Pace & a comment about Dwight’s crossing.

Do we know who this Ex-Burnley player who’s commenting on Dwight’s crossing? Paul Smith... maybe he’s on here? Is it weird that Pace liked the comment? 😂 Dwight is a strong lefty, we know this. Sometimes can seem one footed...though his right can dance circles around me. When he plays against Trent AA he looks like the best winger in the world though IMO. Pope looks like prime Buffon every time we play Liverpool in recent memory too.

It is Paul Smith. He himself had a fantastic left foot, but from memory his right foot wasn’t the best, though he could kick with it.

Pace is very active on twitter tbh, likes many things etc. Smith is right but Dwight needs ti find his left foot again. Watching the 2021 goals video I posted yesterday reminds us all of just how bloody superb he is when he is firing

I don't understand how a professional footballer that's been coached since childhood can still only use one foot. Just think how much more of a threat he'd be if he could cut inside and hit it with his right foot.

Maybe they should show Dwight footage of Dave Thomas who was that two-footed he took corners with his left or right. Or show him Trevor Steven. Or Leighton James. Or Robbie Blake. The opposition couldn't nullify any of these by keeping them on their weak side because they didn't have one.

Just sign a bloody decent, right footed, right winger and play Dwight on the left.

My old man would always say that every professional footballer should be able to use both feet. And I agree.

They spend most of their working lives kicking a ball.

Or at least play a first time ball 20 yards to a team mate when required.

There's 1 or 2 of our team that are incapable or refuse to do so, that extra second or 2 can make all the difference.
Momentum can be lost.

And the number of times I see strikers miss a pretty much open goal, because they turn it onto their 'stronger foot'.

Every player can use both feet, they've just got a dominant one.

If you're demanding to know why they can't use both feet with the same amount of skill, why can't you write with both hands?

I cannot understand the desire to play Dwight right and MC left. Cornet would be perfect to play on the right - makes runs in behind, brilliant weak foot so can use both and a goal scoring winger. Dwight suits the left as he can stay wide and use his left.

Although I must say, I thought Dwight was very good on the right back United.

This obsession with players needing to be equally good with both feet though is ridiculous, always has been and every time it comes up people seem to forget how many truly two footed players there are.

Nope, if it's so easy to use both feet equally well, it should be the case for writing etc

Yes people Witter on about coaching etc, but it doesn't matter, players will always have a dominant foot and it's an automatic thing to switch to it

I'm not sure anyone is saying that players should be equally good with both feet. It's obvious that players will have a weaker foot. The point I suppose is how weak or strong that foot is.

Robben only had one foot but was one of the worlds most elite wingers throughout his career. Funny that he played on his ‘wrong side’ too according to some folk who can’t wrap their heads round inverted wingers.

Inverted wingers is nothing to do with the point being made.

The point being made is (which is obvious) is that a professional footballer should at least be able to pass with his 'weaker foot'. It's nothing to do with players who have been successful without using it - Ryan Giggs a prime example. It's the fact they spend all day training and never seem to bother at least attempting to pass with the other foot.

We don't expect McNeil to plant a 35 yard screamer in with his right. We expect him to be able to move onto his right and do something.

Dwight passed with his right foot, does it regularly, he just isn't going to knock in a sweeping cross with it

I think the fact that his one footedness gets noticed by so many so often suggests it is a bit of an issue. Just the ability to make a simple short side footed pass with his right would help him keep the ball moving more effectively.

The examples of one-footed players that could get away with it all have one thing in common - they were all quick. Dwight isn't.

I can write with both hands, though sadly I was never much of a footballer with either foot. :(

I'm guessing the ability (and my lack of footballing ability!) came from my Dad: When he was younger he could sign his name with both hands at the same time and you couldn't tell the two signatures apart; then while you were still trying to get your head around that, he'd sign his own name with one hand while writing your name with other.

It pops up regularly enough and it's bizarre everytime it mentioned.
The same tired argument about players being predominantly one footed.
If we had a decent predominantly right footed winger then it wouldn't matter how weak McNeil is with his because he'd be out on the left where he's best suited.

I compared it to something ridiculous to highlight how ridiculous this topic is.

Training someone to be twin footed isn't deemed a necessity in football, it never has been or it would be more common.

So long as a player can do the basics with their weaker foot, that's all that matters really.

The only dual footed English player I can think of right now is, by all accounts, Mason Greenwood and he's at Utd, which is where Dwight would be if he had the same ability.

Anyway, I shall look forward to the topic being raised again because it's inevitable that it will.
