Yawn! Klopp is like a broken record, if he thinks we're physical goodness only knows what he makes of Arsenal's red and yellow card count.

"They brought in a new striker [Wout Weghorst]. If you saw the game, you would have seen he is a lively boy. He was very active all over the pitch. Burnley ask for all physicality you can put in a game, we cannot have the ball all the time and they are good when they have the ball.

Thought his comments were fair (for once).

A pretty fair assessment, that.

I hope we are physical and rip into them as we did United in the second half, even more so if we have to. Nothing dirty but borderline will do.

I don't mind losing to a class side or even being relegated so long as we really do get stuck in. The time for standing back and admiring opposition players has long gone.

Wonder what his comments will be after the game?

I haven't checked, but if he's said what SaliburyClaret has quoted below, then he seems pretty bang on to me, and surprisingly complimentary.

I have to say having watched his interview now he was very complimentary. Let’s see how he conducts himself when Wout gets his first brace.

If that's what he said, it seems fairly complementary to me.

I thought he was very complimentary. We are physical and thats a compliment. He also said we can play. Therefore I have changed my mind and will not throwing rotten apples at him on Sunday!!!

Actually as the Yorkshire Pudding said the other day with Weghorst we can change our style somewhat. Instead of lumping it up to him we can play into Weghorsts feet as he drops deeper leaving the other striker further upfield. From what I've seen he can play a close passing game which most of our team can't unfortunately.

But he's actually setting the tone for the ref and the VAR ref in highlighting something that doesn't exist. He doesn't want us to tackle his players, so he `suggests` we are very physical in the build up to the game hoping it gets picked up. He's trying to create an unfair advantage before a ball is kicked, and he's a prick.

Just as long as the ref isn't suckered into their dying swan acts, all will be ok.

Amazing how, if comments are taken in their full context, the meaning can be seen to be entirely different. A very fair and complimentary assessment from Klopp, from those words.

Having heard the edited snippet on Talk Sport, I assume that this is where the OP may have got their perspective of his comments from.

This perfectly sums up how the likes of Talk Sport, and indeed various media outlets operate. Creating frustrated responses to drive listeners and debate (arguments).

Complimentary, but....

It’s purely an attempt to affect the game by getting into the officials head before a ball is kicked.

That fact he made some comments that are slightly less “gittish ” than usual is purely an attempt to disguise his real intentions. And some have proper gone for it….

Agree with your post although I think our first half display on Tuesday involved 'standing back and admiring'. I think by the end of Tuesday's game one or two players were 'treading water', excuse the pun, but 180 minutes plus inside three days in difficult conditions had understandably taken its toll. Hopefully a little more refreshed by Sunday and I just want to see us 'give them a game' and if that means, as you say, 'on the borderline' that's fine by me.

It's a man's game for goodness sake, if they don't like it
maybe it's not for them and they should take up netball.

You must be desperate to whinge about Kloppp is all I can say. I thought his comments were largely positive even when he mentioned 'Physicality.'

Like all managers before a game, he's "appearing to be complimentary" but he's actually getting his points out there and trying to influence things in his favour. He's highlighting our "physicality" whilst wrapping it up in some jolly nice cotton wool, just in case the officials on the day aren't aware of it!! Let's not be fooled, he absolutely hates us!! (Because he secretly fears us)

I'd love Dyche to come out with something like "It's always tough against physical sides like Man U and Liverpool but having the best disciplinary record in the Premier League for so many years will stand us in good stead"

There seems to be a quite a bit of Bob Paisley's 'toffee' in that

for those unaware Paisley used to like to say nice things about opponents before some games, believing it could make them take their eye off the ball a little (or is that just enough) he used to refer to it as giving them some 'toffee'

Klopp is obviously learning from the master....This was highlighted by another poster some time ago. Sombody pointed out Paisley did the same thing "Sometimes this involved flattering the opposition before difficult games: what Paisley called 'giving them a bit of toffee'...."

I sense this is aimed at getting into the ref's mind also.

I suspect all the refs are more aware of our 3 year red card record than any managers pre match comments. They’ll talk about us at length in their ref training sessions.

So I’m not too worried about Klippetty Klopp. He’s saying we will put up more of a threat than a typical bottom three side, probably true, although if United had gone 3 up on Tuesday I may have been concluding at that point we are like a bottom three side.

Let’s hope he is raging after the game.

There are some great words in German, that sound like what they mean, the verb kloppen for example means 'to fight or brawl'. As such you might say : Klopp erwartet eine regelrechte Klopperei! Meaning Klopp is expecting a real brawl, or something like that.

Not quite that bad. It was 180 minutes in 4 days, Saturday to Tuesday.

I put on the radio at work and his voice was the first thing I heard...yes, it may have been edited by TS, but he has deliberately created a talking point by emphasising our apparently physical approach to the game.

And i don't like him.
