I know its their right to do so and I know that they are all doctors on call and I know they all have sick family members to get home to 5mins earlier than they otherwise would...... but, at such a season defining moment as the last 5 mins last night, why would anyone leave early?

It's not home 5 minutes earlier for leaving 5 minutes early though is it. When it's full it can take upto an hour through the traffic for some.

Leave 5 minutes early saves an hour and 5 minutes.

Parking for the last 3 home games has been a nightmare, and getting away and back home to Nelson afterwards has been taking an age.

Last night wasn't helped with an accident outside the Shimla, so any traffic coming along the main road towards town, were having to do u-turns or turn up Ormerod Rd hitting the traffic up there

I leave early most games. Soz.

Why? Because the town has basically a packhorse route in and out and if I dont leave 1 minute before the end of injury time then it can take me 3hrs to get home.

I hate leaving early. I hate the thought of missing something. I dislike not being able to clap the players off.

But i equally hate being home late, feeling crap in work, having a wet legs driving home (exacerbated if sat in traffic longer)

Is there a form I should fill out so seek you approval to leave early, Sir?

Never an issue for me those who want to leave early the ones who are a pain are those who decide they want to go early then stand at the gangways blocking the view for others, they then look a bit put out when asked to move.

If you are leaving early then leave.

Each to their own, but an hour added on to my journey is well worth sacrificing by staying to the end and showing the players appreciation for a gargantuan effort. Plus I'd have major FOMO if I left early.

Same with going for a pie or a drink 5 mins before half time. That's just never been me, but I'm not going to judge others that do.

I've no problem whatsoever with early leavers. You pay your money and take your choice. Anyway, those early leavers enable me to get home that little be quicker.

Only thing that annoys me about people leaving early is having to stand up every 2 mins while 3/4 obese blokes individually grind their wang against me while saying "scuse me pal, jus' get past yer".

We always leave between 85/90 mins so as we can get back to the car and up centenary way before they start to pile out, otherwise it can put over an hour on our 45mile journey.
Nothing to do with the game or the score at the time.

Haha. That would be the time then when my mate tried to leave at HT and the steward stopped him and said sorry mate you can't leave you have to stop and watch it like the rest of us.

I must confess to leaving on 90 minutes to avoid the crush between the fans leaving the Cricket Field Stand and the fans leaving the James Hargreaves Stand, a disaster area for BFC in my opinion. However, I am the first in the Cricket Club and get the round in (4 x £2.50)!!

It is difficult getting away at the end and my journey is over 50miles
But last night a drive of 500miles would have been worth it

My mate was there last night but isn't a member of this forum. He does leave 5 minutes before the end every match, not because he wants to leave early, but he has difficulty walking down steps. If he waited to the end, he'd cause a dangerous hold-up.

To answer the OP, season defining moments or not, there are numerous reasons why people leave early. Leave them alone. They're just going to the loo.

At least they turn up!

I assume once the game is over there is nothing encourage fans to stay for an hour to let the traffic clear. Like Bars food and replay of game highlights etc. I guess that’s only available in corporate. After match lounges might bring in some decent revenue especially after a win like last night when fans want to celebrate. But I guess games like last night are pretty scarce this season

I watch SC Freiburg in Germany a lot (at least I did pre-Covid). All the kiosks are open until about 2 hours after each game and many fans stay at least an hour after the game, a great revenue for the club. The variety of food and drink available is tremendous, they even have a Sekt (champagne) kiosk which would have been useful after the game last night

Just want to send my apologies to the OP for leaving early, I meant no harm or distress to you and hope you're ok today and have got over it.

However having got up at 0430 on Wednesday morning for work, done a 12hr shift at Manchester, then gone straight to the match, I felt as I had to get up again today at 0430 for another 12hr shift, my presence for the last 10 mins at the Turf wouldn't be missed. It allowed me to get home at 21:30 rather than closer than 23:00.

Sorry if this makes me a part time fan or such like.

Not having a go at you for leaving early but I’m not sure where you can live that leaving ten minutes early can change a 90 minute drive into a 20 minute drive? For reference I left after giving the players a well deserved full time round of applause but was still back home on the Wirral just after 11pm.

Chap behind me turns up 10 mins into game, goes for a pint on 38th minute every game. Turns up again around 60th minute then leaves on 80. Don't get it

Im 62 but after many years of experience I have trained my bladder. 2 pints in fanzone pre match, a pee before game, one at half time then leave for home after game. With practice I’m able to allow for injury time too

So, we have had the usual "Doctor on call" and a couple of "I have a plane to catch" - the rest of you can sit down, cheer your team, clap them off and stop getting in everyone else's way.
No, it is not your right to leave when you want, don't be so damm ignorant.
As for all the crap about leaving 5 mins early saves 3 hours off your journey - rubbish. This is Burnley, not Old Trafford.
Anybody tries to get past me when we are hanging on in the 89th minute can climb over me or go round!

Please don't call him sir,as it is non of his business what time I decide to leave.I have had a season ticket in the JHU since day one(same seat) and don't need his opinion.If he is concentrating on the game so much, he might not spend his time counting who is leaving when the board goes up!

I’m not sure what the issue is with people. I don’t mind who wants to walk past me, even several times per match if they’ve had a couple of pints - they can enjoy the game day as they wish. It’s not a hardship moving my legs to the side, or even partly standing for a second.

It’s obviously felt worse by people who have chosen to see close to an aisle, but still, it doesn’t even stop me watching the match, you just stand up when you feel someone moving down the aisle.

Being an avid Claret for well over 60 years but for various reasons unable to get to many games I value my trips to the Turf and treat it a bit like visiting a shrine and so do not want it all to end especially if it is game we have won. I stop until long after the match finishes as I am of an age when there won't be many more times I can attend !

Because they want to. They have paid their money, they do what they want. Doesn’t make them less of a supporter, there could be any number of reasons why they do so.

I didn’t/don’t leave early, I like to applaud the lads off the pitch, but if someone wants to shoot off, that’s their business.

I’d argue it does make them less of a supporter. Surely the person prepared to cheer on their team to the final whistle, especially 1-0 up in a crucial game, is offering better support than those leaving to miss the traffic.

I remember Rocky being arrested trying to climb out of Gay Meadow at half time.We were 3-0 down at down to 10 men. He did ask to be let out first, in fairness.

So if you travel 100 miles to get to the game and leave a few minutes early, (thus unhappily having to miss an important part of the game) in order not to miss your public transport link that gets you home before midnight, you are less of a supporter than someone who lives 200 metres from the ground and can stay behind for 10 minutes and still be home 15 minutes after the match???
I don't actually believe that we should have a rank order of who are our "best" supporters, but you certainly can't make any judgement of people's behaviour, based on them staying behind to clap, whilst ignoring what time you might set off to the game, what time you might leave the ground and what time you get home,

I never mentioned public transport, just those leaving early ‘to miss the traffic’.

My brother is handicapped and struggles to walk. To avoid blocking the exit for others he leaves a few minutes early.

We don’t want to get caught up in traffic for half an hour because after I drop him off, I have a two hour drive. It’s frequently 12.30am when I get home. You are probably asleep by then.

I really don’t understand why some people need to judge others. Maybe it’s because you are a kn@b.

Good to know I’m not as good as you at supporting my team because I leave early. Do you feel all warm inside now knowing that I’m not a proper supporter?

I’d like to know what you think about all the people that wasn’t even on the turf last night? I can only assume I’m better than them right, as I bothered to turn up, obviously I’m not as good as you Martin as I left early.

It’s absolutely pathetic to even think that someone leaving early is less of a fan, end of the day I’ve paid for my ticket, if I then choose to go at any point it’s my decision.

OP here. For those of you who clearly cannot read and therefore cannot understand my original point: I fully accept fans right to leave early for whatever reason they so choose. The question is: why? Having taken the not inconsiderable effort and expense and , if certain posters are to be believed, travelled long distances to be there, why would you want to miss the conclusion of the match? It simply does not make sense.
As it happens, my seat is towards the back of the BL block 2. I used to live in Nelson and now in Hapton. I park at TK Max and it has never taken me more than 25 mins to get home in either direction.
