Wout Weghorst

Heading ability is average

Football ability is brilliant. He’s got a better touch than a man half his size. Brilliant performance

That assist was something Harry Kane would be proud of. He’s actual far better with his feet than head it would seem (also lines up with clips id seen of him + reports from German media).

Shown more commitment in that game for others to feed off. He's a lean mean fighting machine.

Looks an adjustment phase with him, better with the ball at his feet than in the air. Worked tirelessly, outstanding performance.

And when you have a striker who can do things like that with the ball, other players chip in with the goals required.

Really unfortunate not to score too, that save by De Gea was world class in those conditions.

Clearly he’s a footballer and not just a lump, but I reckon Dyche can make him utilise his height, as well as his football ability.

Remember when Ronaldo couldn’t head, and then he was one of the best about. It’s a skill he can learn to complement his class

That assist and the way he caused Maguire and co countless trouble throughout the 2nd half is very encouraging to say the least.

And he could have even won for us but for DDG.

Once he gets up to pace of the PL he'll be a handful for defenders.

very promising, but one swallow doesn't mean it's spring, long way to go and from the first half match chat a lot were ready to cut they're throats I think, want to see us build of that any play that way for 90 minutes, win, draw or lose.

I thought he had a poor first half. Then second half he came alive.

I can see him helping other players to score goals but he is quite possibly the slowest player I have ever seen, I think it’s likely he will struggle to score himself as he won’t have the space. . Let’s see how he settles in but today was great game for him and here’s hoping he keeps building links with the other strikers

I thought he looked really good tonight. Good in the air, very good vision and touch, plenty of effort and forced an excellent save from De Gea with a great effort.

I said when we signed him he's a budget Ibrahimovic and an absolute coup, and that I had him as my pick for Euro 2020 golden boot. If we'd signed the midfield improvements we needed he would terrify just about any team in this league. Followed him for a while, would never have thought Burnley would get him.
I still think our transfer window was a net failure despite this as we didn't improve midfield, but Weghorst is a very, very good footballer. A colleague of mine is an Arsenal fan and exceptionally knowledgable about football- his view was even more positive than mine and that signing Weghorst alone was a good window. Arsenal had been linked with him and he viewed Weghorst as good enough for them, just too old to fit their preferred signing profile.
If he finds the net soon he could really be something for us.

Looks like he will be a very good signing by Pace and the new recruitment team, whowever they are. A couple more of his quality in midfield and we would have a good team/squad. If we can only stop up this year, we could be moving in the right direction.

You do know that Dyche and his team scout players and have said Weghorst was on their radar for a while right? And that it's been commented publically that it was Garlick who was averse to sanctioning foreign signings, not Dyche? That Dyche was speaking about analytics an their role in coaching & transfers years ago?
Fair play to Pace for agreeing to the transfer and ponying up but I'd be surprised if he was the one who scouted & selected Weghorst.

I obviously dont talk to Dyche, Pace, Garlick and the re recruitment staff as much as you do. What I do know is the signings of Collins, Cornet, Roberts and Weghurst are on a different level to signing Lennon, Stephens, Crouch, Walters, Bardsley etc.

Not inside knowledge- this has all been covered in the public domain many times.
We signed good players before Pace too. Defour obviously comes to mind.
If Pace's vision is more in alignment with Dyche's than Garlick's (which remains to be seen) that's obviously good, but I highly highly doubt a chairman who had no experience of football 12 months ago is the one scouting and hand picking the signings for Dyche's team.

He did play very and does have a certain ‘style’ that looks dangerous. One black mark though, should have squared across for Cornet, who was unmarked in front of the goal, instead of shooting from a tight angle during the second half. But very encouraging.

Said all along, he's not your traditional targetman, many look at 6ft 6 and assume he's just a big lump header hungry carthorse like Wood. His first touch, passing ability and hold up play is excellent, runs his absolute ******** off too, worked himself into the ground tonight. Has that Dutch ability to beat a man close quarters with touch, Bergkamp/Van Basten esc.

Just before half time, the way he picked up the ball deep, played 1 2, beat a man on the halfway line then sprayed it out wide was brilliant, that flow was exactly what we required in central midfield.

It's Vout as in Out.

Aye, it's pronounced like shout, not like root.

From the second half (when we woke up) he was so much more involved in the press and the build-up play than we'd become accustomed to seeing from Wood. Anticipated his teammates' pressure rather well and consistently positioned himself well to help the midfield. This is something for which Wood had zero nous, and we need the strikers to come deep and help win the ball back if we're only playing two in midfield. Something you don't usually see done too well in target men, and makes you think if calling him a target man is even fair to him. He's just a smarter footballer than Wood, I think. Just as slow as Wood, and probably not as much of a battering ram, but looks sharper, takes more initiative, and moves the ball far quicker.
