Currently watching his Glastonbury performance from 2000 on BBC2 and he's singing Ashes to ashes.
I was 13 when
it came out and I remember it like it was yesterday.
That was the one that made me listen to everything else he had/has done.
Legend.

I watched that around a week before Christmas having recorded it last summer. I can confirm that I wasn't 13 when Ashes to Ashes came out though.

For me every album from Space Oddity to Scary Monsters is a classic.I personally then thought he lost his way.But I picked up some of his later albums up when I saw them cheap on CD.I never really played them or if I did it was on in the background and I didn't take them in.A few weeks ago for some reason I played Heathen and was took aback how good it was and would say it stands against anything of his golden period

Five Years/Drive In Saturday/Sound & Vision .....refuse to slim it down any more than that but I could probably pick another 20+tracks from throughout his career which are also absolute beauties. Did someone say over-rated ? Ha ha ha ha ha

You're right about Heathen . The Next Day and Blackstar are also superb. He really did have a late career renaissance.

I've just listened to Let's Dance. First 3 tracks are great; Modern Love, China Girl, and Let's Dance. Produced by the brilliant Nile Rodgers.
So many different musical styles over the years, a real geniuis. Apart from Dancing in the Streets with Mick Jagger. That was absolutely bobbins.

Nearly opted for Moorage Daydream myself.....Such a great tune and even today it still sounds kind of, well, sci-fi ! It's pretty easy to play to a passable standard on guitar too ! Also love Soul Love...in fact pretty much every song on Ziggy is superb.

A comment like that is open to challenge.
He was behind the curve with the whole androgynous thing. He used that to get himself established. Nothing wrong with that, plenty of others did it, but he was by no means the first.
Some of his riffs were very reminiscent of others. Jean Genie and Blockbuster spring to mind, but both probably owed their opening riffs to the Yardbirds.
He also reputedly had a taste for young girls, again he was by no means the first

Sounds like you were there and one of the lucky ones CT. I was simply part of the huge TV audience, but a mate of mine from Rawtenstall got a ticket and went and said it was the experience of a lifetime, although when he'd first bought the ticket he wasn't even sure what the event really was or if it would be any good. If memory serves me correctly, tickets were originally freely available and easy to get before the publicity suddenly took off and it was only in the last week or final few days that people realised it was probably going to be something extremely special. At which point tickets became as sought after as gold dust.
