'd like to try a Haffner's cheese and onion pie but, again, they don't sell them up here, and they send them by mail order.

You'd have to be a total wrongmo to choose Hollands over Haffner's.
Haffner's chicken & mushroom is my favourite one of theirs, followed by meat & onion.

No contest.
Haffner’s pies are as good as any pie I’ve ever had. Holland’s are slop.

Hey, I don't know Haffner's pies. I worked 2 summers in early 70s at Hollands Pies. Interesting experience. I can still remember the hand and arm movements to pick up 4 balls or pastry dough as they came out if the machine and place them, with a little downwards press with your knuckles into the individual pie tins. I think we had to make that repetitive movement many times every minute from around 8:30 in the morning until around 4pm in the afternoon, maybe 6 hours per day, knocking off for breaks, 5 and a half days a week. Yes, Saturday mornings was part of normal week back then.
It's an "eye opener" working in a food factory. I went off Hollands Pies for a few days after starting there. Then, I remembered that I used to enjoy them, especially the "meat and kidney pudding" and we could eat as many as we wanted for free!
A neighbour and friend of my Mum got me the job. She worked at Hollands a long time. I went to her funeral maybe 20 years ago. God bless her, she wore her Burnley scarf in her coffin.

Neither
Holland’s meat and potato have hardly any meat
Haffners meat and potato is the most under seasoned pie I’ve ever eaten. Doesn’t have any taste

My late father used to tell me that you never saw a cat or a dog within 2 square miles of the Hollands factory. I never proved him wrong. A tasty pie - but Haffners are a different league.

Haffners are like Man City whereas Holland's are about like Padiham.
Cissy Green's up there with Haffners, though.

You have hit the nail on the head there. Both Holland’s and Haffners have their markets. For value a pack of Holland’s pies from a freezer shop are great and taste ok and hit the spot when required. For quality pies it just has to be Haffners.

Haffners snake and pygmy is unbeatable.
Hollands are only suitable for after beer fodder, when you don't give a monkeys what you're eating.

The peppered steak on the Turf by Hollands is alright.
But Haffners all the way for the rest.

Haffners all the way, although I must admit if Hollands are on offer at 50p at the supermarket, I do pick up a few to have for a pie and peas dinner treat.
Only down side to Haffners is if you fancy one you need to go and drive to get them, and both shops are in places I rarely go past.
Haffners Chicken and Mushroom, and Steak are tremendous I always have to get both as I'm still undecided on my favourite.

Is Haffner's still in family ownership? I was at secondary school ( CGS) with Mick Haffner in the late 60s. He emigrated to Australia many years ago but still follows the Clarets I believe.

Holland's meat and potato pie and cheese and onion pie fillings look absolutely horrendous, no idea why I like them (in a butty with a bit of brown sauce preferably). Can't get Haffners, but would hope they are better...

Haffners, no contest.
Hollands are your standard factory-produced stuff. Acceptable, but in no way exceptional or even notable.
Haffners on the other hand, are a delight - start to end.

Just a thought if anyone travels to the home games and is in or around town before the game, you can purchase Haffners pies at the butchers on the Kierby Block

That’s Haffners.
And I’m not sure how we can do a comparison between them and Holland’s. I doubt you’d find better pies than Haffners in the Burnley area.

Haffners are better if you want to eat the pie. Hollands are better if you want to use the filling as cavity wall insulation.

To be fair I think Hollands Pie’s would struggle against any of the local bakers. Even in Hollands marketplace though, Clayton Park are seriously good quality opposition.

Slightly unfair comparison, while Haffners are naturally a better pie , any local butchers /pie shop that can’t exceed a mass produced pie would be a poor show indeed .
Holland do a decent regulation pie , their steak is “6/10” decent as is the meat and Pot . The cheese n onion needs an upgrade though .
