Don’t panic

Post by Milltown1882 » Tue Mar 01, 2022 9:36 pm

I’ve been Dyche’s biggest critic at the best of times (too harsh maybe) but tonight was one that just didn’t click. Mee’s injury, Cornet being 23 centimetres offside, these things happen.

Back on to it at the weekend with no fear. 18 points from 13 games needed regardless of what other teams do. Up the Clarets.

Wasn't the worst performance. Think we got out done by Rodgers he stooped us playing into weghorse. Doubled up on mcneil.

Taylor isn't fit for me.

Frustrating to watch but just not at it. 2-0 was harsh but hey Vardys a **** but an effective one that always does that.

a game too far for tired legs against a team that had the weekend off. I will say the decision to drop Cork was baffling (unless he was knackered)

No panic from me, I though we were down before Christmas so all points are a bonus now and I’ll enjoy it more if we stay up.

Still a great chance though

Our problem is to me our inability to retain the ball,we seem incapable of stringing 3 passes together.

No panic from, even though we were poor tonight we could still have nicked a point, and the amount of games is probably taking it's toil.

Tough game on Saturday, but after that 2 games where we can take points in Brentford and Southampton.

And at least we're back in the pack again, when only 10 days ago we looked dead and buried.

A position that can also be easily compromised as fast as the ground gained, we are where we are but by no means fixed.

A win against Brentford and thing look very different. Hopefully they continue to toss about with the ball at the back as they did at Turf Moor.

I am confident that if Leicester had played at the weekend like we did, it would have been a different game tonight. They were sharper throughout while our passing was miles off it and just looked tired.

Disappointing result as was hoping we could hang on for a draw.
Let's hope it's just the anticipated performance.
A one off after playing so many games recently?

And we can come back stronger but don't fancy our chances
against Chelsea.
But we're still in the mix even if we don't get anything on Saturday.

Not our night and looked a game too far after the past week against a good team. The three players who came in were all very below par. Go again Saturday!

2-0 wasn't harsh. It was fortunate, thanks to the heroics of Pope.

I thought we played well. Worse through the middle tonight and Cornet bit quite there but when he starts he makes the defence step back for his pace, allowing the midfielders more time on the ball. Perfect for a Cork type player to pick a pass. A few hiccups at the back, Pope made some outstanding saves. Taylor very good, Roberts good, long throw seems a waste of time though. Dwight had good spells but looked very frustrated at most parts. Definitely deserved a point maybe more great side on their day Leicester, Ndidi walks in to most sides, very very good player off the ball for recoveries

Foxes play leeds and brentford at home in the next three rounds.

Sean giving the league a masterclass by giving the foxes confidence.

Felt like a game too far tonight for us. I think we keep the ball much better when Cork plays and we have to try and find a way of getting the best out of Cornet, he looks lost playing upfront at times.

I thought Leicester pressed more aggressively than any other team I've seen against us this season ...they seemed massively up for it tonight. Looking at the quality they have in that squad you have to say they have underperformed massively this season.
Looked to me like Rodgers thought "this lot will be knackered given this their 4th game in 11 days" and really decided to turn up the pace.Pope kept us in it but, just when we seemed to have got a foothold, they bring on two subs of the quality of Maddison and Vardy and worst fears were then confirmed.

No need to panic because we were always still deep in the relegation battle (I still for one think we could well still drop). However what the previous week has given us is a fighting chance. Also tonight just highlighted our two biggest weaknesses (poor recruitment and lack of tactical flexibility) and they were always going to rear their head again at some point during a finely balanced game and or when we weren't fully at it.

When Cork plays we move the ball better, that's not a criticism of others.

I like Charlie, but I think we saw the difference Pieters makes at left back. Charlie hasn’t got his experience and know-how. He makes the left just so much more solid… he may have no chance of getting the ball, but he’s a bloody nuisance to anyone who can. I also think he probably coaches others through the game, and obviously he’s very highly regarded among the players.

But yes, we look a lot more balanced and exciting with Cork in midfield, but I’m sure SD has is reasoning. I think 6-4 we win games like that, tonight we looked inches off sharpness and the fresh quality just tipped us over the edge. Disappointed but not worried about not leaping up the table tonight, but we’re showing enough to remain reasonably confident.

Might be worth Cornet playing behind Weghorst, we need to be unpredictable the next few games, it is very obvious against good sides what we are going to do next in a game. I agree we missed Pieters' composure on the ball tonight.

Pieters was terrible on the ball against Palace and also Watford at home. Don’t think we missed that from left back to be fair. Mainly we were tired across the pitch compared to Leicester who pressed us really well for the majority of the game. Without Cork’s composure on the ball in the middle the defence had no one to pass to so ended up going long. This was never going to suit WW or MC who need the ball to feet.

To add to the above I think Taylor would have struggled with Olise too, do you think Taylor would have snuffed out his threat? he had an excellent game on the wing so I think your being disengenuous there calling Pieters out for bad passing. The way Olise was playing he would have given anyone a hard game, are you Taylors agent? :)

No don't panic because the old hoofball burnley are back . Two lucky wins an everyone forgets that our manager is incapable of producing consistent performances. We only beat teams who are having a massive off day (brighton and bentford) or who have an appalling run of luck (spurs).
We are down and will be lucky to stay in the championship if we stick with dino dyche.

Got to ask! Why do you support Burnley? You don’t seem to like the manager, the team, even though everyone gave 100% last night, you have no faith in the future of the club under this manager.
Last time we were in the championship we played some excellent exciting football under our manager. But we’ve moved up! We still have championship players, two maybe three would make the squad of a premiership team, none would make the first team( as proved by the last window) The manager has worked miracles with the players he has. You can blame the previous owners the present owners but never the manager.
Who would you like to be our manager? Do you think he would get better out of our group of players?
Why not support another team, there’s plenty within 30miles, more successful too.
If the way we have to play bothers you so much, change clubs. It’s dead easy tens of thousands moved away from our neighbours when they became crap

Blimey! one defeat and all the negativity is back in spades, we didn't play well last night, but we could still have claimed a point, and until Maddison and Vardy were brought into the fray that looked likely.

7 points out of Brighton, Spurs, Palace & Leicester, most sensible fans will be happy with that haul, put last night down as a bad night at the office and move on, plenty to play for yet this season.

And we're in far better shape than we were a fortnight ago which is the main thing.

Do you have evidence that suggests Dyche is unable to manage in the Championship? I'd have thought he had quite a good record there.

Best to ignore the poster known as brexit, they've seemingly got a bee in their bonnet about SD for some bizarre reason, and appear to think Marco Bielsa is the answer to all our problems, yes that's the guy who's just been punted by Leeds, and who's team can't defend for toffee.

Thought we played well on Tuesday but Leicester were the stronger team. I think the disallowed goal was the changing point. Knocked us back and picked them up. Cornet played his best game since returning from Africa but still needs to step up another level or two. I thought Jack Cork needed a rest and Ashley Westwood needs more time with Josh Brownhill thankfully maintaining his recent improved form despite being on the losing side this time. Will Wout be fit. Chelsea will be difficult but at least we’ve had 24 hours more recovery time.
