Looking for a good one for a special birthday meal.

Beijing Cantonese just outside Burnley used to be our 'go to' but not been for ages and recent reviews seem a bit mixed.

Any recommendations within say a 10 mile radius of Burnley appreciated.

I believe Beijing changed hands a few years back and has never been as good as it was.

Not sure about Jade Palace in Earby

Iv had take away recently from Beijing which was good but been told off 2 different friends they ate in and it was terrible.

There’s not much selection for good Chinese restaurants around here. Indian on the other hand lots of good ones.

Can’t help on this one, it’s probably the only popular cuisine I’m not a fan of, I’ve not heard of any good ones locally either.
I’m sure there will be over Manchester way

Summer Palace in Padiham used to be fantastic I haven't eaten there since the Covid outbreak but I have heard a couple of mixed reviews, I always like to make my mind up and will be going again in a couple of weeks.

My mate went to JUN YUE in Clitheroe last weekend, he said it was very VERY good. He said he’s never seen a place as busy and people coming in to to collect food non stop.

A quick google search it has a 4.8 rating out of 5 stars, with most people rating it 5 out of 5 stars. Lots of brilliants reviews and comments.

Ocean Palace at the top end of Darwen is very good.

Not Chinese, but we have enjoyed food at the Rim Nam Thai in Hebden Bridge in the past

Our go-to was Yu at Copster Green but they changed something last year and now the food isn’t nearly as good

While we're at it any recommendations for a decent Chinese takeaway in and around Burnley. We sometimes use The Wok Place who are quite good but are shut 4 days a week.

Avoid the Beijing. Used to use it a lot and not been for ages but I went last week and it was very disappointing.

Mate reckons jade palace at earby is quality, but I haven’t been.

We get takeaway from the Beijing and, apart from some items missing one one occasion, it's always been very enjoyable. Eating in looks quite crowded at times though. That may be the underlying problem. Just too busy.

Summer Palace in Padiham is excellent. The salt and chilli chips alone are worth going for.

Bit further than 10 miles but:

Yuzu (Japanese) in Manchester gets the Jay Raynor approval.

Michael Wan's Mandarin in Blackpool is often rated among some of the best places to eat out in the UK.

They're all very affordable too.

Tattu Manchester does it more upmarket. Worth it for a special occasion.

Jade Palace Earby is decent enough.

Takeaway wise I go Ming Wo Lyndhurst Rd, or HOME in Rosegrove, both decent enough dlthough I've not been having Chinese as much as I used too, very samey and it's expensive for what it actually is.

No recommendation from me but I can say i just made a cracking Chicken Chow Mein

Rau Sen in Brierfield and Good Fortune in Nelson are both pretty good

Two girls I know regularly ate at Beijing for years. Went recently and said it was terrible, service and food. The owner apologised, encouraged them to have the mains for free and offered a vocuher to give it another chance.

The main problem with the Chinese food industry is they change shops/restaurants too much.

You get to like one and they move on.

A bit of a generalisation - their kids go to university and into well-paid graduate jobs. When mum and dad retire from the takeaway business, there's nobody to pass it onto. This is why there's so few Chinese takaways around, say when compared to a couple of decades ago.

Of course it's a bit of a generalisation, but it's evidence based from where I live.
In Padiham we have 4 Chinese takeaways and a Chinese restaurant.
They have all changed hands over the last 3 years with one changing over 3 times.

I think a lot move about due to work visas expiring or expired less traceable, if you google Chinese takeaways illegal workers there’s far too many for me to list.

It’s a simple explanation why the businesses change hands & workers frequently if you can offer another explanation I’m all ears?

Absolutely cock all to due with visas and illegal immigration. Think how often many pubs change hands, is that due to work permit issues and illegal immigration too?

Edited to add that in this country, hospitality staff aren’t generally well rewarded and a large proportion due it to give income to support study, so fairly transient workforce. Also, as it’s quite low paid, a very small wage increase from somewhere else would be attractive and therefore staff move around a lot too.

Yep, beginning to wish I'd never asked (but thanks again to the ones with the helpful replies)

I tried Heng Ju on Burnley rd, Rawtenstall at the weekend.

It’s take away only but was decent.

Had DD changed hands again since?

Tend not to bother much anymore with Chinese, it seems to be expensive and everything is deep fried and salt and pepper.

I used to love Double Dragon but they moved to Home in Rosegrove.
I only went once after but it wasn't to my liking at all.

Yes I tried home when they first moved, didn't like it but they've since improved dramatically.
Only issue is there isn't a big chippy type fryer, so the chips aren't chippy chips.
The food is good though

Yes wing wo hapton is ok too, however its a bit far so comes luke warm if you're 3rd on the delivery route which we must be being far ish away.

No good if you've got guests and/or having starters.

Went to the Beijing last week awful food no flavour - one in padiham used to be good

Blossom in Rawtenstall is very good. I’ve never had a bad meal from there.

Chans in Crawshawbooth used to be able to give anyone a run for their money.

Wing Wah in Hapton is the best Chinese take away about.
