Dental Issues (Crown)

I had a root canal done about 3 years ago and a crown put in.

Over the weekend my crown has become really painful resulting in not being able to eat or drink much and I am currently full with painkillers.

I shall be heading to the dentist tomorrow to get an appoint after calling this morning and getting no answer.

Two questions I have, are there any good home remedies to help with the pain? And, after reading online, once a root canal is done and a crown put in, there should be no pain with the tooth, do I have a claim to contact the dentist and get my money back for the crown I had done? It has been a few years but I paid around £400-500 for the crown.

I used clove oil when I had severe toothache and pending treatment. It helped.

Echo the clove oil recommendation. Cocodamol if you have any too.

I had a root canal and subsequent crown a few years ago. Costly work. You are correct in your assumption that you should get no pain. That is the whole idea of the root canal.

It’s awful isn’t it tooth/ root canal pain. Assuming it’s the same practise their records should show the work you had done, therefore an X-ray should identify the current problem, hopefully you can then get them to sort things out for you and become pain free. I had a crown done about 10 years ago and recently had an ache from it, it turned out there were little bits missing on the tooth next to it that were causing the problem, the X-ray found the problem. I’ve another Crown being done next month. Good luck with it I hope they identify the problem and you become pain free, I’d definitely mention the previous cost though.

I thought the hole process of root canal was to remove the nerve in the gum behind the tooth. Sounds to me like the dentist left some of the nerve in and it grew again.

I recently paid £477 for a new crown with root canel it would have been in the region of £750

I had the same issue and then my crown fell out. I now need a re-route canal. Can’t be done on NHS. Will cost best part of a grand

Its probably an abscess , to be honest.

Ive had one, ******* agony.
Take Solpadene Max until its sorted.
Any antibiotics you may be presribed will kick in straight away.

Root Canal work removes the nerve, that is why it is pain free. As you are getting pain my guess is you've a close by infection and will need anti biotics

Whatever it is you have my sympathy. Nothing worse than toothache. I’ve had my fair share since having a fall and smashing my chin which has led to three upper teeth having to be taken out.

I have always found that rubbing crushed aspirin around the area that is affected works best for me and its quick too but be careful as its a blood thinner and you can't take it with some medication.

I had this and they gave me a new crown as it seemed to be cracked. But the pain was from an infection behind the root canal and luckily antibiotics and a new crown sorted it. If it didn’t the plan was to be referred to the NHS and they do a Apicoectomy. I’ll let you Google that over putting a scary looking photo on here.

My wife and I had extensive dental treatment 3 years ago in Spain by a German guy who had a practice out in the sticks, he was more than 50% cheaper than the UK.

Was on holiday last year in Fethiye, Turkey and there was a guy from Sunderland having extensive treatment and a holiday at the same time, he went on to tell me he had saved himself 1000s and he was on his 3rd and final trip.

Stay clear of the NHS for any kind of dental work all they want to do is fill em and pull em, cowboys.

Crown =no nerve.
Either indection or adjacent tooth/teeth.

Clove is the one used most, however, I find that not as good as Rosemary essential oil for my tooth/gum pains. It is analgesic and better taste than clove, which can also be very strong.

You can just add as it wears off, whereas you will soon have enough of clove!
