Yep. And they can easily swallow the lack of resale value…. Still a good player.

Please can no one come on with the “ only sign for Dyche” stuff. It’s boring.

Bet he can't believe his luck, can still do a job but at 31 to get that move....what do you reckon he'll be on...100k a week?

Was excellent for us. After his time at Madrid he will be very experienced at the highest level. Makes our survival that much harder

Yeah I reckon so. It’s been said he’s the highest paid player at the club and I can’t see the likes of ASM, Wilson and even Shelvey being on less than 70-80.

Looks increasingly likely, but he has not signed yet; Another club (not suggesting us) could still turn his head yet.

It's a great move for Tripps and definitely strengthens Newcastle. However he did start to lose his motivation a bit under Howe here and it was SD that got him back on track as the player himself acknowledged.

I wouldn’t dream of suggesting we move for Tripps. It suits neither us nor Tripps to do so; he’ll be coming to us once he’s gone down with Newcastle anyway.

If not he might be able to lend us some money at reasonable rates

Newcastle will stay up easily. This is the first of a few signings to come this month. They will have a squad that can more then easily stay up. To stay up we would have to be better then 3 other teams. Norwich, Watford and one more. The next team in the league is Leeds, 8 points ahead of us and the team who on Sunday showed they were streets ahead of us, not just in quality but in determination and effort as well.
If people really think we will still stay up they are deluded.

Having a quality forward thinking full back… settling into a wobbly defence, possibly others likewise finding their feet and getting used to playing together under immense pressure. Newcastle are anything but safe, even if they do try to buy their way out of it in the next few weeks.

Good luck to him. Despite people reading far too much in to his interview ages ago and taking it as gospel, these players only get a 10-15 year shelf life in the game (15 if you’re lucky). Good on him for following the money.

Trippier, Aubameyang...
Newcastle creating the football equivalent of The Expendables, back for one last mission.
Stalone at Centerback I'm hearing.

Not 12 million, that's the upfront fee. This will rise to 25 or 30 million with add ons

Seriously good signing, but I think Newcastle will need to play 5 at the back! Tripps is brilliant going forward but defensively, in my opinion be found a little suspect?

Won’t Trippier play until he’s 36 or 37ish?
I think he’s one of those players who will play until his body totally gives up. Plenty of life in the not so old dog!

If I’m looking to shore up a leaky defense and have a giant pot to spend do I buy Trippier? That’s the question I’m asking myself. Must be 10 other more solid full backs available at half the price.

Good luck to him, I don't begrudge him a last big pay day. Sid Lowe was very complimentary about how he'd done in La Liga on the Graundian pod. It got me thinking about how many former players have gone on to win the league in other countries. I suppose there will have been a few in Scotland but to have won La Liga, especially for a club outside the big two, is a huge achievement.

A great player who we gave away to Spurs for half his value
But Newcastle have a very poor team away from Saint Maximum they have very little quality .Tripps wanted to come home and get well paid so good luck to him , he will need it playing with that defence

But we didn’t give him away did we? He had a release clause that meant we were obligated to accept the bid. And he wouldn’t have signed the contract without it.
Agree that what we got was way below what he was worth but there was precious little we could do about that.

Trevor Sinclair on talksport is absolutely adamant that Trippier isn't moving for the money
Something about the project, Newcastle being a great club steeped in tradition etc.
Honestly that bloke hasn't got a clue

Assuming he’s the only defender brought in & in the summer they’ll further strengthen, in a worse casebook scenario he’s only going to be playing in a poor defence for a short period of time if any time, Newcastle will go all guns in improving all positions if not in January in the summer.

Like in all walks of life, you sometimes think a career change might good and the money you've accumulated could sustain you for a period while you try something different.
Yet in football players just seem to want to get as much money as they can, even though they can't spend anymore, once they've got the houses/house they desire, along with 2/3 cars they've always wished for.

They have financial advisers in their ear telling them their careers are finite and they can't all get a job in the media when they retire at he age of 36 to sustain them through another 45 years in life so...fill your boots

That lifestyle needs to be sustained though after they've retired
There isn't enough room for them all to be in the media, or become coaches/managers.
They're a long time retired and there are numerous stories about former players who've lost it all through bad financial advice/decisions.

If they cannot survive on the interest they receive then they have massively overspent. Footballers will use the “bank managers” within the banking system that we only see passing by. Each bank has a specialist dedicated to large investment accounts that operate from within the established banking network… my cousin has just retired in his forties and is building a 2m house in preparation on the back of such commissions….
Very few footballers can spend the weekly interest they accrue, let alone dig into their savings. They are propelled into the super rich and their families should be in clover for generations… such is the overpayment of footballers.

Oh how I wish I could believe that; i think that Newcastle can and will buy themselves out of the relegation zone by the end of January, I suspect that Tripps is just the first of half a dozen new faces at St James' Park. That said, if they were to spend 100+ million and agree commensurate salaries but still get relegated, how would that play out with regard to FFP rules in the Championship?

If bringing in half a team in January bought success everyone would be doing it? Why don’t they… because it will take the remainder of the season before so many players can understand each other’s game. Newcastle could sign the eleven best players in the world this January and have more chance of creating a record points haul in the Championship next season than having the co-ordination to avoid the drop this.
