After that, I’m as clueless as SD seems to be. Or in the same boat, depending how you look at it.

You really hate Brownhill. Brownhill will start as he should as he is literally the only athlete we have in midfield and that midfield is lightweight and will get over-run.

Think it will be the lads who played at Leyland last night as the Toon Arabs will have bought all our first team squad by Saturday.

Won’t happen but like to see 5-3-2 with Roberts and Taylor as wing backs and McNeil playing in the middle behind the striker.

I want to try and retain possession. That’s why I have left him out.

Stop getting overrun in midfield 4-5-1 without the ball, 4-3-3 with the ball.

Yep we need to get the crowd fired up. From what I've heard about him hopefully he'll bring some much needed energy and positivity. Just hope he doesn't do an Ade Akinbyi and get sent off after a few minutes!

After watching yesterday I would say zero chance he starts within the next two weeks.

Lowton (for now) Collins Mee Taylor
JBG (only as there's no-one else) Stephens Westwood Dwight (I suppose) but give him license to be creative.
Lennon (in the number 10 role) it worked reasonably effectively at OT.
Jay.
We need to start scoring goals as wins are now becoming essential, so try different personnel, and more importantly formation, it might not work, but in our current plight it's worth a go at least.
Tarky needs dropping for until we resolve whether he's leaving in this window or not, and Collins is a perfectly adequate replacement alongside Ben, Stephens deserves a start, although whether he'll last the full 90 I don't know, but the midfield needs a shake-up, and short of new signings he's the best or indeed only viable option we presently possess.

Shame. Was hoping he'd been subbed after 60 mins with an eye on the Leicester game. Suppose he has been hospitalised though relatively recently.

Yes I was quite underwhelmed by him last night to be honest. Against a poor U23 team he struggled to impact the game and was huffing and puffing towards half time.
As you say it sounds like it was a really nasty bug so he might need the equivalent of a pre season (3 u23 games to get back fit).

Just glancing through the thread and seeing the same old names of Brownhill, Westwood, Stephens, Lennon, JBG cropping up, I am suddenly feeling depressed again. Is there something wrong with me?

No there isn’t, but unless we are willing to give youth a try we have few other options.
Genuinely I am not even sure who I would play at CM as I think they will all struggle to pact the game.

No and this just encapsulates all our problems in a nutshell, CM has been a problem position for what 2-3 years, and yet we've still not acted to resolve it, is it any wonder we are where we are in the league, when such obvious holes aren't being plugged.
Numerous posters including myself, and I'm fairly yourself have mentioned how vital it is we recruit in the engine room, and yet there's been zero action by the club or SD.
And if we do suffer relegation this failure will be one of the main reasons why.

The game against Huddersfield made it even more apparent. Playing against a team in the league below and we were passed of the park. Our midfield were chasing shadows in the last 20 mins

I have spoken to loads of clarets fans and all agree he is now a liability and should not be playing, don’t care what the stats say at the moment. Newcastle apparently want him, he wants to go, so get rid and buy someone else.

with no Evans, Ndidi or Soyuncu Leicester are struggling for height, if ever there was a game to play our big lads and get Roberts hurling those long throws into the box then this is it. So I'd go
Lowton Collins Tarks Mee Taylor
Roberts Westwood Stephens Mcneil
Wood Jay
Play for throw ins and free kicks

If Wood is injured play Rodriguez
McNeil back on left side of midfield
Cork to replace Stevens after 70 minutes
Tarkowski rested after two poor performances

If Tarks is having bad games then what are the people that have worst stats having? Surely the play is to drop Mee if we are dropping any CB. He’s leaving in 6 months as well and he has considerably worse stats

Tarks is out of form and should be dropped. Lowton is doing ok but that’s not good enough in the position we are in.
The stats you are looking at are meaningless at the moment.
We have good replacements on the bench and now is the time to bring them into the team
