Pope 9 some world class saves tonight
Roberts 5 really struggled with Barnes
Tarks 7 I thought he was solid tonight
Mee 6 shame he got injured
Collins 6
Taylor 5 I thought he struggled tonight and we missed Pieters composure on the ball.
McNeil 7 created the best goal scoring chance (that cornet fluffed)
Westwood 4 really struggled
Brownhill 6 some good work but fundamentally he wasn’t as effective next to Westwood
Lennon 7
Weghorst 6 no service
Cornet 4 I’m not sure what’s up with Cornet but he looks a shadow of the player he was.

Pope 8 - Man of the Match - Kept us in it and didn't deserve to concede two.

Not a good game, I am afraid.

On the form of their recent performances for us (granted, both have had either Covid, injuries...or both) I wouldn't be starting Westwood or Cornet. We look a stronger team with Cork and Rodriguez in there at the moment.

Pope- 8 - MOM. Could've been 5 without him
Roberts - 5 - Struggled with Barnes. Need to knock that supposed long throw on the head, it's crap.
Taylor- 5 - Looked leggy coming back from injury
Tarks - 6 - Did OK, not as good when he had to switch to left side center half.
Mee - 6 - OK before he went off.
Lennon - 7 - Pick of the midfield
Westwood - 4 - Terrible. The constant hooking it forward kills us
Brownhill - 6 - Good energy again. Plays better with Cork.
McNeil - 6 - Couple of good bits and could've had a assist on another night.
Cornet - 4 - Miles away from it.
Weghorst - 5 - Nothing really to go on. Needs it into feet.

Collins - 5 - Did OK
Jay - 5 - At least gave us a platform to play with

A really poor performance. Schmeichel didn't have a save to make.

Cornet looks lost as a striker, Jay has done well last few games and should have started.

Centre midfield a worry again with Westwood back in it. Far too sloppy.

A big missed opportunity.

Pope - 9* - kept us in the game if we are honest

Roberta - 6 - stuck at it
Tarks - 7 - another good performance
Mee - 7 - hopefully nothing serious
Taylor - 6 - solid if not spectacular

Lennon - 8 - looked the most likely all night
Weatwood - 4 - the ball is like a hot potato at his feet
Brownhill - 7 - carries on his current form
McNeil - 6 - strange one - did ok but nothing seemed to come off for him tonight

Weghorst - 6 - a quite game but up front on his own for so long
Cornet - 3 - as rancid a performance as I’ve seen in a long time. Way off it since AFCON. How he lasted 70 minutes is beyond me

Collins - 6 - solid
Jay - 6 - movement and pressing miles ahead of Cornet

Looked flat performance for so much of the game - the pressing from the front of recent weeks simply wasn’t there. A very easy 3 points for the visitors if we are honest

Pope 9 ****
Roberts 5 - feel a bit sorry for him. Been up against a couple of very good players on top of their game the last couple of matches. He'll come back.r
Tarkowski 6
Mee 6 - really hope he's not going to be out long...
Taylor 5 - bit rusty. Be better when he gets Dwight buzzing.

Lennon 8 - put a shift in and more these last few weeks.
Brownhill 6 struggled on his own in the middle tonight.
Westwood 4 I'm a fan of Ash. But that wasn't good tonight.
McNeil 5

Weghorst 5
Cornet 5

Collins 6
Jay 6

We'd too many players looking jaded against a fresh side.
Disappointing night but, put it behind us and start again Saturday.
It's only Chelsea.

Westwood is a major problem. He plays too deep, he’s almost on top of Tarks and Mee and neither protects them or takes the ball off them to use it.

This in turn means the midfield is too far away from the forwards and it all becomes disjointed and kick and rush.

With Cork in we got the ball into WW feet and the rest of the team can step up and play off him. Brownhill gets involved more and this brings others into the game.

I’m hoping it was just a game too far for Cork and not Dyche thinking Westwood is the better option.

We carried too many players tonight who looked tired.
I think the team selection was wrong, Jay and Wout have struck up a decent understanding of late linking up for 3 goals, and feel it was harsh to drop him for Cornet who's been struggling since returning from ACON
Corney looked tired and never on the same page with Wout.

Hopefully just a case of 1 game too many, and we are back at it for Brentford ( yes im writing off the Chelsea game)

Looked really weak up top and a real lack of quality in the final 3rd. O-0 would have been a fair result and 2-0 flattered them but we wouldn’t have scored if we played all night. Very disappointing. Play like that against Chelsea and the goal difference could take a huge dent. A real struggle on our hands.

Pope 9* - 3 outstanding saves, didn't deserve to be on the losing team.
Roberts 5 - gave Barnes far too much space.
Tarkowsi 5 - one really sloppy mistake in the first half and some poor distribution tonight. Thought he should have done better when attacking a couple of corners also.
Mee 6 - was playing well, hope it's not serious.
Taylor 6 - thought he had a reasonable game overall.
Lennon 7 - another hard working performance and looked a threat.
Brownhill 7 - high energy and used the ball well again one pass to Cornet apart. The switch to Roberts in the second half was excellent.
Westwood 5 - a little frenetic in their today, not his best performance.
McNeil 6 - thought he had a poor first half but was much better in the second. Should have had a swing with his right in the second half.
Weghorst 6 - worked hard, showed some really nice touches bringing midfield in to play. Ndidi did a good job in nullifying him for the most part though and his understanding with Cornet wasn't really there.
Cornet 5 - didn't give us enough today I didn't feel. Poor concentration for the offsides and would have liked to see harder pressing off the ball.

Collins 6 - did fine.

We were really poor for the first 15- 20 minutes, giving the ball away sloppily far too often and were fortunate to go in level at half time, thankfully Pope was on form. We improved in the second half and perhaps Cornet, Weghorst and Tarkowski (corner he missed the header on) should all have done better with their chances. I don't think we can have too many complaints with the result though, the better team won and we will have to improve in order to stay up particularly with our retention of the ball.

I thought tonight highlighted two of the clubs biggest floors of recent times. Tactical inflexibility and poor recruitment. That was a game there for the taking but we couldn't do that and in the end their two subs won them the game.

Pope 8 MOM two outstanding saves
Roberts 5
Taylor 5
Tarks 5
Mee 6
Lennon 7
Brownhill 6
Westwood 5
McNeil 5
Wout 5
Cornet 5

Collins 5

A flat under performance. Not a million miles off but back to not looking like breaking teams down / capable of winning a game / lack of genuine quality.

Tarkowski - 5
Mee - 5
Taylor - 7
Lennon - 6
Brownhill - 6
Westwood - 5
Mcneil - 6
Cornet - 5
Weghorst - 6

Pope great saves, Roberts Lennon individually ok, link up poor. Tarkowski seemed off, strange decision to leave the ball for the Leicester chance. Mee should have come off earlier knowing he was injured. Taylor some very good defensive work, no link up going forward. Brownhill tried but wasted movement not receiving the ball. Westwood oesn't want the ball unless it's to push it forward into a channel even if nobody is there, frustrating. Mcneil showed some good signs but looked very frustrated, had soke great opportunities but limited options. Cornet, good runs, few offsides but the correct movements into the channels. Weghorst - doesn't stop moving but not enough opportunities tonight, unlucky.

Pope 8 3 great saves
Roberts 5 defensively suspect, just backs off too much.
Tarkowski 6 ok game
Mee 6 ok game but should have come off earlier
Lennon 8* kept his levels up despite being one of the older bodies, harried well and carried the ball well. Looked a danger.
Brownhill 7 maybe not quite as composed going forward today but he's now looking forward positively in passing and turning his body out and won a hell of a lot of challenges/interceptions in the centre.
Westwood 5 not at it today
McNeil 6 good in small glimours
Weghorst 6 again held it up relatively well but didn't have it in to feet enough.
Cornet 5 not at it today

Collins 6

Special mention to the ref who was shocking and appeared to want to give Leicester every 50-50 decision.

Roberts- 5 Needs to stop backing off, but good opponent.
Tarks- 6 Okay

Taylor- 6 Okay
Lennon- 7 Decent
Westwood- 5 Poor
Brownhill- 6.5 on current form our best midfielder
McNeil- 6 Some good and some bad- frustrating.
Weghorst- 6 Didn't play to his strengths
Cornet- 5 Looked poor today.

Collins- 6 Okay

I've been a big fan of Westwood for a long time and think he's done a great job but maybe he no longer fits in with our playing style which no longer (in theory) relies purely on the hooked ball over the top. Cornet doesn't look match fit either.
It was very harsh on Cork and J Rod to miss out today in my opinion.

Partly a function of a punishing schedule catching up with us, but also a consequence of team being picked which has been proven not to work particularly well.

Pope- 9 - three world class saves and another good one.

Roberts- 5 - unnecessarily rushed on occasions and struggled with Barnes.

Taylor - 6 - not bad but we missed the intelligence of Pieters.

Tarkowski- 8- one first half miscommunication aside pretty solid.

Mee - 7 - credit to him for soldiering on and let's hope it's not serious.

Brownhill- 7 - all over the park again but a bit hit and miss in possession again.

Westwood- 5- a couple of nice raking passes but never consistently able to provide the composed prompting we needed.

Lennon - 6 - threatened quite a bit and a lively presence, but didn't deliver as much as he should have from his opportunities.

McNeil - 7 - linked nicely with Weghorst and one lovely through ball to Cornet, and did fine on the flank even if it would have been nice to see him involved more.

Cornet - 5 - hes a very good player but a very average centre forward and it shows every time he plays there. Some nice touches and got into some decent positions but too often peripheral and unable to link play and give us a platform, or for that matter prevent Ndidi dictating terms in his defensive role.

Weghorst - 6 - more involved than Cornet and more good touches but we weren't able to get him enough ball to feet and he seems more effective when he has a partner who takes the physical pressure off.

Collins - 7 - solid enough but we missed Mee's organisation and I suspect that contributed to the first goal.

A frustrating night. Leicester had the benefit of 10 days to prepare for this whilst we were playing Spurs and Palace, and it showed from the off. They were a fraction sharper all over the pitch. But the truth was that this team is basically one that has tried before and failed before. If Cornet is up front with Weghorst, they need decent ball to feet, but thats not a strength of Westwood and Brownhill as a combination. In other words either Cork has to start, or Rodriguez has to start to provide a more physical platform alongside Weghorst, or both. The only alternative is to play McNeil as a 10, which Dyche appears reluctant to do.

After the last week it's not a disaster but this was a performance when some old failings were in evidence. It's up to the manager to ensure his thinking is sufficiently flexible to address them. Persistently playing Cornet as a centre forward seems frustratingly stubborn to me, as it did against Watford in a similarly frustrating performance. It's fine having some talented attacking players but you have to have a method to get the ball to them and too often tonight we didny.
