Harsh on Lowton but if Roberts is fit I’d like to see him start. I think we need fresh ideas. He has pace, is excellent going forward and could cause havoc with his long throws.
What are your thoughts?

yes - Lowton (among others) has been bloody awful for the last 5-6 games

It would be good to see exactly what he can do over a full game.
Making Lowton a scapegoat though for the inadequacies of others could be
seen as a trifle unfair, even though he's not exactly pulled up any trees lately.

I'd like to see him play more. He is a good player. Even in a more advanced role down the right perhaps for JBG. He has a long throw, a good cross and good speed. I'd give him a run.

Lowton has been alright.
Looked way off it at left back in the cup with his mistakes costing the first goal but he was out of position.
New signings have to be better than the ones occupying the place or something is badly wrong between the manager and recruitment.
Get him in when fit and see how he does.

Lowts has been ok imho, I'd still swap him or more likely JBG for Roberts though

If ever a sentence summed up Matt Lowton it’s “Lowts has been ok”…..he’s always been ok, no better, no worse, just ok.
He’s been ok again this season but in a team crying out for some new impetus in a position where we appear to have a genuine option for change, he’s a player that can and should be left out.

Like others have said Lowton as been OK and that's about it.
We need to start creating and if Roberts can offer more creativity going forward then he must be seriously considered

If he’s fit then he should start for me, if he can’t get into a side that isn’t playing particularly well at the moment, not winning and conceding goals then he never will and we will have another Gibson situation on our hands in the not to distant future.

We know there’s not a chance Dyche will drop and old favourite and that’s partly the reason why we are where we are now.
16 goals all season isn’t just going to miraculously change by itself, we need the personnel to change it and Roberts along with Taylor suddenly offer us threats down both sides.
Nothing against ML, he’s been a wonderful signing for us but I think it’s time for a change. He was trying to track back recently and he looked like he was sprinting in slow motion.
We may have an exciting full back on our hands here, who we may lose if he doesn’t even get an opportunity to show what he can do.

I may be wrong, but my suspicion for a while has been that Roberts is one of those players Dyche has had signed for him rather than someone he wanted. As such, I don’t see him being given a proper chance.

Lowton would be the scapegoat largely because there's someone who appears more than up to it chomping at the bit behind him and in that respect he might feel aggrieved, but I definitely agree we should try anything and everything right now because if something doesn't change we're going down without question. It's a bit like dropping Hart for Heaton (which seemed like a blame game at the time) or bringing in McNeil because of injury. You never know what it might lead to.

Roberts is a full Welsh international, he created the second most chances in the Championship last season from full back and possesses a bullet long throw.
While Lowton has been ok, something has got to change, could it be that Roberts extra energy (far younger age) to get up and down the wing gives the team a lift? Could it be that we get a goal or two from his long throws? Seen as though a fair portion of our goals this season have been from set pieces…
He is also used to playing wing back and is quite attacking which to me suggests he could also be worth a go on our right midfield instead of JBG. Granted he’s been injured then ill, so its been a very stop start beginning to his time here but he must be eager to get out there now and impress.

I now he came to us injured and then got ill but any other manager in the PL would have played him half a dozen or more games by now. Convinced if Wales had played an extra 3 games he would have featured. SD's loyalty (or maybe fear of making big decisions re team selection), has I am afraid cost us dearly. We are on our knees-Roberts has simply to start either RB or wide midfield

He has only managed to make the bench 4 times in the Premier League this season due to injury/lack of fitness/illness.

If we're going to do system or personnel change then there are fewer less pressure games than Arsenal away, certainly compared with trying something different against Watford at home.
Collins and Roberts in, JBG and Brownhill wide, McNeil behind Jay. Try it, see what happens.

If Robert’s is fit and chomping at the bit, for me it’d be JBG giving way not lowton. Lowts has been pretty good - certainly one of our better performers.
Don’t expect any changes lads & lasses. We only change things when it’s forced upon us…. One of the biggest failings for me. Don’t forget, the only reason we got to see Dwight was because of injury. He then made himself undroppable by his performances. He’s now a shadow of his former self, I’m sure people can work out why. The only reason we got Mee at centre half and Wardy out left was because of injury despite almost EVERYONE in the entire universe knowing that it was needed. We only dropped Barnes due to a breach of club discipline, despite him playing terribly for the previous six months. I’m sure there will be someone calling “coincidence” on that, but it reeks all the same.
Recently, when Leeds were hit with Covid and injuries, they opted to play and introduced some youth into the side, and they reaped the benefits. Young fit players hungry and wanting to show what they can do, like they did against us. We couldn’t match their effort and their desire. We choose to apply for postponement. We just don’t trust the young lads. If they aren’t good enough, then what’s the point of having academy status to develop them? If no one is coming through, if no one is being developed enough it’s just been a massive waste of money. It seems we are an academy in name only.
There will be NO changes.
Burnley will play 4 - 4 - effing 2 and we will do it with the same players that have led us to where we are right now.
I am a supporter of Dyche, if you were to ask me who I’d like to try to manage us out of this, it’d be him, but I’m not so blind that I can’t see his stubborn streak may end up costing us this time. That, coupled with our ageing and technically limited players, and our inability to bring youth through a system designed to do exactly that, and a refusal to “experiment”, to make a small change and trust players like Roberts in a role that, let’s be honest, isn’t all that alien to him, will see us slide away without so much as a whimper. May all be far too late now anyway. Lots of different things all falling into place at the same (wrong) time has us all but gone.
And don’t get me started on Tarkowski starting ahead of Collins.

Fully agree on Roberts he simply has to start. When we signed him we already had two RB's and the talk then was he could also play as a wide midfielder which he did for Swansea a number of times. He is the only right footed wide midfielder we have who could play wide right (sorry but Lennon should not be near the first team) and we persist in playing JBG who at the half way point of the season has still to make a telling cross. It seems our manager is unwilling to make small changes and is answerable to no one

I didn’t suggest he’d played badly (although his last two outings have been poor)
My meaning was that he’s in the past. He’s not committed to the club or the team and he’s leaving either this month, or more likely in the summer.
Collins is the future and he should be in the side now. He’s a capable centre half as we have seen in his appearances so far, and it would show potential signings that if you come here, you come here to play not sit on your arse in the hope that someone leaves soon.

Definitely time for Roberts. Lowton is a classic comfort zone player. Great form when Roberts first signed as if he had to prove himself again . Shocking in last three games and partly responsible for giving a goal away in each game. Part of the old school whose time is up. Now is the time for eager younger players who want to prove themselves and build a career.

Do believe we need to start Roberts now, but for JBG, not Lowton.
The break means everyone’s fitness is reset. Nobody has match fitness so that can’t be a factor. Slot him in a 5 man midfield on the right. Defend like our lives depend on it. Try and Nick one off his crosses / long throws.

Unfortunately I just don’t see what Roberts brings to our starting eleven. He’s not going to be able to get into the positions to create the chances he did at Swansea. Mainly due to the fact we will be defending for at least 60 percent of the game.
As another poster said, this is very much just rearranging the deck chairs.

Well we don’t know that until he’s given a go. Plus his long throw might come in handy for a side that relies quite heavily on set piece goals. Wouldn’t you agree?

Agreed.
You cannot drop Lowton for me, he’s has been one of our better more consistent performers. Not difficult to stand out from the rest this season I know, but there you go. For me it would signal desperation and I would think demoralise the lad, who I think is s confidence player.
JBG on the other hand has offered very little.
I didn’t see much of Roberts at Swansea, and of course I’ve seen nothing of him for us. But if he is as good as I keep hearing in an attacking role and going forward I think it’s worth experimenting. I get the feeling Dyche persevers with JBG because of his defensive contributions, but Roberts will certainly give you that anyway.
I thought this of Gibson. What is Roberts doing differently or showing in training from what he was doing on the pitch for Swansea?

The little I’ve read about Roberts on the Swansea forum suggested that he was most effective further forward.
A key weakness for us this season has been JBG’s inability to create much. I’m not saying that Roberts is the answer but if he can offer more than JBG has done (hardly beyond the realms of possibility) it’s an option that might be worth exploring.
