A genuine question for those who still think we'll stay up

Where are the 7/8 wins we need going to come exactly?

We've played most of the bottom half sides now, and have a paltry 1 win to our name. 21 games to play including many against the big 6, plus Leicester, Villa & West Ham, so what gives you the belief that we can amass a good haul of points out of those games, because even with the most optimistic outlook, I struggle to see where the required points are coming from.

If you'd have asked me a month ago whether we'd stay up or not, I'd have been cautiously optimistic, but the damaging defeats at Leeds and Newcastle have given us an almighty mountain to climb in the remainder of the campaign.

So now all the festivities are out of the way, time for us to kick the new year off in style.

And a huge carrot for the boys, as 3 points today will haul us out of the bottom 3 for the first time this season.

And surely 2022 can't be as bad as 2021 can it.

COYC PL Clarets. :)

I just had to check the PL table again, the way some folks are chucking the towel in already, you'd think we were marooned at the foot 10 points adrift, whereas we sit 18th, a mere 2 points shy of Watford as it stands, and with games in hand on ALL the sides around us, including 3 in hand on Newcastle & Norwich who are below us.

Now this is not to say we don't have issues, and 1 win in 16 has to drastically improve, but to state relegation is inevitable is far too early in my humble opinion. Are we in the midst of a relegation fight, absolutely, but we can and will get out of trouble, let's show some faith in the manager and squad who've served us so well for several seasons, and keep defying the odds.
A day is a long time on UTC 😀

Well sadly I was wrong, and it's going to take a real run of form to haul us out of trouble now alas.

And even if we did pull off the odd shock result, there's an equal chance Newcastle, Norwich or Watford will do the same.

We can still survive, but we've left ourselves very little margin for error.

We're down. Accept it and enjoy the rest of the season.

It's hard to be optimistic after losses to both Newcastle and Leeds where we've handed a lot if the momentum to the opponents ourselves.

There's still plenty to play for but it's looking increasingly like our boys don't want to or just can't get there for another seaaon

Well normally I would say we will get some surprise results as our players were fighting for the cause.
Now most are not as they are off.
So cannot see a way out of this.

I really thought we'd win today which would of kicked us on, its still not done but the way the seasons going I honestly couldnt tell you where the points will come from or how we'd get them...I just know that if you roll over you are definately done...so long as you keep fighting you give yourself a chance....Im hoping come the end of the season we will of been less **** than 3 other teams...admitedly that feels far from certain at the moment but Im not giving up hope yet

we aren't staying up. Play the players who are going to be here next season and get them game time, ditch the rest other than Cornet

Alas, we are one of the worst 3 teams in the league and defo going down.

Leeds released Aaron Lennon 16 years ago…and he was our main creative hope for most of the game today…and our best player on Thu. That says it all for me…

Our only hope is that Norwich, Newcastle and Watford continue to perform as badly as in the first half of the season and Burnley show a slight improvement.

There comes a time when stats dont lie. One win in 20, and the lowest scoring points in all four divisions for 2021. Sadly I think it will get worse as the confidence and belief is draining from the team. The PL is unforgiving. We have been found out with a team that is one of the oldest the PL has seen. Sadly much as I respect our manager, he has been found out too in terms of style, tactics and general savviness. On a positive those clarets that suffer from mental issues have at least 5 months to prepare for what is likely to happen. I put myself in that group

Good point, except they play Newcastle and Norwich in their next couple of games, so at least one or two of our direct rivals are likely to create a gap to us, yes I'm well aware we've got games in hand, but on present evidence does it look likely that we'll win any of them, you'd have to say no.

All teams can have barren spells in the PL, take Brighton for example, they went 11 games without a win not long ago, but Burnley's barren spell has lasted for too long now too just be a blip, and although we might turn it around, and engineer the great escape, each passing week it's looking less and less likely.

This is it, however shite it may sound.

Watford and Newcastle aren't going to be getting 7/8 wins either.

It will be one of the lowest points total for the bottom 3 ever in the Premier League at the end of the season.

Having said that, where's our next win coming from?

If Newcastle spend wisely they'll get themselves out of trouble. Apart from Norwich and Watford there's not another team we'll finish above.

I tend to agree, hence why today was so important, even a draw would have kept Leeds within touch, and we should have at least earnt that.

We have these threads every season.

It’s nonsense talking about 7 or 8 wins needed given we could draw every game and stay up. When you add that to the fact that the bookies have 3 other teams at evens or odds on to go down it is indeed a pointless question.

There’s 55% of our season left and what on Earth the fact that relegation rivals play each other soon has to do with anything is beyond me given we have 4 games against them ourselves left.

Another premier league team won 7 out of the last 9 games in 2015 after having 19 points after 29 games. There’s really no need for these nonsense threads after every defeat.

For a bit of balance we have had to play both Newcastle and Leeds away when both of those teams had extra rest in the run up to the game. Things like that can tip the balance in a 6 pointer and it would be nice to have that sort of advantage at least when the other games are scheduled. Certainly given that we were scheduled to play both Watford and Villa with similarly less rest in the build up. We have proven on a number of occasions that we can pick up points to stay in this league.

Spot on, the bottom 3 will be

Watford 30 points
Burnley 27 points
Norwich 25 points

Brentford looked poor when we beat them and I fancied them to go down but recently they have revived. However, it's a long way to go yet.

The next couple of weeks will need to see us improve our starting eleven, by at least three signings. It will also give us a clear indication as to where our board see us next season. Twenty one games left roughly twenty seven points needed. Hopefully yesterday's game is our Everton moment.

Not sure it is spot on when someone says we will finish above Watford and Norwich and then you predict us below Watford. There is nothing I have seen this season that has been a worse display than Wolves away or Everton at home in 2018 when we finished on 40 points whilst losing the last 3 games of the season.

In the two previous seasons we've been relegated we had 5 wins in 2009/10 and 3 wins in 2014/15 after 17 games unlike the 1 we have after 17 games this season, in 2009/10 we won 8 games in total and 7 in 2014/15 we won't win no where near that amount of games this season

Not with this management team, I have never seen us so bereft of ideas, organisation, and determination , having so many players out of contract definitely doesn`t help but even with new faces Dyches head is so far up his own arse he won`t play these straight away it`s not in his DNA and unfortunately that is what`s required, a fresh game plan, better ball retention, players upping there individual performances. All massive asks which I don`t think are going to happen unfortunately.

As it stands if we was to beat Watford tomorrow in a rearrangement fixture we would be out the relegation zone with a game in hand on them and the other two below them.I’m trusting the manager,we are also a better team than Watford over 38 games apiece imo.

And if we'd have won at Leeds yesterday we'd also be out of the relegation zone, however yet again in a crucial 6 pointer we failed to turn up.

Judging us on yesterday's shambolic display I'm not convinced we would beat Watford especially if Cornet misses that fixture.

It might have been a 6 pointer to us but it wasn’t to them had they not got any result against us a penny for a pinch of sh1t they would have got something somewhere else, it’s simple Leeds are far too good to go down we got our bottys slapped & I think they’ve got half a dozen missing, I’ve maintained from the start Leeds won’t go down as I did with Newcastle the season before, some teams just have too much about them.

No I don't think they will go down, but we could have at least put some pressure on them with a win, now they are almost our of sight.

More conjecture. Leeds have less points than Bournemouth had the season they went down. Let’s all just relax and see what happens. We have more experience than pretty much all of the rivals in the bottom half of the table. Anyone from Palace down can get relegated quite feasibly this season if you look at past performance in previous seasons, All this noise and panicking does nothing to help our cause particularly as it often starts to appear at matches.

I know, I don’t listen or read statistics I go off what somebody says & what actually happens & if that’s repeated accurately from the same person a track record of that person being right & knowing what they are talking about starts to develop & i take notice of that more than any statistic or anything else.
