General Havelock - Accringon Road

Great little pub, used to be packed in the late 90s early 00s. Lots of characters, pub of choice for the old Suicide Squad I’m led to believe. Remember an FA Cup final one time the place was packed as was most pubs on FA Cup final day was a big occasion sadly not anymore.

Yatefield

Seemed every doo was here when I was a kid, memories of bacon fries and a can of coke and a room filled with cigarette smoke.

Grew up round the Accy Rd area so I wasn’t born a thick neck Most the ones I have memories of are round there used to be loads that have sadly gone. Peeps, Scarlett, Fleece, Alma. Used to be a cracking drink from pub to pub.

All of the above mentioned are memories of trouble

The Manor Barn. Might as well have grown up there!

Waterloo was my fav for a few years .

Scarecrow ( was then renamed Coaching House) had my best days in this pub with great mates, great entertainment and fantastic laughs. and The Coal Clough Coaching House which was a great diversion on Karaoke night.

Mitre, stork, Waterloo, hop, Nelson and the borough.

Burnley used to be an amazing weekend out on the lash.

Griffin on Rossy road.

Wasn't there a `running pump` too somewhere? I thought (incorrectly) it became the Usha.

Seem to remember one called The New Inn on Cog lane, opposite what i remember as the Brooke Bond building near to Gannow top.

Broadswords and Empress grill, two town centre pubs that were bang average.Adelphi,Reindeer up at central station,great for a few beers prior to getting on a special train,Carlton was another one up thatbend of town for away games

Dickie Pinks was a class little boozer lots of regulars and locals. Shame it closed, a lot of the people who went in there now drink in the Angel which is another cracking pub but thankfully not lost.

Coal Clough House was decent on a hot summers day lovely surrounded by woodland, nursery I think now ?

Hob & Gill- Used to play snooker there and have a few underage pints. What did it used to be called ?

Red house, had some good sessions in there when Patey had it. Rough as rats but they are the best pubs.

The Junction has gone now to I believe, about 50 of us every weekend in there when we was about 17-18 basically kept the place running

I think you are correct. I think the New Albion became the Running Pump before the Usha.

Finest pub crawl going. All gone!

Never got used to not passing the Towneley Arms on the way over top bar; it used to be a beacon on a cold winters travel home as usual once it became a meal venue it lost its character and couldn’t survive when the Chef retired I believe.

And right at the top the Deerplay (but that isn’t Burnley).

The Bull’s Head (Bull’s Nut) on Buccleuch Street just off Coal Clough Lane. That was someone’s front room!

They used to put the away fans who had come off the train into an escort to the Cattle Market for awhile.

Plane tree first pub on the pub crawl into Burnley.
Was the Duke of York? (I think at the top of Gannow roundabout) officially in Burnley). There was one on the bacup road before crown point Hargreaves arms?

Corporation across from Lower tentre, used to love going from park view around "club land" and under culvert.
Also doing half nights starting at top of syke or top of Burnley wood and seeing how far you could get, brilliant times

oh and the Stanley round from the Woodman on Oxford Rd

One or two in the centre along St James Street, which I never went in (too young) but were still open when I was a lad in the late 50s, early 60s: The Clock Face, The Masons Arms, The Dog and Duck, the Fox and Pheasant on Cow Lane, 5he Corporation Arms round the back of the old market hall, the Dog and Partidge on West Gate, the New Market Hotel on the market square, the Thorn Hotel, the Well Hall. As I said I haven't been in any of these pubs for a drink but I do remember seeing them as a kid; I always had a fascination for pubs even way back then.

In my 50's now my drinking career started up Accy road about 1978 (was about 14/15 Wood top Alama Fleece and the Peeps remember the Clarion club and Yatefield
Into town about 8pm first stop Jimmy's (St James bar) when it was just a thin bar and next door was the carpet shop. Then the Empress grill (Card shop now) Broadswords on the market balcony then up to the Carlton Standish Street . Then the Concord before the Cats/Circ /Hop/Savannahs /Angels wall required different levels of being sober and dress code

Black Bull on Marsden road and The Lanehead on Kibble Bank. Spent many a Saturday afternoon in the Lanehead playing Chase the Ace whilst supping a few Thwaites smooth. Black Bull was great on a Thursday night. Disco night. Full of friendly girls too

Loved The Sidewalk, Corporation was good Friday after work, the Wellington was cracking on match day, the White Hart and Carlton were easy going, used to work with a lad whos dad had Dickie Pinks....a real place and always enjoyed the Irish League....great memories with some great lads, like the places mention a lot of them gone RIP

The pub at the top of Gannow was the Derby Hotel, the only Duke of York I can remember was up Colne Road way.

Has the Stanley gone? Good pub at one time.

Rose and Thistle was always my choice before the game. Con club on Plumbe st was a good meeting place too.

Also remember setting off for Liverpool away in the cup from the Havelock early one Saturday around 7am....think we stopped off at Brownhill on the way home....sticks in the memory
