Empty seats/atmosphere

Ground was basically full at kick off, 15 mins into the first half the 2 lower tiers started emptying slowly.
I know the weather is bad but surely people knew what to expect, makes me wonder if all the people who don’t usually go and got the free tickets thought F this and left ? Or are they all stood inside watching on the TV (Which is pointless)
Once again the stadium looks empty on TV.
The atmosphere for such a big game has been awful. Hoping for a better 2nd half !

It's Watford, it's chucking it down and it's cold/windy.
It isn't worth catching a cold over

So you watched on tv and saw the directors box in the Bob Lord stand.

unfortunately there is no point in having all these great deals from Pace when the footy on show is dreadful. Not many first timers tonight would choose to go back after sitting through that 90 minutes. It's a huge problem

Agreed. Real shame we turned in a performance like that under the circumstances.

Try creating chances occasionally. That normally gets fans making noise.

We always seem to do that when it is the most important game to keep the fanbase happy but we were also very unlucky with the weather.

I was watching at home, in the dry and warm, and thought ‘**** this’.
I’ve only ever left one game early. A 4-0 loss away at Leicester under Howe.
But tonight would’ve been a possible second.

The Bob Lord was at least a third empty.
Atmosphere was good for 5 minutes and then awful for the 1st half. Got better in the 2nd half - but that have been out of desperation

I got drenched in the lower longside, what an awful stand.
People were leaving after 10 minutes.
I should have joined them.

Felt sorry for those in the lower tiers tonight. Maybe lots of people who aren't regulars didn't know what to expect sat down there?

I did and sat there for 90 mins at a cost of £85.00. To be honest glad I went as now I won’t be going again unless we go down or invest in some quality players as I see amateur matches that are more entertaining.

It must have been miserable for the supporters in the lower decks of our two built on a budget stands. Having to endure mind numbing football and getting soaked to boot. They deserve a medal, and a refund on their discounted tickets.

Took a new fan to the hospitality today. Had a great day untill we went outside to watch the game..got ****** wet through in the "premium seats". The roof coverage really is pathetic

Pre match drinks in the Oxford were done to a good sing song so there was no doubt the fans were up for it, the ground was fuller as the teams came out than usual, we were ready to go for it, but even sitting in the longside upper away from the weather the quality of the football sucked any enthusiasm and expectation from us so to be sat in the lower tiers must have been pergatory

I’m not having any blame for the fans in that game. Notice how the atmosphere was actually bang on when we were creating chances and at it at the start of the game - it usually reflects what is going on, on the pitch. And I don’t blame anybody for leaving early, it really was awful conditions.

Atmosphere seemed fine in the CFS, quite bouncing all game, can’t tell what the rest of the ground were doing though. Conditions were awful tonight though, which won’t have helped at all.
One thing that really bugs me though is the bloke who incessantly whistles really loud all the time - making me go bloody deaf!

We rarely miss a game but because we’re in the Longside Lower we knew we’d get soaked regardless of attire so we decided to watch it on tv. It’s no fun being soaked before you sit in your wet seat to get hammered with the rain and wind for 90 mins.

I remember being sat in Jimmy Mac lower for the 6-1 (or was it 7?) drubbing by Man City, absolutely throwing it down. I'd never sit in that stand again

Good photos. Doesn't look a bad turnout, at all. I was told Watford had sold out. Hardly any of them there.

The Longside needs boxing in properly. The lower tier is literally an open end. The wind and rain swirls in from the sides. The side panels should reach the very front of the stand, like the BLS and CFS. It was awful in there last night.

Not sure of their official following, but I suspect somewhere in the region of 900? So around 1,500 empty seats in the away end?

The Jimmy Mac lower tier is the worst place to watch a game in the entire ground. It’s why it’s always the last area to sell. The only way that would change is if strong price incentives were in place. The bottom tiers full stop aren’t great, and are pretty much open ends as the roof offers no cover.
Last night though, half way up the top tier was wet through.

Yeah, but that will never happen permanently as it’d be a logistical nightmare. I can’t remember how they managed the Stoke game years ago when the Cricket Field stand roof needed replacing?

Bumped into some Asian lads near the bus station who had been given free tickets, let’s just say they won’t be attending again, they hated it

Not sure who spread the rumour of the Watford “ sellout” Fam stand and CFS etc full but plenty of empty seats . The weather was a killer but the atmosphere was shocking . Apart from the odd ( very brief) coke sprinkled burst of song from the CFS ,the atmosphere very much reflected the on pitch damp squib

Very likely ( and good for them ) but the shrieking and giddy excitement spread by some on here ,that they’d sold out their end thus ensuring a full house was almost Twitter-esque in it’s bullsh1t. Fair play to Watford though for a Sat night TV game

I sit on the Longside lower half way line, front row with only the wall in front of me. (season ticket seats last 9-10 years)
I have been cold and wet on many occasions, but last night was the worse for me. We stayed until the end but I was wishing the time away regardless of the result. You need full waterproof protection and wellies in those seats. The footwells fill with about 1 inch of water and will eventually seep through trainer material type footwear. your legs are soaking. I had been out in town prior so only had a waterproof coat (my own fault)

This. I’ve been much colder but never been so wet. Drenched to the skin. I thought the atmosphere was good at the start from the home stands but there weren’t many Watford fans. Fair play to fans who sat in that to watch the game.

The empty seats are season ticket holders that didn’t attend
The club can’t sell those (unless informed in advance)

Let's face it, unless it's to see the likes of United, Liverpool or City not many casual fans are going to pay 30-40 quid to watch us, with the football we generally serve up.
Add in the fact that every game is on TV in some shape or form it's no wonder people are losing interest. We could be down to about 12 thousand home fans on the Turf next season, even if by some miracle we stay up.

Poor turnout from Watford not helped by the 6pm ko and Burnleys poor public transport links to the national rail links
