NFL vs Premier League players Covid statuses
NFL clubs have to declare any player that has tested positive for Covid and they get put on the unplayable list for clarity in the league.
Is it time the PL start doing this? So many grey areas in how they’re doing things.
Maybe allow them to sign free agents outside of the window for 1/2 week contracts? There’s probably no quality out there but sure there’s some players with PL experience immediately available.

I’d imagine putting a player that’s no match fitness straight into an 11 wouldn’t end well, you’d likely get about 30 minutes out of them.Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 10:12 pmNFL clubs have to declare any player that has tested positive for Covid and they get put on the unplayable list for clarity in the league.

Re: NFL vs Premier League players Covid statuses
The league's or the FA should currently have a list of players who've tested positive for Covid, plus the results of every test done.
Then they can ensure no players return early to their clubs training ground etc.
The NFL method wouldn't work here.

How would it not work? Where’s the transparency? X player has covid and is available to return to training on X date. It would clearly work.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 10:31 pmThe league's or the FA should currently have a list of players who've tested positive for Covid, plus the results of every test done.

Nope, because Covid doesn't effect everyone the same way.Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 10:36 pmHow would it not work? Where’s the transparency? X player has covid and is available to return to training on X date. It would clearly work.
A player can maintain a level of fitness if they've only got a mild case of Covid and be back at the club within a couple of weeks.
An OOC player has a lower level of overall fitness, lacking sharpness etc.
It could take them 2-3 weeks alone just to reach the required level for the club to want to play them.
NFL players tend to be like Ronaldo, they'll have a personal trainer, dietician, cook etc so their fitness levels won't be that far out and their game is very much stop start, more so than football which is continuous for 45 mins, short break and then back out.
The ball is in play in football for an average of 60 mins out of 90.
In the NFL it's 11 mins out of 2-2.5hrs and the players play either defence OR offence, rarely both, so their fitness levels don't need to be as high as a footballer here.
It simply couldn't work like it does in the NFL

Players miss games because of illness, nothing new. Just because it Covid we've no right to know in the same we don't if it was Hemarioids, Migraines or a UTI.

If Covid is the primary excuse being used to call off games, then the governing body of the sport should be made aware.CombatClaret wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 11:44 pmThat's quite the invasion of someone's privacy and private medical records.

Of course, when they don't pay their cook, the cook might go and tell someone that the boss has a fake covid jab card.
The nfl has more issues (like the above) with covid and vaccinations the the Premier league - or it did until the last month or so. They have different rules in the workplace for jabbed and non-jabbed players. Some have been quite vociferous about not getting jabbed. I had Cole beasley in my fantasy side last season but didn't retain him as he is just about the loudest anti-vaxxer - and, surprise, he now has covid. Aaron Rogers has been a bit of a surprise, though.

Whatever the NFL do, we should do the opposite, the mere mention of that sport and its dealings sends shudders through my spine.

Clubs are informing the FA when they can't field 14 or more players.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 12:07 amIf Covid is the primary excuse being used to call off games, then the governing body of the sport should be made aware.

Your suggestion was there should be a list of which players have an ongoing medical condition. I was pointing out that's private, in the same way your employers don't publish a list of who's off work with herpes that week.

I have to provide a sick note from the doctor if I'm off work for X amount of time, 7 days or more.
Someone with Covid has to stay at home for a minimum of 10days, so this would fall within the current rules.

Re: NFL vs Premier League players Covid statuses
there are numerous rules/guidelines for covid, trouble is so few have adhered to any of them that the NHS and the public in general have no chance of making any gains. Selfish dullards who think they know better than scientific experts will continually flout the directives and compound the problems we all face.
No question about it, the British populace are numbskulls.

A 'fit for work' note does not have to disclose your medical condition. Only if the doctor considers you unfit for work. Because what you have... is private.
I don't know what your trying to argue, you can't go around publishing who has what medical condition footballer or not.

I'm just discussing it that's all.
If the club aren't saying which players are ill with Covid, then we won't be able to implement the above suggestion of having temp players.
I don't see an issue with the league knowing, because they're the ones authorizing the cancellation of games, but we all know that there are clubs taking advantage of this whilst they've got injuries to key players.

If clubs are lying about anything it will be about the severity of something like a muscular injury.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 12:59 amI'm just discussing it that's all.

Not the thing that is 100% testable for.
That's how after Palace's appeal was rejected they only made one change, a lot of 'injuries' got better after finding out they had to play.

Anyone who thinks the NFL are doing great with COVID has little idea about the NFL. Saints played against the Dolphins last night, the Saints had 19 players out with COVID and were playing with their 4th choice Quarterback.
Of course they lost, integrity of the competition is quite rightly top of the PL priorities, nobody wants to see farce games like the NFL currently has.

Full list of NFL players with Covid positive tests, date added and removed.
Plus the rules for what to do with players who're positive and if they're vaccinated or not.
All public knowledge and it doesn't seem to cause much of an issue In regards to private medical information....

Footballers availability is shared regularly and widely. Managers talk about injuries and illnesses frequently in interviews and clubs usually publish their words. There are whole websites and social media sites who monitor this information and publish it. Nobody bats an eyelid about GDPR.
This month fans (and several clubs now) want a bit of transparency when games are getting called off left right and centre and confidentiality gets trotted out as if it’s something that actually exists in football.

Big difference between a manager letting the media know about an injury, and the league legislating that their medical records be made public knowledge just so you know why a game has been called off. I also doubt its legal.agreenwood wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 1:32 pmFootballers availability is shared regularly and widely. The biggest difference between the NFL and the Premier League is that the NFL has a million times more leverage when negotiating conditions of employment. The NFL injury report has always been bonkers imo and I really don’t see why footballers here would give in to similar in the same way they wouldn’t give in to a salary cap, mandatory trades and a million other things imposed on NFL players.

Dyche literally provides an update on every unavailable player at every pre-match press conference and also answers questions fairly candidly in post game interviews.
Minute detail isn’t required, just a list of players with the word injured or illness next to their names. At the moment it’s something of a mystery as to who is actually missing these games.
Newcastle named 8 subs on Monday. Aside from the injuries to Wilson & Saint-Maxim, it’s not obvious how they went from 19 to 13 players one day later. Nor is it obvious he extent to which this is being scrutinised by the PL & EFL. Publishing basic information may prompt some much needed scrutiny.
It’s interesting that several football clubs and managers are saying the same thing now. Clearly there’s a feeling within the game that clubs are abusing the situation to have games called off when they are missing key players.

It’s not really new though is it? We traditionally get these updates from the clubs and media. The issue is that now some clubs appear to be more circumspect about sharing the details, presumably because they don’t want journalists testing the claims when they are trying to have games postponed.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 1:48 pmThe biggest difference between the NFL and the Premier League is that the NFL has a million times more leverage when negotiating conditions of employment. Re: NFL vs Premier League players Covid statuses
Yes, it's massive
One is an update on what people have already worked out or gleaned through simple measures. (And quite frankly if the player didn't want that information passing on from his medical practitioner to his manager then legally they would have no liberty to do so)
The other is a requirement to make a person's medical record public knowledge. Quite frankly its none of our business
The league could quite legitimately ask for independent reviews of said players' ailments in order to authorise a postponement. Or players could be happy with us all knowing. But how can you possibly think this can be forced?

It should at the end of the day an employee needs to provide an excuse for the reason of absence to the employer for many reasons if he’s Covid it’s within the interests to find out exactly who this employees been mixing with so everybody can get tested transparency is key, if I rung up work sick & didn’t provide a good enough excuse it’d be judged as if I was skivving or couldn’t be arsed to turn up.

Re: NFL vs Premier League players Covid statuses
It would be new for the PL to report injuries so regularly. Compare Dyche saying players are “on grass” for weeks on end to NFL teams having to report how much everyone practices each week, how likely they are to play and why.agreenwood wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 3:01 pmIt’s not really new though is it? There’s also the NFL allowing roster exemptions for positive Covid players, which the clubs need. Premier League clubs can’t sign replacements from the street like we’re seeing over there.

Interesting that we again list every player missing through Covid and every player missing with injury on the club social media again tonight.
Shame not everyone is as transparent as us.
