There are more goals in Brownhill

When we signed Brownhill one of the main reasons appeared to be his ability to score from midfield. Indeed at City he was renowned for that, and yet he has completely lost his way in that respect as he has had to fit into the system. It has been something I’ve been pointing out for the past few weeks, that we must enable him to get into goal scoring positions. With him Cornet and McNeil providing ammunition from midfield we can become a much harder team to play, and add in Roberts marauding down the right and there is every reason to believe we can become an attacking force again.

Brownhill has been one of the most disappointing signings for me, but in the last 2 games, there's been a huge improvement.
This positive form needs to carry on.

Is that you Newcastle?

Goals from midfield are vital, and if Brownhill can chip in with a few all the better, we've been far too reliant on Wood over the last 18 months, and when has form and goals dried up we suffered accordingly.
Also far better if we can spread our goals around the team, Weghorst looks like he will contribute a few, but his attributes are more likely to be linking play, and creating goals rather than being an out and out goal scorer, although I'd be delighted to be proved wrong.
Roberts can definitely provide another forward threat, as his neat assist showed today. And he was unlucky not to bag himself with his early effort which hit the bar.

I like Brownhill and have done since he got in the side just after the first lockdown. Sure he's had some bad games and he's found the step up to PL level a difficult one at times, but I think he gives us energy and dynamism in midfield that nobody else does or can. In the last two performances he looks to have added far more composure on the ball, and even a goal now.
One thing is for sure though - Newcastleclaret is utterly clueless. He said that Brownhill wasn't even a footballer and was just an athlete.

Get him further up the field . Now we have Weghorst I think we will link up much better . Hard in a 2 man centre midfield to allow those runs. We need to allow it now

Big fan of his but I can see why he divides opinion. He's great at breaking up play, and has shown glimpses of being very effective further forward with well timed runs into space. It's the bit in the middle that often lets him down where he gives the ball away cheaply in poor positions, though he has done far better in the last 2/3 games.
Sometimes just needs to slow down, get his head up and look around to see what's going on.
We're a far better team with him in it though.

He’s been under confident since he got here. Treated the ball like a hot potatoe. Hopefully that’ll change now he’s scuffed one in

A different player in a team going forward.
If he can nick 2 or 3 more goals before the season is over he will become a real asset.

The leap to the Premier league is massive especially when you sign from a team who haven't really challenged for promotion so aren't at a high level. He has been an engine room which is what Dyche wanted, now we have to win perhaps the freedom allows his skill to come to the fore.

There could well be. I prefer it when he is playing almost as an inside forward just behind the front two.
Bristol City fans were heartbroken when we bought him.

Look up Boyd’s scoring stats before he came to us - we use these players in a different way in our midfield, Brownhill had ran over 6km by half time yesterday and was all over the pitch.

One of the players we signed that seemed massively over awed when he came on for his first few minutes when he signed.
He’s worked very hard in improving into a prem midfielder but that first game he seemed yards off the pace and his demeanour at the time showed he was shocked how quickly stuff was moving around him.

Not the best at distribution , but he's a grafter with a good engine .

I think there are more goals in Lennon as well which I didn’t expect if I am honest.

That stat is crazy. Proper engine on the lad and if he can couple that with the composure we’ve seen last couple of games & chipping in with a few, he’ll be a brilliant player for us.
Thought for a while he just needed a scruffy one so hopefully we’ll see him get a few more now!

Likewise. Looks lethal in front of goal. Just need to keep getting him in those dangerous positions.

Nobody doubts his effort, but after the last two games, it's a real bonus to see that he can do more than just run around like a headless chicken. Long may this form continue.

I can only guess that he was shackled by what he was asked to do, and that has changed.

No revelation to me, to be honest; but delighted for the lad nonetheless. We have been sitting too deep pretty much ever since he arrived… he’s a box to box man and they are worth there weight in gold in a confident team. Chuffed to bits.

Tend to agree with dougcollins re. Brownhill.
Wonder if the shackles have been loosened as of late and he's been
asked to get forward more often?
If so then it certainly seems to be working.
Let's hope he continues to do so.
The same may also apply to Lennon who seems to have found a new lease of life
having been written off by many since he re-signed.

At times our midfield always seem to afraid to shoot, I hope that has now changed. If you don’t shoot you seldom score. A shot can take a deflection or anything, always worth a go

It surprised me - on the stream I had on they put it on screen and he really was everywhere on the pitch. Probably why he isn’t in goal scoring positions more often as he is a true box to box player.
(Attached pic is of the still they had on)

Brownhill has been exceptional last two games.

He has wanted to push up into attacking and thus goal scoring positions but has had to play a deeper role.

He is a very tidy footballer that was obvious to me in his first 3 games with us - he wasnt allowed to play football because of poor quality around him and a system that was too defensive because we lacked the creativity.
Future captain and he's on the team sheet before Cork or Westy for me!!

Moment Wout scored I said we could do with Brownhill bagging now for confidence
Partly it was on my mind because Wout coming deep and the ball sticking with him was giving Brownhill the confidence to push further up
Could have done with McNeil getting that one and a shame cos he was onside but hit hit Wout on the way through and he was offside
Lennon free scoring now too…

2 really well taken goals he’s scored
