For all you local cricket followers on here, and I know there are many. We woke up this morning to the very sad news that Peter Wood, one of, if not the Leagues best ever amateur batsman, and Rawtenstall legend has sadly passed away.
RIP Pete, you’ll be sadly missed by all..

Sad news indeed. RIP Peter. One of the all-time LL greats and that's from a Hassy lad. Tremendous batter.

When I made my debut for the first team in my early years of my career and opened with him, he was the best player of quick bowling I’ve ever seen, and as many will verify, the league had some quick bowlers around in the 80s..

RIP Peter. Respect for his cricket career. We moved back to the Valley mid 70s and he was the man.

Played both rugby and cricket with Peter from the early 70s on his return from a spell in South Africa (if memory serves) and through into the early 80s.
Some great memories..none funnier than his slip..flattening himself on a stray cow pat, on the pitch at Kirkby Lonsdale, 2 yards short of the try line having made a great line break through the centre.
RIP Peter....a genuine good sort.

Knew him a long time ago through a friend then he emigrated to South Africa. Incredibly talented batsman who in one home game at Bacup Rd. he dominated Patrick Paterson( in his pomp) to such an extent that he was taken out of the bowling attack by the opposition skipper. RIP Peter.

Grew up with Pete, played cricket and golf with him and he was a true competitor, his success at cricket didn`t really come as a suprise because he was always good beyond his level, he was a character no doubt and as has already been said taken far to soon. RIP Wooders

What sad news. I can’t say anything about him personally because I never met him but I can say he was a simply outstanding batsman for Rawtenstall. One of the best in the league.

A true gentleman and probably the best amateur batsman the LL has ever seen.
RIP Peter.

Just before my time but one of those names that people involved in league cricket have heard and know. One that the older club members recall with great affection even though he played for the opposition. A legend of the Lancashire League.
His league obituary is here with his accomplishments detailed.

Further sad news this week in the Lancs League.
Fred Nuttall (Bacup) - I can just about remember him playing, and former Tod & Rishton pro Aftab Baloch (69) have both passed away.
