Elden Ring
Anyone picking this up tomorrow? Or anyone playing now? It’s had outstanding reviews so far. I’m an hour or so in and am a bit overwhelmed at the size compared to previous From games.

Re: Elden Ring
I've had it on order for a few weeks... should arrive tomorrow. Really looking forward to it - although it will be my first From game.

Re: Elden Ring
Some are calling this the greatest video game ever made.
Re: Elden Ring
A lot of people consider the original Dark Souls to be the best game ever made, or certainly the best modern game when you ignore the weirdos who say PacMan, Space Invaders etc. You can only judge such things with a bit of perspective, but looking at what From have put together with this it doesn't seem too hyperbolic. It looks as though they've strapped an entire Dark Souls game onto Zelda Breath of the Wild, two of a small handful of games that arguably represent the highest expression of the artform.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 10:37 pmSome are calling this the greatest video game ever made.

Re: Elden Ring
Bloodborne is one of my favourite ever games, certainly the greatest From Software game by a long distance for me.
If Elden Ring meets the level of Bloodborne but is double/three times as long it will absolutely be in the conversation of ‘greatest ever’.

Re: Elden Ring
My impression of it so far is it’s a greatest hits of From. Elements of all their recent games in it.jedi_master wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 11:11 pmBloodborne is one of my favourite ever games, certainly the greatest From Software game by a long distance for me.

Re: Elden Ring
It supposedly mimics the gameplay pace of DS3 most closely, rather than Sekiro/Bloodborne's focus on aggression.
Re: Elden Ring
The best thing about Bloodborne was the subversion of the expectations established by its marketing and the early parts of the game, and I wish more games did that. SPOILER AHEAD!!! The way it went all-in on the Lovecraftian cosmic horror angle in the second half was just insane. You think you're in for 50 hours of Van Helsing then BAM! Amygdalas everywhere. Great Old Ones. And then Promethean allusions after Orphan of Kos. Just nuts. People who don't 'get' video games don't know what they're missing out on.

Bloodborne might be my favourite ever game. Although I love Sekiro and DS2
Re: Elden Ring
I’m strongly in the DS1 and DS3 camp so will undoubtedly be getting it. Currently on my 15th play through of DS3 and will probably need a week or two to finish…. But then will roll into Elden ring.

I gave up on video games when I couldn’t get past level 3 on ‘Ecco the Dolphin’

Re: Elden Ring
Really wanted to pick this up, looks visually stunning. I’ve heard it’s like DS which I found far too difficult, I just gave up with it in the end.
I’m currently playing the new Horizon game, much easier
