Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
I agree with previous other comments that Max Cornet isn’t a natural centre forward BUT I’d much prefer him up front playing in a ‘free roaming’ number 10 position than left or right wing back. As a wing back imo he struggles a bit with his defensive ‘duties’ and playing more forward reduces his defensive responsibilities.
We need to score goals and having Max up front supporting either Weghorst or Rodriguez or Barnes is our best chance of scoring and winning games.
McNeil can return to his best position on the left of midfield.

Impact sub like at Leeds is his best position for me
Re: Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
Cornet right McNeil left, we need to score so despite Lennon being decent enough defensively recently we need our most creative players on the pitch.

Should be on the right, so he can cut inside and shoot with his left foot, we've hardly seen him on the right.

Re: Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
It’s obvious he prefers the left but so does McNeil, Vydra, Weghorst and JRod. He’s versatile enough to play on the right though which allows McNeil the left slot

Played more games on the right than left for Lyon and had his best goal + assist stats.SalisburyClaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 2:31 pmIt’s obvious he prefers the left but so does McNeil, Vydra, Weghorst and JRod. He’s versatile enough to play on the right though which allows McNeil the left slot

Re: Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
Cornet left, or off Weghorst as a priority.
Dwight either left or CM, depending on where Max is playing.
Neither should be playing RW. If Lennon isn't fit. then draft in a kid, but no more round pegs in square holes.

I’d at least try him wide right. I don’t think he “struggles” with defensive duties, but I think the defensive duties do hold him back in that he can’t make his runs in behind.

Re: Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
I’m a bit confused by Cornet so far.
To date he’s proven himself to be a scorer of some fantastic goals, but his contribution between the goals has often been minimal.
So it feels like we need him in the side for the goals, but we also need him to contribute more to the wider team play - particularly if he’s playing out wide rather than up front.

Re: Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
Rodriguez has been decent in the last two games, so I wouldn’t be in a rush to put Cornet back up front.
I’d play him on the right hand side, McNeil left. Lennon was superb against Liverpool but moreso from a defensive perspective. Brighton is approaching must win status really, so we need to try and get the threats we have all out on the pitch together.

Re: Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
Given that neither Webster or Duffy are that quick then if we play him at the weekend it's up top for me, the one caveat to that is they may bully him

Re: Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
Cornet hasn't shown much out wide. His movement and runs in behind make him more dangerous up top IMO. Especially as WW has a tendency to drop deep a lot, so keeping Cornet up there with his pace and threat seems our best option. The only problem is the lack of a right winger....

Re: Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
Depends what formation we play. If 4-4-2 as usual then up front with Vout. However if we change to say 3-3-3-1 then I think he would be great on right of front 3 with Westy And Dwight.
Right now he fitness And stamina is an issue But hopefully that will improve

One thing I've noticed about Maxwel since his return from Afcon is how relatively easy he is knocked off the ball.
He perhaps needs a couple of Hafner's steak pies.

Definitely - he clearly has a great and unpredictable long shot and an eye for goal but having seen a bit more in the last few games, whilst he is lively etc, his technical ability seems fairly limited. Needs to be out wide attacking space or we will be carrying him, can’t play in tight spaces and can’t pass particularly well.
Can see why Lyon used him as they did - hopefully we can get more out of him with a settled position.

Re: Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
He is our highest and most likely scorer.
When playing wide he has been fairly anonymous ie Leeds away after Jayrod and Vydra came on and in both the last two home games.
He should play supporting Weghorst to keep him interested and in range of goal.
This allows McNeil to play wide left and might help him return to the player he was when he first got into the first team, running past full backs and crossing the ball in a fashion that is way beyond Charlie's hit and hope efforts

Re: Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
He's clearly a fantastic footballer but I don't think he fits any of the roles in Dyche's framework. Play him up front and hope for the best.

Re: Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
It's crazy to think the club/Dyche had been scouting him for 4 years before bringing him here and we don't know where to play him.
Play him where he can take the most shots. Only goals will save us now.

Versatile so depends how the game pans out .
For me floating up front to prevent the opposition playing in our half .

His position is determined by who else we have available really.
As good as he's been, I couldn't tell you what his best position is.
I just know that I've never seen a Burnley player glide across the grass as effortlessly as he does.

Re: Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
Yes.
Defensively, we're not bad at all.
But not hitting the back of our opponent's net will cost us dearly, should things not change sharpish.
Put him up front.
Re: Cornet - left midfield, right midfield or up front?
How about dropped?
