FAO CT

Post by 2510 » Tue Feb 01, 2022 2:49 pm

Tony, In view of our disappointing transfer window, is there anyone in our U23 squad who you think could step up into the first-team squad?

Another question for you, how many, in the recent past have?

Not one of our under 23s will ever be a regular in a Premierleague first team.

The sad state of affairs is most of them will end up in the lower leagues/non league.

Don’t say how you can say that. Dunne and Benson have shown it’s quite possible. Mancini certainly didn’t look out of place and Helm Thomas and Richardson may all yet progress. Too much negativity surrounding some of our youngsters potential.

Difficult to say to be honest. I've seen a number of really disappointing u23 games this season but the players I thought might be getting close, such as Richardson and Mancini, have been missing.

I would be over the moon if the majority of the squad play league football. That would be huge progress from not so long ago where they all went to non league.

Nothing's been said but was told he'd broken his ankle

OK.
Just he seems to have been out for ages.
A shame. He's always looked good when I've seen him play.

Can't remember last time I saw him but Rob Harker has been out since August. I was at the game when he got the injury and he's just disappeared.

It seems such a shame for Richardson in particular, as he really has possibly looked the most likely to make it for a number of years now and he's been involved with England (at his age group) since he was much younger. He always seems to have shone whenever he's played for whichever team at Burnley and in some ways Mellon is currently following in his footsteps and has taken on his mantle and seems to have real promise and maybe something a bit extra. I just hope we see Richardson back and playing very soon as it must be devastating right now when he was clearly on the brink.

Don't seem keen on general updates for our younger players.
Bizarre really.

He got a three match ban after being sent off against Stoke in November. We've played five league and two cup games since so he's long been available again.

Corey Brennan
Joel Connolly
Calen Gallagher-Allison
Rob Harker
Anthony Gomez Mancini
Lewis Richardson
Max Thompson
Sam Unwin

Other than Thompson, who played as recently as November, I can't recall when any of those on this last played, Harker apart who last played in August. Some of them have played more recently but the fact is there is just no information offered by the club.
